literally how the fuck did it come to be that three completely disparate pieces of media played by the same dude fit together so well that it inspired a mass psychosis collective world building event in the span of like, a month where sometimes the minor details change but ultimately Court is tragically burdened older brother who loves the twins so much that he kills for them and then gets sent away, and Colt is the little shit with a heart of gold who often leaps before he looks especially when it comes to his brothers, and Ryland is the tender heart with boundless enthusiasm who has such high ambitions but would give it all up for his brothers if asked

the project hail mary fandom is great because it’s almost two separate fandoms. one is people who really love the film and/or the book and are very passionate about them. they have their eridian OCs and headcanons about the world after the beetles return to earth, they probably also get the EWC as well

and then part of it is building an intricate interconnected crossover world that links several movies that have almost nothing in common, which, almost akin to goncherov, has collectively constructed lore and plot points that are widely accepted and discussed identically to canon

obviously some people cross over between both sides but occasionally there’ll be people who are unaware of the other group and they’ll interact, and every time it is beautiful. both of these types of people are correct btw.

i’ve seen this user post this photo as a sort of reaction image a couple times now and it makes me laugh every time. because this is the incredibly elusive marbled cat and they really do just have a tendency to look so pitiful, guilty, and empty in the head. so here’s some more photos of them looking like there’s just one marble bouncing around their skull:

one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.

yeah it’s just like so uninteresting when it’s like penelope can only be interesting if she’s a tough girlboss badass strategist but not if she’s weeping herself to sleep. telemachus can only be engaged with if he is a young and optimistic bright eyed child and not the adult that he is certainly considered to be by the standards of the homeric epic (young but still very much an adult!) complicit in the murder of slave women and misogynistic toward his mother. odysseus’ love for penelope can only compelling if he’s never interested in other women. first of all like these are just very one dimensional views of these characters that are like not really honest engagements with them. and way less interesting. also if you have to go in and erase parts of the odyssey you’re uncomfortable with then eventually you are just no longer engaging with what it is.

like do I think odysseus’ love for his family and particularly penelope is one of the most captivating and moving stories in all of ancient literature? yeah. do i think he was a good person and a perfectly faithful husband to her? well not necessarily at all. but the secret is that you can recognize universal themes that you like without erasing the parts of the text that make you uncomfortable
