just to add, 5 MILLION hectares is larger than some countries. here’s a tweet with some visuals.

the air quality in sydney is so bad it’s almost equivalent to smoking 37 cigarettes. in some parts the air is so bad it’s exceeded delhi’s pollution when it reached “unbearable” levels last month.

the smoke is so bad it’s drifted across the ocean to new zealand and is polluting their air too.

here in australia, we’re experiencing first hand the extreme effects of global warming and the changing climate. these fires are the result of years of drought and exceptionally dry conditions.

nsw coastline:

these pictures are of people camping out in/around a lake to escape the fires. these pics were taking in the morning/mid day:

homes are being destroyed, people are dying and our wildlife is being devastated.

i don’t think this is global news, but it should be. please spread the information and inform people.
