Royal Masquerade, daughter of the Ambassador (somehow): Royal’s the school’s resistant mean girl, who’s as egotistical as their parent. They have a soft spot for their childhood friend Wobble. Uses she/they

Wobble Bobbleton, daughter of Bobble the Clown: Royal’s more reluctant second in command, who does most of the dirty work and isn’t gloomy about it (she’s just gloomy in the first place). Uses she/her

Scorchpia Embers, daughter of the Burning Man: the third of Royal’s trio who’s mostly just in this so she can insult more people. She never runs out of energy and over-the-top schemes. Uses she/her.

Daydream, daughter of the Dream Man: a big fan of fairytale stories and happy endings, Daydream is a sweet soul who just wants to help her friends, even when they don’t know how. Uses she/they

Zohar Bumero, child of Robert Bumero. A rocking soul and lead singer of their band “Golden Rust”, Zohar wants to make a difference in this world, preferably one that fixes it. Uses they/them.

Scabina Sick, daughter of Grand Karsist Ion. Resourceful and honest, Scabina is a significantly nicer person than her name implies, though his sense of humor is a little dark. Uses she/he.

Yulia Kaust, daughter of the Yule Man. A cold girl, Yulia has trouble trusting others due to how monstrous her father is, and wishes to stop the darkness of the world she lives in. Uses she/her.

Molly Lochet, daughter of Moloch. A prankster at heart, Molly doesn’t entirely understand what her classmates are cool with, but is genuinely trying to get better with her pranks. Uses she/her.

Beauty P., the daughter of a beautiful person. Beauty is someone who believes she must be perfect in the eyes of all, but doesn’t quite know how to get along with her peers. Uses she/they.

Ursae Night, child of the night. Sweet and a little odd, Ursae is just a big softie. He collects rocks, but hasn’t found a heartshape one yet (though he really wants to give his GF Rosé one). Uses he/him.

Pox Spittings, son of Vector. Unlike the above, his name actually accurately describes his personality. He’s loud and immature with an ego to rival anyone else here. Uses he/him

Namseong-Yeou, son of the polymorphic humanoid. While more socially aware and quiet, he’s somehow Pox’s best friend. He still is growing tired of Pox’s (and everyone else’s) garbage-ness. Uses he/him.

Emerald Shaw, Elijah Shaw’s distant cousin. Emerald is… something not quite human, but is genuinely as nice as she seems. She’s just as unsure of her identity as you dw. Uses she/they.

Commandra Warren, born of the demon of war, a sporty girl who loves stirring up conflict (because she has to), scary movies, and herself. Uses she/her but doesn’t mind if you use a different pronoun to refer to her.

Ooky Spooky, child of Too Spooky, self proclaimed Halloween spirit who only consumes Halloween related content. She loves scaring people and being mildly unsettling. Uses any pronouns

Endgeline Crucible, daughter of the welt in the crucible. A creative (but introverted) practicing coder. Rebellious, and while she wouldn’t start a fight, she’d finish one. Uses she/her.

I’m Farah, a young woman from Gaza living through unimaginable suffering. The war has brought famine, disease, soaring prices, and constant danger. We’ve been displaced multiple times, our home is damaged, and basic needs like clean water, electricity, and medical care are nearly impossible to find.

I was a medical student, but the war stole my education and dreams. I come from a family of seven, and while two of my brothers study abroad, I remain here, struggling to survive.

Connie’s Basic Diary:

August 30th

So uh, my roommate, Lavande (apparently it is the French word for Lavender?) said I might like to keep a diary, so I got one. It just showed up, with my name on it. It is kinda peculiar, but, whatever.

So my name is Connie D. Tainer, my middle name is personal information. I am 15 years old. I’ve been homeschooled my whole life until recently. Actually, I have not really left the house until recently. My parents said it was for the best if I just stayed home, so I have not really had any friends until, again, recently. My dad would stay here to teach me, and my mom would go to her lab. I knew she was a scientist, but I did not know much else until, once again, recently.

So earlier this month, my parents got a letter saying I had been chosen to go somewhere called Anomaly High? And my mom revealed that she worked at a Foundation that contained such… anomalies. They said I was a normal girl though. They also explained the People Room, oh, I forgot to mention the People Room!

