Finally found some beans to put back into writing, here are the patterns/themes I enjoy, stay tuned if they're your thing:

The inner child. Almost all of my OCs at some point encounter or confront their inner child or a ghost of their former self. Sometimes this is cathartic, sometimes its horrifying.

I take women with daddy/mommy issues and give them swords.

A dance scene - this wasn't even intentional, but so far dancing with ghosts/the dead/in silence with someone you've just fought with has become a trademark.

Nosebleeds.

Reality slipping - flashbacks/dreams/nightmares have very blurred edges. Dreams are memories are nightmares are reality.

Fantasy elements/the supernatural as allegories for mental health issues.

GRIEF.

My OCs are almost always women who are direct, blunt, and to the point. They can be funny and efficient, but this also means they're kind of assholes. The literal thinker in me doesn't like writing long-winded talkers or people who beat around the bush in conversation (they do in other ways).

These characters thus often get called out on their bullshit.

Nuanced, flawed, angry, twisted, unsavoury women.

Non-descript OCs. I tend not to go into too much detail over what these characters look like and invite my readers to fill in their own blanks or self-insert where they feel related to.

Women who are not unattractive but who may have small tits, boyish hairstyles, wonky teeth/gammy eyes/unsightly scars, narrow hips, athletic builds, androgynous names/clothing styles, calloused hands, etc.

Weird relationships with death, usually.

I'm not mad into romance/smut/love stories, but do enjoy gender dynamics and atypical/platonic friendships and complicated family relationships. A la Miyazaki, my female leads will usually find a non-romantic friend (or sometimes vaguely romantic) partner to join them on their journey, but who does not fix them or change them.

Themes that usually necessitate a Dead Dove tag.

Fair amount of whump and blorbo-ing; hurt/comfort with emphasis on the hurt.

writing woes #5 or smthn ~

You cannot FATHOM the anger that courses through my very being when I see this pop up while writing.

This is my OC, Fumble’mask! She is a dog, a Snorkie specially (it’s a type of mixed breed). She has a TEP in her throat to help her breathe and speak. She used to be a devout singer, but now sadly cannot sing anymore. Very warm, smiles during the toughest of times, loves making jokes. In-game she has like a BAJILLION CHILDREN and in my story she’s both a biological and a foster mom. In-game, she’s also the deputy. She attacks at least one dog every MOON and has saved her clanmates CONSTANTLY without dying or getting scars somehow, with her neck scar being from a car accident, and her tail being torn up from constant itching and stress and (partly) the car accident.

After planning all my story beforehand and having now written about a third part of it, I'm worried that the full work is going to be about a billion words long.

I try to not over explain everything but, man, Tolkien was so right: describing the landscape is one of the greatest pleasures of my life.
