not to be a backwards-thinking assimilationist not-radical gay but as someone who has been out for over a decade and faced a lot of backlash for it i would actually really like to be normal. i would really like to be treated normally by society. iâm proud of my identity and i will never apologize for that, but fuck man. there was a post that went around once that really resonated with me â âbeing gay is a radical act of defiance that none of us signed up forâ.
i donât exist as a lesbian to âchallenge societal normsâ and i wasnât outed against my will when i was young just to grow up and be expected to fulfill a role in some âqueerâ movement that involves fucking, making kinks seem revolutionary or what the fuck ever
i deserve to want to feel normal and i donât understand why itâs shocking to anyone that after girls like me grow up ashamed of our own thoughts, abused, and constantly knowing that every straight girl around us is more valuable and loved and sane than we are just to be told itâs ânot radicalâ to want to be treated with respect and normalcy by a society that rejected us
I kinda feel the same way about being trans nowadays. Like, last night I checked out some pretentious ice cream parlor and the three dudes at the counter were legit trying so hard to avoid making eye contact that I ended up excusing myself by the time one of them acknowledged me. Iâve made some degree of peace with my embodiment and I love the reclamation of monstrosity in trans womenâs online culture, but that sucked, lmfao. Yeah, sometimes itâs a thrill living in defiance of cis/heteronormative society, but sometimes itâs just⊠three scruffy hipsters who wish you didnât exist more than they want your money. Itâs the crushing reminders that you are an Other: strange, ugly, and unwanted. Not queer as in âFuck you,â queer as in, âFuck, I donât even want to look at you.â
We canât all be skinny cis girls with rainbow hair who like pegging their microbrew-swilling boyfriends.

âSurrender Donaldâ â Gay activists rally outside Trump Tower in New York, protesting the cityâs tax breaks for luxury real estate developers while thousands of people with AIDS sleep in the streets. Oct. 31, 1989

Looks like itâs specifically ACT-UP considering the symbol on the bottom right of the âsurrender donaldâ sign.Â
Arphrodite had the epithet ÎșαλλίÏÏ ÎłÎżÏ ( kallĂpygos ), of beautifully shaped buttocks, and after reading so many greek myths I cannot be surprised
Aphrodite of Dat Ass
okay but you cannot leave of the story of aphrodite of kallipygos, whose temple was built by two sisters having an argument over who had the most beautiful asses after they asked the opinion of some passing son of a rich dude and fell in love with him and his brother respectively
ancient greece is fuckin great
the fact that straight people so often can only associate same gender attraction to being explicit and to being inherently sexual shows that they still think of being lgb+ as a perversion. i canât count the number of times iâve encountered people who think that children should be sheltered from knowing about anything that isnât straight because they think that means they will have to teach children about same gender sex. this sexualization of lgb+ people dehumanizes us, plain and simple. the assumption that sams gender attraction has to be sexual is so harmful and iâm done with it being used to keep lgb+ kids in the dark and uneducated about themselves and their identities.

Sex positivity is flat & overwrought. Casual sex can & will re-traumatize you; teaching young girls to have sex before they are ready will create the first red & heavy chasm of sexual trauma, which they will spend the rest of their lives carrying.
cool fact: we can track the Modern Greek word for âcheeseâ (ÏÏ Ï᜷, turĂ) all the way back to Mycenaean tablets- Mycenaean is the oldest form of Greek we know, dating to the 14th century BC. In Mycenaean, itâs written (transliterated) as tu-ro, and later, in the Greek alphabet, ÏÏ ÏÏÏ. Both of them would have been pronounced as turĂłs. The Greek word for âcheeseâ has survived, essentially unchanged, more than 3000 years.
in a similar fashion, the Semitic root for âkingâ (m-l-k), present in the modern Arabic word Ù ÙÙÙÙ, malik, can be found in Akkadian, Ugaritic and the Aramaic languages (and more), all of which were already spoken in the 20th century BC. Because Semitic languages operate by a common consonantal skeleton and itâs usually the vowels that change, we can say that itâs remained essentially the same. Thus, the modern Arabic word for âkingâ carries on its syllables the weight of the time and shadows of all the kings that have ruled, lived and died in 4000 years of human history.
we know of incredibly ancient words. words that were already being said when todayâs society couldnât even be imagined. words older than civilizations, systems and customs.Â
even if sometimes it looks like everything changes too fast, even if sometimes the passing of time and the fear of the future and oblivion becomes asphyxiating, worry not, my friend: words remain.
