I don't know who needs to hear this but... start living. The days are flying by and all you do is work, pay bills, and stress. Enjoy what you can like walks, sunsets, music, laughter. Joy doesn't have to be expensive. You deserve it.

I just wrote 8 pages when I haven't written in months and was beginning to think I'd never be able to again. Idk what it is, but I am sharing and manifesting this energy for every writer who sees this. May you write 8 quality pages effortlessly and find joy writing once more

Observed today:
Two little girls playing gently with a daddy long legs.
Girl 1: can it die?
Girl 2, in a calm happy even tone: of course. Like all living things it can and must die.
Daily reminder that Captain Yáo Li-Jie, Engineer Olesya Ilyukhina, and Science Officer Ryland Grace were (likely) turned into saints. They’ll be the patrons of hope, space travel, and perseverance.
Offerings will be made at their alters. Prayers made to them/in their name. They’ll be on every ancestral table and mass as the ones who made today possible. And when humanity embarks on its first trips to the stars without the shadow of human extinction hanging off them, it’s to the PHM crew that they’ll ask to look after them.
Eva Stratt will be vilified. Her name will become as infamous as some of the greatest monsters humanity has seen. They’ll curse her name and she’ll be remembered as the architect for the destruction of earth as humanity knew it.
And yet she’ll also be deified for every single life, human and otherwise, that she managed to saved and made it possible for them to be born. They’ll be no prayers, no offerings at her alter (not that she had one) but in the darkest moments humanity has, humanity will remember their patron of last resorts and only chances. They’ll ask for Her guidance, Her intelligence, and Her determination.
Because Eva Stratt destroyed humanity’s yesterday and today, to promise them a tomorrow.
an apology for my last post
Please remember that almost everyone around you is traumatized. I didn’t understand this when I was younger. I wondered why people acted so strangely and irrationally. Maybe all children wonder this. The author Robert Anton Wilson said (paraphrasing), “We have never seen a completely sane adult human.” No one makes it out of this life alive. It’s not their fault. Mercy, kindness, forgiving — these are what makes one human. They are other names for love. People break in the strangest of ways.
“Under the present brutal and primitive conditions on this planet, every person you meet should be regarded as one of the walking wounded. we have never seen a man or woman not slightly deranged by either anxiety or grief. we have never seen a totally sane human being." — Robert Anton Wilson

Something neuroscience-y that helps with prose: attention is selective. A character will not notice everything in a room. They will notice what matters to their goal, fear, desire, training, wound, or obsession. A jealous character notices hands. a hungry character notices food. A soldier notices exits. A lonely character notices pairs. Description becomes character when attention has a bias.

Aerospace Engineer Looks at SM-13 for the First Time
So, I'm friends with someone who makes airplanes for a living. They wish to remain anon. I tossed them some SM-13 renders to see if they could make anything of it (for wiki purposes), and got this in response...
The only thing left they had to say:
rocky phm makes me unwell to even think about because what do you Mean he haunted that ship like a ghost clinging to its unfinished purpose for decades until another lonely ghost found him by following a trail of death spanning time and space and they loved each other back to life
like i get the appeal of the angst of being like "ohhh rocky is going to be the eridian equivalent of someone who 'came back wrong' with all the human mannerisms and cultural knowledge he's adopted from and learned to accomodate for grace" but it literally doesn't matter because he came back. and grace is the only one who could have brought him back at all. if you even care.
as is the case with everyone their relationship is very thought provoking to me
Games from older consoles are being made less and less available to the point so much of the industry's history could easily vanish without
Preserving classic videogames from consoles past.
I'm just gonna slide this on in here for anyone that is interested in preserving old games. They take it very seriously too, they want an archive of every single game. Like, they have lists of every game ever released for a system, and once that system gets old enough, they add it to their archive and start collecting. Their latest addition was the Xbox 360, they opened that vault up in September 2022, and proudly announced they'd finished their collection of games for it back in April.
Also, while their game archives are almost entirely complete, they've got another project of archiving the manuals that came with those games, and that is... considerably less well filled out. Their collection of Xbox 360 manuals is especially rough, they've only gotten manuals for three games. So if you've got some Xbox 360 games kicking around, and the manual's still with them, please consider scanning them and submitting them to the site!
Game preservation is important, but people rarely consider preserving the manuals as well; I really respect Vimm's Lair for being so thorough in their archival work.
I've been using Vimm's Lair for years, I have yet to see a single bad link or virus on the entire site. It's arguably the safest and most comprehensive archive of video games in existence. Preserved history
they never let each other work in peace.