So, there is a big room back home with a bunch of pictures of people I have never met before. They would add another picture at least once every other week. They were my friends, I would talk to them, and they would… continue to be inanimate objects. My best friend was there before I was born, it was this old white guy. What set him apart from the other old white guys was that he had heterochromia, one brown eye, one green eye. I loved that.

So it turns out that the room was to honor dead coworkers. Yeah. Surprised I did not ask until then. That kinda… reinvents my entire life.

Back on topic, they said I could go as long as I routinely wrote back letters describing what it was like. I would be an agent discovering this new anomaly. I was just excited to finally leave the house, but I was also excited to be an agent. I was excited to be something other than this one autistic girl that barely anyone knows exists.

I woke up there the next day, met Lavande, and yeah that is my life so far. Kinda boring.

September 1st.

I have come to realize that “Anomaly High” is a more fitting name than I thought. I am not a fool, I knew no one would be normal (Lav couldn’t exactly pass for human) nothing could prepare you for actually going to a school and knowing no one there is normal. No one except you, of course. I could not figure out for the life of me why I was there when, after asking around, I determined that everyone else in my dormitory (there are multiple dormitories where about six students stay, three dorms, each with two students, that’s how it works) was,

Lavande Merle: An artificial humanoid. She’s white, like, literally. Black sclera too, and yellow eyes. Apparently she is about 49% whatever her dad is, 49% human, and 2% other stuff to balance it out. Whatever that means. She doesn’t know where the human DNA came from however, since “he died before (she) was created”. … That’s not… great, but eh, you don’t pick how you’re born.

Oozelle Manson: Girl looks like a walking corpse covered in black goop. She got offended when I called her a zombie though. I do not… actually know what she is. I do not think she trusts me. Really should not have called her a zombie.

Aviya El Asem: She looks the most human, but she’s covered in these red markings, and her eyes? Equally red. She said she wanted to show me a cool party trick and then summoned a red knife. She then stabbed the palm of her hand, which then reformed when she took the knife out. I am worried she got some weird infection but she said that was silly. She has a pig.

Scalett Reptile: Exactly what you’re thinking, minus the fact she is not red. Tall and technically humanoid, however, so there is that. Lav got weird vibes from her. Wish I could say more but she did not want to talk.

Rosé Copperhead: Fae. With butterfly wings and stuff, specifically a pink rose butterfly to my knowledge. Insistent she got her name ethically. Good for her, I guess??? Do not really have much else to add.

Gosh, I stick out like a sore thumb. Why am I here? I am nothing special.

September 2nd

Oozelle bit me. She bit my freaking arm and I had to go to the nurse. Oozelle was really apologetic and swore I was not gonna get rabies or something, but she still freaking bit me!!

Nurse… Nurse, that is literally her name, managed to patch me up. Oozelle explained that her species can… only properly eat human flesh. Great. Apparently this school (and her home dimension, because apparently she is from another freaking dimension) have these plates that can turn normal meat into human flesh, so she does not kill people, luckily. Apparently she was anxious about track and forgot to eat, but like, gosh, my arm hurts so bad oh my gosh.

I’m just worried that I am not as upset as I should be over this. I do not know, at least it was not my dominant arm, or something?

September 3rd

It is becoming more clear to me that I, as a human, am the minority in this school. Some boy named Forrest dragged this weird demon girl, Molly, to me telling her to apologize about something. Apparently he’s also human (though he knows magic) and Molly asked if humans like salt in their wounds “in a funny prank way” because she heard the phrase, and thought it might be a fun prank to put salt in my arm wound.

At least she asked, I guess? Better than her actually doing it, no questions asked. Gosh, I have grown way too numb to this crap,

Anyways, Forrest knows magic, huh? I have an idea on how to fit in with the other students. I am going to ask him to teach me all that he knows.

September 4th.

He said no. Apparently he is not true if I can be trusted, and while he does know magic, he does not know how to teach it, and it was this whole thing that I do not wish to get into. No one here is willing to help me fit in. I am truly alone here.

