Моя удача 🍀 — удачно прилетевшая критованная ракета 🎖️
A time ago I was discussing with my wife about how wrong the KGB uniforms were in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War.
I'll do a small transcription of what we said.
Me: Did you noticed how wrong these uniforms are? They're so bad that made me almost impossible enjoy that stupid mission.
Her: Yeah, I know! The shoulder pads in their uniform are from the NKVD times and in 1981 only used in the army, not in that type or organisation.
Me: I know! The inscription is also wrong. It should say "ГБ". Alloydia the other day told me when I drew the pads wrong.
Me: The colour of the uniform is also wrong. Why it is red? The KGB uniforms are supposed to be blue. Like, that's literally the most obvious way to difference them with the MVD uniforms. Literally the red was only used by the MVD and the Red Army, not the KGB. Their uniforms are similar, but the difference lies in the colour and the patches on its sleeves. It's the same with the Border Troops who uniform is the same, but theirs are green.
Her: And the hat! Their hats are literally tsarit ones, not soviet. Even the pin in the hat is wrong. It literally look like the one from the White Army.
Me: I also noticed that in Adler's uniform, the petlitsy (ruff patches) is in the wrong direction. The tips should go in, not out. Omg, this uniform is so bad that make me want to cry.
This conversation made me think of what else their uniforms had wrong.
Let's start with the pads. The NKVD, the KGB's predecessor, used them until its dissolution, but the KGB did not use them. They used ones with the inscription "ГБ" in them instead. In the army we could sometimes find the patches with the stars, since they are used to differentiate ranks.
ГБ it is an abbreviation for Государственной Безопасности (State Security).
Left to right. KGB, MVD.
We can notice how different they were based on the colour. Another difference between the KGB and the MVD uniforms were that the inside shirt were of different colours. The MVD jacket, instead of being green like the KGB's, was more bluish-gray. As I said, the only ones who used red in their uniforms were the MVD and the Red Army, while the KGB used blue.
And the strap, belt and gun holder that Adler's model has no sense at all. I'm serious, I haven't found a single photo of a KGB agent wearing any of that, and less in the headquarters. All of that should be handled by an MVD agent, not a KGB agent. Do people seriously don't know what most of the KGB agents worked on back in 1980s? Why would they even needed a gun inside the headquarters working with papers and computers? They weren't troops.
Another thing that I do not like of the models of the uniforms in the games is that they don't have the patch of the KGB in the sleeve. These uniforms usually have a patch in their left sleeve showing the shield of their organisation.
Also, didn't they steal their uniforms from some young looking people? Why the uniform doesn't have a pin of the ВЛКСМ? Lol. Most of the KGB agents in that place look really young. Like a 60% of the young people in the USSR in 1980s were part of the Komsomol. Mostly if they worked for the government they should have a pin of the ВЛКСМ in their left side. The Komsomol were really useful for the youth, especially on the subject of housing.
And the hats. Omg these ugly ass hats. Can someone please explain me what the fuck is that?
I can't really find a good example of a White Army hat, but try to find any photography of Kolchak and you will see how similar the models hat look to that instead of the real soviet hats. The sides of the White Army hats are as if they are drooping downwards, while the Soviets are completely straight. In this example you can see how the pin in the hat look more similar to the White Army one instead of what a real KGB one should look like.
And the other fucking models. Why are they wearing a full military gear who look too old to be from 1981? Are we forgetting they're in a building in middle of Moscow? Also all the things they're wearing look more to something the Red Army would wear back in WW2. First the hat. Why the fuck is he wearing a pilotka. They aren't in 1941. The KGB was not an army, but a intelligence organisation. The pilotka is only used in the army. The same with the helmet. Also in 1981 had way better helmets than that.
These are images of uniforms of the Red Army in the 1980s, NOT THE KGB.
I'm losing my mind. No agent inside the headquarters of the KGB were wearing any of these, only troops who were not even worked in there. The headquarters were for paperwork. Lots of paperwork.
Also do you guys ever saw what the female Bell wore in this mission? Is so ugly, I can't do this anymore.
Bro what is this..............? Female KGB agents wore the same as the male agents; jacket, shirt, tie, boots, but instead of trousers, they wore some kind of pencil skirt. Literally the only difference was the skirt, not whatever that thing is.
And I'll refrain myself to talk about the building in the game, because if I do, I'll lose my mind even more.
Why the fuck they made it look so luxurious and wrong in the game? Seriously, it's not even that hard to find photos or videos of how the building looked inside. Wow, they really tried so hard to make the soviets look bad by lying. What American thing to do.
As a last thing, what my wife and I think about this:
Her: This piss me off so bad that make me want to join Activision to fix all these things, but I'll probably regret it because I would rather die than help to make American propaganda videogames.
Me: I think it's better to not work for Activision. Probably the devs are like "those people" and I resent the US too much. I hate private companies too much. What would Lenin think about this?
Her: Probably that we should shot everyone.
LOUDER, DUMN IT!!!
It's not so hard to find some pictures in Google to find smt close to make correct female uniform from 80s
