My country has elections happening soon, and today canvassers knocked on my door from the most prominent party.
Now I am not policitian or canvasser, but here's a hot tip anyway:
If you introduce yourself as the Candidates husband, maybe don't specifically ask the constituent your talking to if they're friends with [insert well known community person] to then when met with the answer of yes, tell them "Well he's been a lifelong supporter of [party you're in favour of] but now he's voting for my wife" because 1) that's manipulative and 2) not for you to share
And secondly and most importantly don't then lie and tell the constituent that you're on a local charities committee with said friend, because
1) You're not, and
2) The constituent you're talking to IS.
Went to the grocery store with my kindergartener. We weighed some bananas: 2 pounds even. We weighed a watermelon: 4 pounds even. We weighed some mangos: a little over 1 pound. We weighed the watermelon AND the bananas: 6 pounds even.
“That’s funny” said the child “because 2+4=6 and two pounds and four pounds is six pounds. It’s like the same as math!”

I find myself heartbroken by the new casting news for Heartstopper (movie) by Alice Oseman.
Nick's mum (previously played by Olivia Coleman) is being replaced with Anna Maxwell Martin, the actress who signed on to play Rita Skeeter in the new Harry Potter audible series.
Someone who does not care about funding Rowling's anti-trans rhetoric and active campaigning, has now been hired to be the supportive/ally mum in what has been widely deemed as one of the most heartwarming and positive LGBTQ+ series of the decade.
Olivia Coleman did a superb job and her response to Nick's coming out in Season 1 was one of the highlight moments of the series, showing parents worldwide how to respond to your child coming out to you. I understand she wasn't able to reprise her role for the film, but to be replaced by someone who does not care for the trans community is abysmal and undermines all the work put into the series by Coleman.
*How* can Alice and the casting department be so tone deaf to think this casting decision was the right choice? I'm appalled.

My dad is going deaf. He has been losing his hearing at a significant decline for the past couple of years.
Today I told him that I've been looking into courses to learn BSL, had already picked up a few simple phrases, and suggested that we learn together as a family.
I was met with anger and disgust.
I realise he'll have had many internal emotional reactions to my statement, but I cannot grasp how me essentially saying "I love and support you enough to learn a new language for you", is something for him to react to me with only anger.

I met a printer early in my IT career that did not want to be a printer. it sat in a school reprographics room, sullenly chewing any job it was fed - if it deigned to notice them at all.
then one day, a miracle occurred. an exhausted physics teacher, instead of punching in 12 for the number of copies she wanted of the 30-page booklet she had made for her A-level physics class, punched in 1200.
and that printer came to life. this print job was its moment, its magnum opus! it WOULD NOT be parted from it, no matter what we did, until we physically unplugged it from the wall, by which time it had printed almost 200 copies.
moral of the story: no printer wants to be a printer, unless you also do not want it to be a printer for a bit.

don't infantilise yourself. you are not a child who needs an adult to make your decisions for you. you are a splendid and magnificent autocrat and you are consulting your trusted advisors. you are exercising great wisdom by inviting an expert to give their opinion before making your ruling. often the path of wisdom is to say "good morning, I'm trying to [perform task] and I have a question about [aspect], can you tell me who I should speak to for advice?" before you do it. sometimes the path of wisdom is to hire a plumber. there are times when you cannot do things for yourself but that doesn't mean you are not an adult. you don't need a grown-up. you need a specialist.

The issue with the daylight savings time change is that people aren't used to falling back an hour or springing forward an hour, and people struggle as they take the time to adjust. But of course, if you only do something twice a year you'll never develop a talent for it. You need to practice if you really want to be good at something!