But I am more alone at home. Here, I have Lavande, she is a wonderful friend. But is our connection true? What if it is all a lie? What am I supposed to do? I am in a madhouse and I cannot for the life of me figure out what got me here! I just want to belong, why can I not have that? What did I do?

September 4th (continued)

Hello Connie! I saw you writing in here while crying and I know it’s rude to read someone else’s diary but this felt like a good exception since you refused to talk to me about it, and I really want to help you. If I can’t fix Ray-Ray, at least I can fix you, maybe? Please don’t be mad at me, I won’t do it again if you don’t want me to.

You do belong here. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have some special ability or aren’t some sort of creature or whatever. You belong here because you’re my best friend, and I would never have met you if you weren’t here. That alone is enough. And besides, maybe you’re just like a late bloomer, or something! You might sprout a tail tomorrow! Seriously though, you do belong here, no matter what happens. You can talk with me if you ever doubt that so I don’t have to read your diary again. And if you want, I can share a super personal secret with you, you know, so it evens out.

September 5th

Lavande, if you are reading this, stop. I appreciate your intervention yesterday and all that, but you do not need to do that again, ok? Seriously though, thank you. Now stop unless it is an emergency or something.

Anyways, I talked about it with Lavande, and she was super understanding??? She said she cared. Honestly, it just felt good to talk about it with someone. I really won the roommate lottery, huh?

…Anyways, she did share something personal, and I’m just gonna write it down here (with their permission). They told me about their human DNA donor.

Apparently back in the late 2010s, before I was born, her father had been kept at the same facility my parents worked at. I would say small world, but eh, context clues would have told me that anyway. Apparently her “human dad” as she calls him, was the only person they got along with there. But unfortunately, one day, her father was forced to kill him. She did not elaborate on why. Anyways, her father later escaped (she would not tell me how) and has been in hiding ever since. They created Lavande, using some of the doctor's DNA (she would not tell me why they had it) as a tribute. She did not know his name, but she did have a picture (they would not tell me where it was from). Now, here is where it gets… concerning. Lavande, if you are reading this, please stop, you are better off not knowing the following information. It would affect our bond, despite not involving either of our personal actions.

I wasn’t all that happy with Aviya and Rosé’s og designs and I thought they looked weird (especially Aviya’s old belt) so it’s redesign time baby!

These designs are a lot more aesthetically cohesive, and are a lot closer to what I originally had in mind.

I haven’t talked about them in a while so here’s some fun facts about the Anomaly High cast:

Despite everything, Lavande doesn’t believe in ghosts.

Oozelle bit Connie once but they’re fine now

Aviya only drinks energy drinks. She subsides on Mountain Dew

The reason Scalett’s humanoid is because she only saw various Foundation scientists growing up and just. Grew that way in an attempt to fit in since they barely ever talked to her.

Lav was created with immunity to Every Disease

Rosé hasn’t tried to bring any other fae out of their nameless home because she’s afraid she’s get stuck back there in the process. She really doesn’t want to go back there.

Royal and Wobble reacted so negatively to Lav because, from Royal’s perspective, there was something very, very wrong with her. Lav was uncanny in her eyes. Wobble just trusts Royal more than anyone.

Ooky hates Christmas, especially when people are celebrating it in November. She is neutral to every other non-Halloween holiday mostly.

Scalett isn’t actually aware of the Scarlet King’s existence and would not believe you if you tried to tell her.

Connie’s favorite music genre is Mental Breakdown Music. Whatever “Brave as a Noun” has going on to be specific.

Not sure if I want to canonize this one, but in one tale, there’s a bunch of children pattern screamers in Alagadda. 6930 also establishes that with enough time and willingness Pattern Screamers can take on a non-painful form of existence. What I’m trying to say is that I think I found an explanation for Royal’s existence.

So the way you get accepted as a student is that The Headmistress finds you, decides you belong among the student body, and hides an acceptance somewhere in your room, in a place where you Will find it but no one else will. If you don’t want to go, you’ll wake up the next morning, the letter will be gone, and the memory of the letter will go with it, no matter how many people you told. If you accept it you just wake up there the next day.

