Aloe ‘Creamsicle’

Aloe arborescens and Aloe ferox are both species with a wide distribution in South Africa, and where they occur near each other it is not uncommon to find natural hybrids. Usually these have red-orange flowers, but  I had the idea to cross yellow-flowered forms of the 2 species. To my surprise, this plant came out with pale orange buds opening to pale yellow flowers. I gave it the name ‘Creamsicle’, and it has grown beautifully at the Ruth Bancroft Garden, making a fine display in winter.
