Virginity is based around the hymen that’s supposed to break when first penetrated, which is absolute bullshit. The hymen doesn’t break permanently; it can stretch and rip at parts but it heals again. It can rip while doing every day activities or while working out. It’s not supposed to bleed, especially not during intercourse. If she bleeds the first time she has intercourse, she isn’t aroused enough. If she bleeds every time she has intercourse, she isn’t aroused enough and you should think about why and how to change that (communication is key!).

Virginity is a social construct made to empower men. Men get praised for fucking as many women as possible, but women get shamed bc virginity is holy, and inexperience is fetishised. So instead of saying, “I lost my virginity” let’s use “I had my sexual debut” bc that’s a lot funnier and doesn’t imply that anything is lost because, frankly, no one lost anything.

So there’s this artist, Alex Schaefer, who makes a bunch of paintings of Chase Bank burning.

This is a "plein air" painting which means I set up my easel right across the street of this Chase bank in my city and painted it like it had caught fire. The police questioned me on the spot. Three weeks later Homeland Security was knocking on the door to my home. The question they kept asking me was "Do you hate these banks?" I can honestly say yes.

And I just think this is the greatest artist statement I’ve ever read.

When you go back out into this world after your isolation and you witness a customer being vile and abusive to an employee, please step in and say something.

You have real power as a fellow customer, and it means a lot to those of us who are getting relentlessly hammered all day long to not feel all alone in that moment.

And please don't say you do, because I've been in retail for over 10 years and no one ever steps in. Ever. It doesn't mean shit when you're extra nice to the cashier after the person in front of you was horrible.

If no one could protect our lives, please for the love of God, protect our hearts.

This is an excellent call out, people assume retail employees are the “authority” in this situation, and they’re not. They can’t say what you can say as another customer.

I learned a few tactics in bystander training this weekend, they work in this scenario, but even more importantly in any kind of public harassment. A few tips:

1. Your safety is important. If you’re someone who is also an oppressed person, you may not always be comfortable speaking up, but there are other things you can do.

2. Think of the 5 D’s: distract, delegate, document, delay, and direct.

3. Distract the person harassing, this can be something as simple as asking the person being harassed a question, like for directions or give them a compliment. You can even drop your drink (don’t do this in a retail store please) or start dancing/singing. Make eye contact with the person being harassed, give that “do you need help” look, and step in if they do!

4. Document: record the interaction or take notes of the interaction. Then ask the person being attacked if they would like the video. That video belongs to the person who is harassed, not you. Don’t ever post it online or give to authorities without the harassed person’s permission.

5. Direct is my favorite, say to the person harassing “I understand you are upset, but they deserve to be treated with respect.” Or “They look uncomfortable, why don’t you leave them alone?” Your job doesn’t need to be to punish or educate the person, your job is to help the person being harassed.

According to a report from the HuffPost, Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump has been helping funnel donations made to a Florida dog rescue organization into the family's pockets with pricey fundraisers at the family's Mar-a-Lago resort.

The report states, “A dog rescue charity with links to Lara Trump has spent as much as $1.9 million at former President Donald Trump’s properties over the last seven years and will drop an additional quarter-million at his Mar-a-Lago country club this weekend,” before adding, “According to a permit filed with the town of Palm Beach, Florida, Big Dog Ranch Rescue estimates it will spend $225,000 at the club where Donald Trump has taken up full-time residence since leaving the White House. All the profit from that spending winds up in his pocket.”

The report goes on to note the IRS shows the group has spent as much as $1,883,160 on fundraising costs at Mar-a-Lago and that “Lara Trump, the wife of Eric Trump, started being listed as a chairwoman for charity events in 2018.”