Crap, the track team’s first practice is in two weeks. Ya want me to wait that long!? The entire point is to go fast and ya want me to wait!? Heck, the skateboard club’s first meeting is in one week, according to Aviya! It’s not fair, not fair, not fair! What am I supposed to do in all that time, study??? Learn yoga??? Steal a book of puns??? Audition for a different sport- wait. That one’s actually a good idea! Thanks diary, ya are really cool!

September 2nd.

Nevermind, that was a bad idea. Thanks a lot, diary >:(! Apparently, ya can only be in one sport, for time reasons. They changed it from last year, since ya know, back then ya could be in two sports. This one girl, Commandra or whatever, told me. She had to drop one of her sports (basketball). She also said I probably shouldn’t be on the track team anyway???

“It’s not fair to anyone else, you can teleport!”

Which… no? This doesn’t affect my ability to run track at all???

Ok, first of all, I can’t teleport, I can walk through walls. There’s a difference. Second of all, I run through walls the same way I run through air! This doesn’t change anything, let alone speed. There aren’t any walls, and that’s cheating. I’m a track star, fair and square. She’s probably just joining the track team, and is afraid of me.

But hey, I found a reason to wait and stay on the track team, driving Commandra crazy!

September 15th.

Track team meeting was… almost good. Turns out Commandra lied. Ya can still have two sports, and she dropped basketball to join track. Never should’ve trusted a demon. But eh, she plays fair. And good. Gotta give her that.

Oh, also: I noticed that the gym’s ceiling isn’t made of glass anymore. Can’t tell what it’s made of now, but it’s painted to look like the sky. Health concerns, apparently. That made me realize, there’s no windows in here. Now, I know this school’s a pocket dimension and all that, but there’s gotta be some kind of outside. That’s how we entered. And again, the ceiling was made of glass, at first. There was a sky. Clouds moved. It rained and snowed and all that jazz.

I’m gonna go try to see the outside, just a little. Got nothin better to do.

September 15th (continued).

There’s a lot more hallways in here than I thought. I’ve just been walking through hallways, looking into empty classrooms. I think I’m lost.

But hey, I know there’s an exit around here somewhere. I got in. I left in the summer, and then I came back.

Trying to avoid walking through a wall, cuz like, Imma not supposed to do that. I don’t wanna get in trouble over this. Marked a door though, painted a little goop heart. They wouldn’t get mad over a goop heart, it’s not in their hearts to do that! Get it, get it?

I’ve passed the goop heart like three times, and I never went in the same direction. Not once, I swear. There’s no other direction to go. Am I trapped? Should I even try going back, like, would that even work? What kinda school is this? …Screw it, I’m going back.

Four times. I passed the goop heart trying to go back like three times.

It doesn’t even look like I just painted it, it looks like it's always been there. It’s just a black heart.

I just wanted to go outside, what is this crap?

Imma sitting down, gonna try to have some big idea on how to get out. Still not gonna walk through a wall, like, if all this happened cuz I tried to leave, I don’t wanna know what’ll happen if I break an actual rule.

September 16th.

Ok so, I got out, didn’t update when I got out cuz I was tired from all that running, so basically, here’s what happened, cuz like, I don’t know what else to do right now, ya know.

Basically, going back the way I came wasn’t working, so I panicked and ran into the goop heart room, which was the gym, somehow? I’m not in the mood to question that right now, or much else really, I’ll have my weirdness epiphany later. And Commandra was practicing, just, running laps over and over again. She stopped to drink some water, and I confronted her about the lie.

She apologized, and admitted she was just worried that there wouldn’t be enough room on the track team for her. And yes, she did like my speed. But also I was the only person she had a reason she could come up with to like, leave.

Admittedly, she was a little mean about it,and it a stupid excuse, but it was an apology, and I was a little mentally worn out, so I accepted it. We ran a few laps, and I’ll give it to her, she’s genuinely really good. Didn’t notice her cheating anywhere.

Anyways, after that I passed out, and then woke up the next morning. Tried to pass the day thinking it was all some bizarre dream, but Commandra asked if we could race again tonight (I panicked and said no). This book just confirms it all happened.
