“There will come a day in the distant future when many of us will be talking to youngsters about racing’s Triple Crown. And we will talk about a sun-drenched afternoon in June of 2015 when we saw something that no one had seen in 37 years…..that some of us had never seen.
We will talk about a mild-mannered, zen-like horse who had a stride like a flowing river. Who broke from the gate on top & ran increasingly-faster fractions for a mile-&-a-half, leaving only five horses ahead of him in the Belmont Stakes speed record books.
And who came through the lane - almost all by himself - with his ears pricked. And who, when finished, trotted back along the entire distance of the grandstand & clubhouse crowds, acknowledging their love. And sending it right back to them.
We will be talking about a legend.
We will be talking about American Pharoah.”
