The reason Azulaang works is because if Aang ever tried to pull the 'you killed me' card Azula would simply threaten to do it again

Well, in the post-ATLA series content, they aren't even allowed to be that. The forgettable abomination known as Kiyi is written in the picture and is used as a blatant Azula replacement. They don't even allow Katara to show up at her own granddaughter's airbender ceremony thing because Zuko happens to be there.

They know that the chemistry Zuko and Katara had with each other in just a few episodes far dominates over anything Aang and Katara ever had throughout the whole series. That's gotta be both embarrassing and infuriating to Bryke.

Also, since Katara and Azula foil each other, and there's been talk about an Azula redemption, which already makes the whole "Katara-as-a-replacing-surrogate-sister-thing" practically impossible to pull off, does that mean, once Zutara becomes romantically endgame, a twist reveals that Azula is actually Aang's true love?

In my ideal world, if azulaang is a thing, so is zutara. Not only because I love both pairings, but because it would be comedic.

Aang and Katara are undoubtedly the confident, flirty ones of their relationship. They would bond over bagging two royal awkward losers lol.

Meanwhile, Zuko and Azula are the ones constantly blushing, flustered and complaining about their partners' "dirty tricks".
