Helpppppp I wanted to come out as aroace to my closest friend, and we were literally coming from a pride parade ("we can come as allies!" "yeah, haha, allies, definitely 🫥") so I thought it would be fine. I said something "ironically" referencing not knowing what sex was (yeah, yeah, stereotypes, whatever, I just needed her to understand the rough picture and hoped to explain more later) and she said something like "omg asexual!you headcanon?" And I told her that it's not much of a headcanon. And. She didn't say ANYTHING. And I tried to clarify a bit (without saying outward that I'm aroace because the reaction made me even more nervous) and she literally didn't say anything for a solid minute, maybe even more. No reaction, no acknowledgement. Just changed the subject after the awkward silence

What do I even do now? Pretend it never happened???

strattland being doomed from the very beginning. the only reason their worlds collided is because of the astrophage. she would have stayed as an administrator in esa. he would have stayed as a middle school teacher despite the phd. but would they be happier in a world where the sun never dimmed? grace never realizing his full potential and bravery. stratt feeling lost and never finding her purpose. one thing's for sure though. they would go on living their lives feeling like something's missing, never knowing what it is— or who it is.

The Vat probably constantly heard public announcements like "Dr. Grace, NO food in the lab", "Dr. Grace, I'm sure you have noticed it's dinner time. Head to the cafeteria this instant", "Dr. Grace, GO TO MEDICAL RIGHT NOW, OH MY GOD"

She's not yet aware of the gossip about their relationship status this causes.

(I mean, yeah, she has Carl on babysitter duty for Grace, but even he needs to take breaks or is needed elsewhere for short amounts of time)

thinking about dark the show again and how it started because of a parent's love for his child (tannhaus to save his son from death), it continues because michael knows if he doesn't do his part jonas (his Son and friend) will never have been born and that's his boy he can't erase him. so he kills himself and the wheel keeps turning. noah and his desperate crusade are all for his missing daughter. claudia breaks the wheel and solves it and she is doing it all for regina, her daughter who she will do anything for, to give her a future free from death and darkness. by reuniting tannhaus and his family, by avoiding their deaths, winden is saved from the cycle, jonas and martha disappear. and at the end the only thing that remains is hannah and the name jonas. because he may not exist and she may not know him. but she will always love him. because that's her son that's her baby, and nothing trumps a parent's love for their kid

Book Grace ily

Book Grace:

Assumes past him was brave enough to take the mission, thinks that’s super dumb because there were definitely better candidates but accepts it.

“Well I guess that’s who I am. The smartest idiot to be brave enough to be shot into space.” Proceeds to wear that character as a mask to cover the fear and petty (justifiable) anger over his situation.

Post coma Grace is alarmingly blasé about risking his life and frequently jokes sarcastically about dying. He rushes through his work and makes many cavalier mistakes. He finds it quite easy to shrug off Rocky’s jabs at his work and readily admits when he’s wrong and Rocky is right.

This person is not the Ryland Grace from Earth. That Grace checked and double checked his work in the face of a race against the clock, he was petty and snarky every single time literally anyone even suggested he was wrong and he valued his life enough that the end of the world wasn’t enough to get him to risk it. He was also extremely uncomfortable about the original crew making light about their deaths.

Movie Grace:

Has an instinctual feeling that the situation he’s in isn’t right beyond the obvious. He can’t reconcile the idea that he would be brave enough to volunteer for the mission because in his gut he knows that he wasn’t and still isn’t. That’s why he said dumb when Rocky asked for the translation for brave when book Grace accepted that description. In the face of this he assumes that rather than something making him brave enough to volunteer, he was actually just caring and reckless enough to do it for his kids and the rest of humanity.

So this is the mask he must wear to overcome his fear, deep care for others with a dash of recklessness. This isn’t near as effective of a mask against fear, if it was enough he would have volunteered in the first place because that actually is who he is. So he has to try to move through the fear anyway, this winds up with him just trying to keep moving at a fast enough pace that the fear can’t catch him.

In the movie, Earth Grace and post coma Grace remain fairly consistent because they reduced the impact of his amnesia, which left him with an instinctual understanding of who he was as a person.

In the book, Earth Grace and post coma Grace have significant differences in how they respond to things due to the extreme levels of amnesia leaving him without even an instinctual understanding of himself, like for Christ sake he was genuinely worried he might be a pedophile for a second.

Yes book Grace was absolutely more bitchy and less awkward but there isn’t all that much difference in how they responded to the mission and stepped up to the plate once push came to shove. Movie Grace just wallowed more because he didn’t have the bravery mask to hide behind, and Book Grace messed around and wasted time making stupid mistakes, like leaving everything out knowing he was about to go into micro gravity, because he thought he was the scientist equivalent of Han Solo or something.

the worst part of the deleted scenes is that i understand why they cut every single one and theres this palpable difference where you can tell its moreso just ryan gosling and james ortiz having fun on set than narratively serving grace and rocky. this however has led to my new demand for a 3 hour movie of ryan gosling and james ortiz having fun on set muppet style.

Need more Eva Stratt and vat crew lovers to rise up cause as much as I love Eva's relationship and connection to Ryland, I need more people to explore her connection with the other crew members too, because you cannot convince me miss lover of the world did not form genuine friendships during those four years on the vat

Here I'll start:

Eva + Steve = bonding over faith/comforting each other through their shared faith over what must be done

Eva + Lokken = hatred evolving into deep trust and genuine friendship/two ragebaiters that team uo against Ryland (female friendship part 1!!)

Eva + Lamai = shy woman breaking out of her shell becoming her most trusted doctor when things go wrong (female friendship part 2!!!)

Eva + Bob = shared guilt over the loss of life that was under their command, at first she hated his neglect of his position, but post-explosion quickly learned to understand him

Eva + Dimitri = loyal henchman and boss dynamic, I've only read the earth scenes in the book but it looks like she met and brought Dimitri onto the project before she met Ryland, I'd like to believe he becomes one of her first real friends

Eva + François = sharing the weight of the world on their shoulders through committing terrible atrocities to save it, he being the one to fully understand the weight on Eva's shoulders (plus I fully believe post-arrest she puts him in charge)
