observing the world around you is one of the best things you can do to write realistic descriptions and build complex relatable characters.

watch how people act. study the way relationships develop. some people’s mannerisms. observe the sunset and the way colours blend together. listen to the sounds of a city or beach.

take all of it in and integrate it in your writing. it helps so much with creating your world.

here are some of the things i would like for christmas:

the ability to write my book and complete my first draft without focusing on all its flaws because first drafts are EXPECTED to be imperfect. they should be a foundation that i can improve later on and there is no need to worry about the quality of a first draft as what matters the most is to put the words down on paper first. can’t improve what doesn’t exist!

a decent sleep schedule.

recently writing my book has been so much more rewarding than writing fanfics and i haven’t even actually started writing my first draft yet lmao

i love how some people’s first reaction to me telling them i’m writing a book is to go ahead and say stuff like: “i wish i had time to write a book.”

like yeah, me too actually. but instead i’m doomed to having to cram my writing time during my bus rides to and from work and uni. we just make it work somehow.
