I think even after they get together that George would constantly be worried that he’s not enough for Max - that’s he’s not living up to Max’s standards, that’s he’s not leaving the same legacy that Max will, that’s he’s racing in a way that Max never would, that’s he’s worrying about his career in a way that Max pities. And, Max, constantly unimpressed with “and, ifs, or buts” (the classic man of action) simply never notices that George has these concerns because they never cross his mind as even possibilities.
Thusly, George begins to fester over this issues but never brings them up until one day he mentions to Max in passing after an interview about George that Max is “probably embarrassed by the kind of racer he is”. Max is shocked, but in typical Dutch blunt fashion says something like, “It doesn’t embarrass me. You don’t drive like me, but that doesn’t matter when you are beating me.”
Initially, George is offend by this but then realizes that this is the biggest compliment that Max could ever give: recognizing that George can race and win in a way that Max cannot.
Need an edit of George russell to fame is a gun and everytime it gets to the "glamorous life" part of the song its a flash of lewis or nico winning a wdc with mercedes
Maybe collage AU. Roommates Russtappen. Charles is George's on and off boyfriend. Max gets hot and bothered seeing them kiss. He automatically assumes he's homophobic. Something, something, something happens, Max learns that he is simultaneously in love with both George and Charles, and maybe they have a threesome in the end.

this was all at 2 am too and every time I got to the end of a chapter I was having a reckoning with myself between sleep and continuing to read but sleep lost I could not stop myself
like this is the only way I can describe it, it is unarguably my favourite fic I’ve read this year and I need everyone else to read it too
