“Well, I think there’s a different way ya can say it… It ain’t like you were horrified at the other monster for bein’ spooky… Unless you were!”
“Either way, as long as you communicate that you were just feelin’… shy, that’s just what it is, huh? You’d have t’be in a pretty specific headspace t’get mad about that. C’mon, you wanna go ‘n swim out together?”
OH, IF ONLY the monster had been spooky ( She probably wouldn’t have ran if that were the case )... Shyren lets out a wistful sort of sigh, arms falling down to her sides.
❝Mm... I-I guess so... U-um-! W-would you...? I figure, um... If I d-do run in-into them, I w-won’t be so scared to ta-alk. I-if you’re there.❞
A truthful statement. Oh, the wonders of having someone she cares about around... Shyren’s claws lift, clicking softly as she meekly taps them together.
❝A-and... e-even if they aren’t there... Y-you’ll at le-east be able t-to listen to my practice? If you wa-ant...❞

Bones had been in town buying supplies when the smaller monster had zipped by him. Assuming her to be in a hurry to get somewhere, he paid her little mind, though the perception training that had been ground into him noted he hadn’t seen her around town before.
Once his purchases were complete, he began the trek back to the Ruins. Walking through the woods, he was surprised to see the scaly monster from earlier. “Whoa, take it easy! You’re fine!” he exclaimed. After a brief pause, he chuckled. “Just wasn’t expecting to see anyone out this way. Won’t find much besides quiet loneliness in the Ruins.”
He offered the girl a kind smile. “Sorry if I scared you. My name’s Bones,” he said. “Do you come out this way often?”
THOUGH THE STRANGER claims she was fine, her chest still aches with guilt all the same. If she truly hadn’t worried him before, wouldn’t her apology just now have done that anyways...?
... Well, she’ll have to worry about that later ( and she certainly will ). At his following questions and pleasant smile, her eyes flick down towards the ground.
❝It’s, um... I-it’s okay. I’m Shyren. I-it’s nice t-to meet you...❞
She offers a polite nod.
❝I d-don’t- um, I-I don’t... usually come out th-this fa-ar, no. I... d-didn’t know a-anyone still l-lived in the Ruins...? S-sorry...❞

It wasn’t uncommon that he was awake at this time (Really it was rare he slept long periods of a time at all-), So rather then wait around the house all day, he’d geared up in his royal guard outfit and stepped out into the snowy area that was his home. He was going to walk to the capital to see if there were any extra shifts he could pick or relieve someone else of theirs…That is, Until he heard singing. Quiet and lovely.
It was a uncommon sound in snowdin, More suited to quiet chatter or, in some cases, the loud yelling of the younger skeleton as he chased his elder sibling through snowdrifts for another perceived slight. He noted it stopped the moment his boot crunched into the snow. Still, despite shyren’s hope she hadn’t been overhead, she had since not even two seconds later, Papyrus’s head popped into sight.
“WHY HE-.”
For about two seconds, His normally loud speech came out before he clamped his mouth shut once he saw it was Shyren, He didn’t want to scare her away. In fact he looked rather sheepishly apologetic before starting again, This time a lot softer.
“Oh, Hello shyren, i didn’t realize it was you over here. Your singing was wonderful.”
THE INITIAL VOLUME of the skeleton’s voice inevitably causes the little siren to jump, adopting a rigid stance that slowly relaxes ( and becomes a tad bit more embarrassed ) when Papyrus speaks once again. This one...
She’d never been bold enough to approach him, of course ( she seldom approached anyone, really ), but she had seen him around Waterfall enough for her to be used to seeing him... Almost enough so that he didn’t truly feel like much of a stranger anymore. She looses a tiny, shaky exhale, freeing a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding.
❝Th- thank you...!❞
Her voice comes out barely over a whisper.
❝D- um... Do y-you really think s-so...?❞

…It was leaking. It’s probably fine, he’ll fix that later.
“Well, let’s flip the script, huh? If the same thang happened to ya, would you be mad if someone passed by and ran away?”
“I don’t think you’d hate the other person for doin’ somethin’ like that. People ferget stuff all the time. Maybe they think ya forgot yer phone ‘r somethin’, huh?”
SHYREN LETS OUT a defeated little sound, head tilting towards the ground in quiet resignation.
❝Mm... Th-that’s no fair... You know I d-don’t hate anyone, no matter w-what they do... Y-you’re right, though. I thi-ink.❞
Shyren fidgets in place for a moment or two.
❝B-but... W-what if I see them again, a-and they ask? Y-you don’t think... th-they would be of-offended if I told them I was scared, d-do you...?❞

* A-ah!! A-am I...? I-! Tr-try to... check the t-time! A-and f-find places tha-at n-no one else is in... I-... ( Is 10 AM really that early...!? )
* A-ah, oh no, th-these just sound like excuses, d-don’t they...? I-I’m sorry! I’ll... b-be quieter...! In the future!

* ... Somehow, Shyren gets the impression that you may be making fun of her.

