the most annoying take from the Shiny Happy People documentary is all the “cool” Christians rushing to talk about how it’s “not all Christians.”

most Christians don’t even call out toxic and abusive behaviors in their own churches and I’ve attended many capitalism worshiping, misogynistic, racist churches all across the US (purple states, blue states, deep red states). It’s part of the reason I deconstructed my faith as recent as 2018.

it is about American Christianity. Most mainstream evangelicals are not running around fighting against the IBLP. They just hate that the men in that sect say the quiet part out loud. The doc showcases a feature, not a bug in the Christian system! and if your response is to automatically be defensive rather than feeling sympathy for the victims of the actual abuse depicted…. Please reevaluate your life 😵‍💫🤦🏼‍♀️
