I am a silly human. I sing...songs. I write...things. I nerd out about...stuff.

assuming I don't lose interest in like a week, I'm probably gonna use this blog for a few things:

sharing little snippets of songs I write

talking about story/fandom tropes

posting random thoughts that fill my brain

so yeah! that's me! and now, for the obligatory self promo shun...

I post my music mainly on youtube, and have a second channel for more fun stuff I get the impulse to make. both can be found on my linktree, depending on the season!

HAPPY PRIDE TO THE ACES, AROS, AND AROACES!

I come bearing a song that I hope some of you can see yourselves in :) it's about my experience being (aro)ace!

I enjoy the concept of romance, and I like writing stories and music exploring different kinds of love, but I don't desire a romantic relationship for myself, and anything sexual is just completely off the table. even so, I don't want to go through life alone, watching all of my friends slowly drift away in favor of a "better" love than friendship lends them. yet, I don't want the kind of relationship most people want. I want a secret third thing, that few people outside of this spectrum can truly understand. and indeed, all my life, I've been the type to say such things as "I'm just gonna marry my best friend" or "I don't want a relationship, I just want a bestie who's my roommate", and that hasn't really changed.

one of the most special things about this community, to me, is how even though we're all surrounded by this push to be something we're not, here we're able to take comfort in the fact that we are just as valid as anyone else. though our experience may not be universal to all, it's a very real one, and so I hope this post finds exactly who it's meant for.

on rivals and lovers

a bit ago, I saw a youtuber reacting to heated rivalry (a show that I am too afraid to watch for myself), and it got me thinking about the "rivals to lovers" trope in general.

it's a very interesting concept!

you have two people who hate each other, and that hatred is tied in with them giving each other...more attention than they would anyone else. they feel challenged, because they see in their rival a person they'd like to be, and they find themselves wanting to know more. who is this person, what is it about them that's so attention-stealing? their rival could only make them feel inadequate if they believe in some way that this opponent is greater than them, after all.

but alas, they must shun this curious draw, as they cannot betray their values and become close with their rival... no, it would be so unbecoming of them...

if I were to write a version of the "rivals to lovers" story (not that I'm a fanfic writer though cough cough no definitely not what who even suggested that), I think it'd even be interesting to make them friends by the end of it, rather than lovers. they'd be drawn to each other for awhile, they'd eventually talk it out, and they'd realize, that "attraction" they had to each other was just mutual insecurity, and from that they'd go, hey what if we just kept hanging out and helped each other grow from this? I think that's much more wholesome... (granted, I have a bias towards dynamics mirroring QPRs!)

anyway, all of that thought led me to make a song about the trope. unlike my last paragraph, this can be interpreted in any way you'd like... you can check it out here if you're interested!
