I think one of the biggest lies modern day feminism tries to sell to women is that if you don’t like being feminine, you’ve internalized misogyny. That has to be one of the most twisted claims to brainwash and guilt trip women into traditional and patriarchal beauty standards.
Misogyny means hating women, not femininity. Misogynists LOVE femininity. They even use it as a weapon against women by hating women who don’t shave, don’t wear pink, don’t have long hair and even committing hate crimes against them. Society ONLY promotes feminine women.
They don’t love women for their womanhood, but for their performance of femininity. If you equate not liking femininity to internalized misogyny, that means you equate women=femininity, which is sexist. Women are not defined by how well they conform to restrictive gender stereotypes. Women just exist as women and that’s enough. Also, femininity can be performed by men too so how is not liking the social construct of femininity= hating women?
So in order to be a “true feminist” you have to wax your body, wear makeup, revealing clothes, have long hair and maybe even get plastic surgery! Otherwise, why do you hate femininity (and in their minds, women)? 🙄 This is what happens when movements try to accommodate everybody and become a trend. They lose their essence and turn into the exact opposite of what they were meant to be (women’s liberation from gender stereotypes and gender roles)
