many of you just. genuinely don’t believe that people can grow and change.
this is about the death penalty and its also about call out posts about people who have already apologized for things they did a long time ago and it’s also about using ‘toxic’ or ‘abuser’ as if its an immutable class of person, and its also about any other circumstance with permanent consequences or wherein you assume someone is still the same person they were.
i don't actually care about the argument being had in the post this is from, but i just find this interesting:
the "just" is doing a lot of work here. there's an implicit belief that feelings are immaterial, subjective and therefore less real and less meaningful (hyperobjectivity), and meant to be overpowered by the rational objective will. and therefore, if gender is "just" a feeling, then it shouldn't have such a strong impact on one's life that one is not able to simply repress out of existence. which means that because one CANNOT do that, gender must be objectively real and not emotionally or socially based.
if you do not start from this hyperobjective perspective, this line of logic starts to fall apart. feelings are not "just," and they can have a profound impact on someone's life while nonetheless being subjective. the same goes for social constructs and the influence of culture over our feelings and ways of making sense of our experiences; none of this is "just" anything, and there should be no expectation that one can simply (or should simply!) make experiences born out of feelings or society "go away." but hyperobjectivity is deeply ingrained in our culture, and if you do not have the skills or foundation to make meaning differently, you won't.
i don't doubt this person feels genuinely supported and seen by 4tran. but i also think a lot of that has more to do with their broader worldview and meaningmaking practices & not finding other trans perspectives as credally accessible from where they are right now.
#Failure from oop to recognise that maybe there are reasons this place felt more welcoming to them than others#One such thing being RACE. and ability to pass. But lets focus on the race one really hard. Its 4chan. You fill in the blanks there#Anyway really good discussion on hyperpbjectivity and the way we think about feelings and structures#So important to examine our worldviews structures and how we extrapolate and form meaning from our experiences and feelings#And SO important to re-evaluate the fact something being socially or emotionally structured does not make it any less “real”#Doing this moreoften and learning to let go of hyperobjectivity would in my opinion#Deconstruct all transmedicalism and its ilk immediatly.#Also noting the mention of finding people who agree with your stances. This is a major way hate groups recrout btw#Less related to this convo but very worth understanding unconditional support + hyperobjectivity used towards this subject#Are hand in hand in creating the type of person that frequents places like that
[ID: a screenshot from a tumblr post with the text: also, for the record, I don’t know exactly how toxic you think 4tran is, but in my time engaging with that community, I’ve felt more comfort than ever before. /tttt/ helped me learn that the world isn’t always against me and that there are people out there who agree with a lot of my stances. If you think I should go back to “gender’s just a feeling, so why can’t I make it go away” then I think you should fuck off and eat rocks. /end ID]
too many people seem to think certain ships would officially start going out and put a label on their relationship and sometimes even go so far as to get married. but most of the time said ships would really just be freaks and fuck weirdstyle without addressing the elephant in the room that is the mutual romantic attraction

you!!! are!!! not!!! running!!! out!!! of!!! time!!!
it literally doesn’t matter if you’re in your 20s or 30s or 40s or 50s or 60s or 70s or 80s or fucking 90s. if you’re still alive, you literally still have that chance in your hands. don’t let your mind or anyone or anything trick you into thinking otherwise!!!!
Wait wow okay how didn’t I hear of this. Well even though im late to this, congrats to these two!
have u guys noticed the phenomenon that's like
- m/f ship between a nonblack man & a Black woman
- it's either canon (e.g. mel/jayce arcane, arthur/guinevere bbcmerlin) or entirely plausible (e.g. prism or coupé/robert dispatch)
- fanbase overwhelmingly pairs nb man off with another nb man and disengages from the Black woman character, shunting her into a background wise & sassy caretaker role (for which there is a name) or leaving her out of fanworks entirely
- fans who do this ^ claim it is an expression of love and admiration for the Black woman character, actually, bc the nb man (who may be her canonical partner) "can't handle all that" (he may be perfectly competent and engaged; she may be totally low maintenance; it has no bearing), she's just too wonderful (too much) and out of his league (lacking in flaws and interiority and fan appeal)
have we all observed this and can we see the multiple dimensions in which it is racist ☝️ i'm not bringing it up to make any beautiful fujos feel bad abt shipping this or that, just to ask for some consideration of what ppl are saying abt Black women when they make their excuses to each other. like you can just not make the excuses. yk?
who do you think i am? looking for recommendations
