Conversation with a Native Son: Maya Angelou and James Baldwin
MAE MARTIN as Alex Dempsey WAYWARD (2025) | SEASON ONE
you are not bad. there's no such thing as a bad kid. you know exactly who you are, and you are going to be ok. WAYWARD (2025)
You are lying on your back, crying out for your mother. She is standing facing the wall. She has her back to you. A bell rings. Your mother turns to face you. She is silent, but her mouth is open wide. In her mouth is a door. You are lying on your back, crying out for your mother.
Maybe I went to Ipo to become one of your unresolved cases. Put my photos on the wall, stay awake all night... and think solely of me.

Being small Nobody quite recovers from being a child: the asymmetry of power between parents and children always leaves a trace
im so sorry for everything alby went through but if i had seen niall and the massive black flag looming over his life i wouldn't have touched that. ever. what do you mean you noticed from the get-go niall was scaredobsessedinlove with his stepbrother and you WILLINGLY tried to have something with him. TWICE!?!?
You write too? I keep a diary. That doesn’t count. Try saying that to Anne Frank.
There was this guy at my school who was gay, and he didn't really know how to join in either. Seems to be a sign. You know?

its actually so so delicious that they talked about everything in that hospital room except what this whole thing is really about. their relationship and what being apart for well over a decade did to them. its so much easier to focus on the resentment and anger and hurt than acknowledge The Ache. what if this separation almost killed us but we didnt get into any of that just now lol or possibly ever lmao you're in a hospital room with a beautiful boy where he just assaulted in every possible manner and he wont tell u that he loves u but he loves u or whatever the fuck richard sicken said
emotional responses are deeply evolutionarily advantageous in any animals that are making complex decisions and behaviors (in many vertebrates, say) because they act as a reinforcer for a behavior. a bird taking a vigorous bath in a puddle is probably happy because if that behavior didnt elicit a positive feeling they wouldn't do it (it is dangerous to be on the ground and wet!). if an animal can feel fear, which i think is a less contested assertion to make, then it can certainly feel the opposite, that is, happy.
