God damn my brain is fucked up beyond belief
Now I'm thinking Call of Duty fanfic where these guys raid some shady facility that's researching and experimenting on "ghosts". And from what info they could get they know that they must find and secure their highest priority captive.
Turns out it was this 8 y/o looking menace to society
Even funnier if she's unconscious by the time they find her and being a ghost she doesn't have a pulse so they assume she's dead. But just leaving the body there doesn't feel right because they at least must identify her and let her family know. Everyone is overridden with guilt over failing to protect a single child from those psychos. Cue next night on the base where they see a pair of eerie glowing eyes in the dark
^ kinda like this
Dani: "Hey, do you know where the kitchen is? I wanted to get a glass of water"
