Jess does not return to Stars Hollow after the car crash. Instead Luke goes to visit him during the summer, and finds out how his sister and his nephew have really been living. Liz is high, her apartment is a mess, and so is Jess. He takes a feverish Jess to the hospital and then back to Stars Hollow. -- Luke gets another attempt at being a parent, and this time around he decides to give Jess another attempt at being a teenager.

It’s so sweet how certain Luke was that Jess would like Rory, “because she’s a lot like Lorelai,” and he likes Lorelai. As if he believed loving the Gilmore girls was simply in their blood or something. And he was right.

But I also love how it's tempered by "...but with a slightly firmer grasp on reality." As though, Luke is already resigned to the fact that Lorelai is completely unhinged and he kind of is, too, for being into that, but knows that most people would prefer their love interests (or friends, in this instance) to be a little less intense.

I understand why people don’t like Rory but wow some people genuinely talk about Rory as if she is the worst person on earth and also make up scenes about Rory or ignore the context of scenes or the aftermath of them to make Rory seem like an absolutely terrible person.
