Aoyama Nation of Tumblr: What do you guys think Yuga’s personality would have been like if he stayed Quirkless his whole life?

I think he would have retained his interests (sparkly things, cheese, France, etc.) mainly because of how he was raised in a rich, European family. As for his character, I imagine he would be a similar case as Midoriya, but… probably worse.

For starters, at least Midoriya’s mom loved him as he was despite her initial sadness toward his Quirklessness. Yuga’s parents, however, pushed the idea that Yuga had to be like everyone else in order to chase his dreams (see season 7, episode 3: Villain). The pressure from his parents along with the Quirkless discrimination would result in him having no support system. Even with a Quirk, it is evident that Yuga did not have many friends growing up due to his lack of social skills (no offense to him).

All of these factors would manifest into him being quieter, blending into the background as to not be noticed for his differences. Yuga would probably be very meek, too. He is already a rather quiet person in canon despite his flamboyant and extravagant personality, as he rarely goes out of his way to interact with others.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if Yuga ended up becoming a villain, as the common factor between the main members of the League of Villains is that they had no support system, essentially abused or abandoned by society.

I like to think that Yuga has a genuinely good heart, though. If he were to enroll in U.A., I can see him pursuing either the support or business course, aiming to create hero costumes or support items (similar to his Navel Laser belt).

Anyway, it is interesting to see how Quirks affect some characters’ personalities. It makes me wonder how a lack of a Quirk would affect their character, especially in Yuga’s case.

Yes!! It does! Honestly, aside from Yuga’s guilt about being a villain, he’d probably get along with the LOV (minus AFO).

Yuga and Tenko are similar in that the adults in their life failed them, and they had no one to turn to for comfort. (I mean, Yuga has his parents, but they got him involved with AFO in the first place and reinforced his belief that he had to “be like everyone else.”)

Yuga and Himiko both with to be more like the people they love/admire. Yuga saw himself in Izuku, but despaired over the fact that he wasn’t as “heroic” as he was. I believe he wanted to be more like him, the same way Toga wanted to be the people she loves.

Yuga and Mr. Compress are both eccentric individuals. I think their personalities would blend well. The same with Magne (especially since I headcanon Yuga to be queer himself, too).

Yuga and Spinner can bond over the discrimination they faced for being “different.”

Twice can entertain Yuga a lot, too. He can make several clones of Yuga in case he ever wanted to test out different outfits or something, lol.

Dabi can probably help Yuga learn that his relationship with his parents isn’t really that healthy, even if they do genuinely love him. I feel that Yuga is the sort of person to refuse to blame his parents for anything. In canon, he blamed himself more than anyone else. I think Dabi can help him realize otherwise.

Kurogiri can be sort of a “dad” figure to Yuga as he is to the entire league.

Yuga would definitely have an interesting dynamic with each of the LOV members! I also find it kinda adorable that he’d be the youngest out of everyone (aside from Mustard, but he was arrested for most of the series).

Yuga growing up with AFO, Kurogiri, and Tomura a constant present in his life. Him having sleepovers with Tomura and sometimes during these sleepovers Kurogiri teaching Yuga how to cook(/follow a recipe). Kurogiri teaching Yuga a recipe that has been specifically modified by him/Oboro, Shouta, and Hizashi (but Kurogiri not remembering how he got the recipe in the first place.)

Years later at UA, at the dorms. It’s Yuga’s turn to cook dinner and forever reason Shouta’s gonna be eating with class 1-A. So, Yuga decides to use that specific recipe, but for twenty-one people rather than for 3-4 people. Obviously not realizing where the recipe originated from.

And then during that dinner, Shouta instantly recognizes the recipe.

Hello! What do you think happened to Mamayama and Papayama post-traitor reveal? Jail time, jail time but they got bailed out, etc etc.

Realistically, I think the Aoyamas would have enough money for their family to bail them out. I don’t know how the Japanese prison system works, but for sure they served time (probably longer than the amount of time Yuga stayed in jail).

I also feel that they probably weren’t allowed to see Yuga for a while. Someone on Twitter asked if what his parents did would be considered abuse. I feel like it would be, as their actions can be considered child endangerment.

Their pressuring of Yuga (mostly on the mother’s side) to be “like everyone else” and to “save” from them AFO could be some sort of emotional/mental abuse as well. I can’t say I know enough about psychology to for-sure classify Yuga’s relationship with his parents abusive, but then again, we don’t know much about Yuga’s life at home.

As for Yuga himself, I imagine that he had to attend years of therapy to heal from the trauma and to unlearn the message his parents gave to him that he had to be like everyone else.

Love the idea of the Aoyamas being Catholic. Especially combined with the idea that Yuga was indeed born in France and moved to Japan sometime later (I like to think they moved to Japan any time between 6-12 months after Yuga got Naval Laser).

Imagine Yuga having a little journal(/series of journals) he writes down his prayers in. Overtime, as he gets older, the weight of AFO becomes apparent as Yuga begins to write down prayers based around the safety of his parents more & more often. And when he forced to become the AFO's Spy, he began including the safety of his classmates in his prayers, both written and verbal.

Also, religion in MHA is also kind of interesting because it makes me curious how much of people's faiths was changed by the existence of quirks? Makes wonder how many people viewed quirks as "sinful" during the dawn of quirks.