WHILE IT WAS remarkably rare, there were times where Shyren ended up feeling particularly bold and, as a result, ended up making bold choices before said boldness inevitably faded away. This time? Well... she always had wanted to explore New Home... So, that’s exactly what she’d set out to do.
... What she hadn’t intended, however, was getting horribly and disorienting lost as she explored an unfamiliar city on her own. The realization is enough to sap whatever momentum she previously had... and leaves her unable to so much as consider asking someone for directions. So, she does what any other monster in her situation would do: wander about aimlessly in the hopes that something ends up looking familiar. After all... she’d have to find her way eventually, right?
... In trying to find her way, she doesn’t exactly keep great tabs on where she’s going, and it isn’t too long before she finds herself swimming right into someone ( though the impact on her part is no more powerful than a light bump ). Shyren’s eyes dart upwards franticly to get a look at who... and the sight greeting her makes her want to melt into a puddle on the spot.

IT ISN’T ALL that unusual a day in Waterfall. The region’s namesakes filled the air with the sound of rushing water, the echo flowers chatter with the scattered words of passersby, and a familiar siren hums the day away as she tucks herself away in one of many dark corners... for a time.
Whispers aren't unheard of around waterfall, of course. Between the echo flowers and the typical residents that mill about on the day to day, one would do well to expect certain places to be abuzz with conversation... The spots that Shyren chose to hide away in, however, were none such spots, and that was a fact that the little monster ( in her typical quest for isolation ) usually made certain of.
The talking goes largely unnoticed at first... until Shyren can ignore it no longer. A continuous stream, too regular to be an echo of any sort... The sound of it is enough to cause anyone to get anxious ( so she believes ). So... reluctantly she sets off to find the source.
It’s admittedly not long before she finds it: what appears to be a lone monster, talking away on a subject that she can’t quite hear. She’d have been content to leave her discovery at that and be on her way...
That is, if the other hadn’t turned around just as she thought to leave.

SOME THINGS DON’T ever seem to change. Waterfall ( thankfully for Shyren ) was one of those things. Though the barrier being broken offered up a wide, bright world with endless opportunity... It also opened a window for attention... Attention that would be stifling even if Shyren hadn’t become associated with one of the most attention-grabbing monsters both above and below ground.
Having a spot to go back to when it all became too much to bear had quickly become something of a lifesaver, and with the underground emptied of most of its residents, Waterfall was as quiet and empty as ever, and the perfect place to hide away.
... Or, at least, she'd assumed no one else would be down here. It takes her a moment or two to notice it: the faint sound of footsteps, barely able to be heard over the rushing of the water. After a moment of hesitance, she calls out, her own voice barely louder than what she’d heard.
❝Hh...! U-um- He-ello...?❞

THOUGH SHE DIDN’T travel outside of the caverns of Waterfall to see it very often, there was something about snow that Shyren has always found calming. The whimsicality of it perhaps, or the quiet that accompanied it as it fell... Regardless of the reason, it was a common enough occurrence for her to travel just outside of her home to see it from time to time. Today, it seems, is one of those days.
The siren settles herself down not too far from the entrance to Waterfall, nestled within the relative cover of a thin copse of trees. And what else should she do to pass the time but indulge in one of the things she holds dearest? Quietly, almost cheerfully, Shyren sings quietly to herself as she scoops up a small handful of snow into her claws, slowly molding it into a loose ball, until-
Crunch.
The sound of boots on snow cause her grip to tighten, crushing the unfinished snowball and stopping her song in its tracks... She... hadn’t been overheard, had she-?

IT WASN’T THAT often that Shyren felt bold enough to venture far out of Waterfall. Even less so were the occasions that Shyren ventured through the cold long enough to make it to Snowdin town. Even disregarding the chill that would seep into her scales, the inevitable attention she would draw by nature of being a stranger to those that live there was typically more than the little siren thought she could handle.
As it turns out, it wasn’t all that hard to avoid all the unwanted attention when you make a mad dash through the town faster than others can greet you and hide out in a forest for a few minutes. With the town now behind her, Shyren allows herself to let out a small breath in relief...
... A relief that is remarkably short lived in the face of what sounded unmistakably like someone approaching her. Whipping around as the sound stops just behind her, Shyren immediately begins to spout... an apology?
❝I-I-I’m s-sorry!!! I d-didn’t!! M-mean to wo-orry anyone!❞

The little monster shrinks under your gaze. Perhaps she’s trying to become invisible? Her answer comes out at a volume barely over a whisper.

He crossed his arms, brow furrowed… Being at home, he felt little to no reason to put on any airs. Rather than the usual bro-y speech he uses while out and about, the stereotypical country drawl flowed free.
“We’re just at home, though, Sweet Pea… C’mon.”
He reaches under the fridge with one hand, lifting up the poor shy creature’s little hiding spot.
“ ‘S a new day, y’know? Your old other hidin’ spot fer yer singin’ all occupied? Way I see it, that’d be the perfect time t’show off whatcha practiced.”
AH. IN THE heat of the moment, she’d forgotten that her step-brother’s muscles weren’t just there for show. Powerless to stop him, Shyren sits inert in the spot where she once lay hidden, staring up at Aaron with a look of shock... but not so much fear... After all, what reason would she have to fear from him, of all monsters?
... Well, aside from losing his grip on the fridge, anyways. Left with little choice, she swims up from her spot on the floor and settles for huddling in the corner of the kitchen instead, defeated. Aaron’s suggestion causes a glimpse of interest, but Shyren’s expression quickly falls as she seems to recall something.
❝There... w-was someone nearby. Wh-when I w-we-went to go there... a-... and then I-I think they s-sa-saw me, s-so I. Ran. A-and now I fe-eel like... If I go back, a-and they did see me...! M-maybe they’d b-be mad or something...❞
