there is absolutely no social problem to which forcing women to be pregnant against their will is an acceptable response. that's the line sorry
um so quick question you do know that the world isnāt divided into People Blindly Accepting Of Gender Roles and Smart Trans Ppl. the world isnāt divided into People In Romantic Relationships and Single Aros. the world isnāt divided into People Who Socialize Easily and Oppressed Autistics. the world isnāt divided into Enlightened Queer People and Stupid Misogynists. like you are aware of this ? i hope you are aware of this
if you think about it the porn ban was like a boulder falling into a narrow tidal inlet and closing off everything inside it, letting strange new things emerge over time
Digital circus' biggest problem is that it was written to be a niche show aimed at weird analytical queers with actual media literacy and it accidentally blew tf up and hit the mainstream and a bunch of people who have never had a second thought about anything got into it
Why does everyone think fiction is just fantasy wish fulfillment now and not like an exploration of themes and ideas
People will be like āthis movie is evil and gross because it depicts a predatory relationshipā and then you watch the movie in question and itās about how preying on young women is bad and impacts their lives negatively
āWhy would they do this instead of just making everyone in the movie nice and normal and goodā so we would have this conversationā¦.
Gonna be honest a lot of people deep down view cheating as worse than abuse which is why so many people view downright controlling and manipulative behavior in a relationship as 100% permissible so long as that behavior is centered around either preventing or discovering cheating.
obviously thereās nothing morally wrong with the projectionist lens through which a large portion of fandom operates but it does get kind of tiring to constantly feel like. hey guys what if we stopped talking about ourselves and instead talked about the character
Tumblr shows that the best way to get queer people to like your show is to not put any explicitly queer people in it. So long as nothing is canon, they will 'Candle Cove' up a whole entire show with EXCELLENT queer representation out of nothing. If you put actual canon queer representation into it, you'll get ripped to shreds for being problematic about it.
Donāt you mean āGoncharov up an entire showā
I think the difference is that Candle Coving is unintentional and born of collective delusion, while Goncharoving is intentional and born of improv.
This exactly. Candle Coving is when you believe it actually existed.

Reposting these two. They're very good dogs.

oh my god i just saw her get onto an airship with a woman whose tophat has at least twice as many sprockets as mine. i will be killing myself with an elaborate pneumatic pistol tonight
the way people talk about content creators on the internet is insane. "you should do tons of work to give me free entertainment at your expense and if i don't like it i will treat you like garbage" - a bizarrely large amount of people
i just want to be clear, this is not about piracy or anything like that. this is about people harassing content creators for making things they don't like. creators do not owe you anything unless you have paid them. if you don't like their content then simply do not consume it instead of demanding that they cater the free entertainment they are providing you with to you, someone who is not providing them with anything in return
It feels like a lot of discourse around things like birth rates begins by assuming that there are certain things that are politically impossible to do (e.g. changes to the way entitlements work and operate, such that lower birth rates will eventually make them impossible to sustain). And because they're politically impossible to do, and because we are mostly not very good at imagining the future, when we talk about how things are going to be 30-50 years from now we have to build our projected solutions around those immovable objects.
It seems to me like creating those systems in the first place was also politically impossible at one point, until events like the Great Depression/World War II changed the conversation (along with previous things like the creation of a federal income tax that people a decade or two before it was implemented would likely have scoffed at). Obviously I hope it doesn't require something like a second Great Depression to force e.g. some form of UBI on us but we do tend to be stubborn like that.
Idk, maybe it's just my reflexive anti-doomerism but I think we're going to be fine. In 50 years when I'm 80 we'll probably be fine in ways I wouldn't have anticipated now, and instead we'll have a whole new set of crushing existential problems to be anxious about that my charming personal robot Mecha-Kurapika will kindly reassure me will surely be solved in the twenty-second century. One thing I am pretty sure about is that we'll always have problems that we think are insurmountable!
My opinion on the "birthrate crisis" is that it's a problem that almost certainly solves itself. In the long term we raise retirement ages as helathspan increases and have higher productivity to make up for a worse worker/pensioner ratio. In the medium term you can get new adult workers you don't need to pay to raise via "immigration".
What if my country doesn't want to let in foriegners
Then your old people have a revealed preference to live in squalor and misery till they die over seeing a brown person, I guess. Seems like a bad trade but w/e
