I don't believe so many people see Sherlock Holmes as neorotypical. The same Sherlock Holmes who gets bored so easily and yet once he finds something interesting, he will absolutely need to solve it. Sherlock Holmes, who just randomly infodumps on Watson about literal fucking mud, on multiple occasions. Sherlock Holmes who routinely fiddles with his violin and makes discordant noises. The same man who makes leaps of deduction which literally no one else sees, and can only understand when he takes them through every step of his analysis. The one and only Sherlock Holmes who collects random articles about people and hoards things with the vague hope that someday he might need the <insert thing here> again. The Mr. Sherlock "never a very sociable fellow" Holmes? Sherlock Holmes who will not clean his room, and makes up all sorts of excuses to divert Watson's attention, who hates anything being moved from its designated place, who is neat in thought and style, but stabs his letters to the mantelpiece. "He had a horror of destroying documents, especially those which were connected with his past cases..."(The Musgrave Ritual) Anyone? This ring a bell, oh venerated 'Holmes Scholar'? You are telling me people read the books and intentionally come to the conclusion that Sherlock Holmes is absolutely neurotypical and has no neurodivergent tendencies and symptoms at all? That most of these above examples are not symptoms of Autism, ADHD, etc. just happens to be a coincidence? Huh. Guess people really are blind when they want to be.
COCAINE MAKES HIM SLEEPY! I will never be over this, cocaine canonically makes Sherlock Holmes drowsy. A quote from “A Scandal in Bohemia” (emphasis mine):
“alternating from week to week between cocaine and ambition, the drowsiness of the drug”
What is your non-ADHD explanation for that? I know perfectly well why a man with ADHD and what seems to be a fairly inconsistent sleep schedule would get drowsy from taking a stimulant, but how are you supposed to explain that happening to a neurotypical person, huh?
Oh good god it's gotten worse
Okay, so I just saw a tiktok saying "hey, ao3 is not tiktok. Do not censor words, especially in the tags." I stg people are losing brain cells. The tiktoker then proceeded to show an example of the tag they saw which was:
"s..cidal ideation"
I don't know who needs to, once again, hear this, but you are stopping the tagging system, and filtration system from working.
People censor words on platforms like tiktok to stop the algorithm from picking up their video and automatically taking it down or restricting it.
A tagging system works so that other people can easily filter the content they do and don't want to see. So if some had "suicidal ideation" in their filtered tags so that they won't see things containing that subject matter, by censoring the word suicidal, you have now stopped the tagging/filtration system from working and now the individual is going to see content that they had made sure to filter out.
Please stop censoring words and/or phrases. Especially in tags. You are literally stopping the system from working and doing its job. Ao3 (and Tumblr) is not tiktok. The tags are there for a reason. Don't censor them.
This is why aliens don’t want us in their Starfleet.
Are you fucking kidding this is why aliens should be begging us to join their Starfleet. The precision?? The CONTROL?? The absolute mastery this driver has over their 20+ ton of steel is superhuman. This person could weave a mothership through an asteroid belt without making a single scratch on the hull. Foh “aliens don’t want us” aliens should be sucking our dicks.
I cannot stop thinking about how emet selch couldnt recognize the wol as azem bc they were clouded by light. The realization—and epiphany—at the very end; knowing exactly who had thwarted his best laid plans. Ever the adventurer, ever the counsellor to the people, not even a fractured version of them would stand for such cruelty.
I wonder if that’s why he accepted defeat? Losing a battle of wills that transcended the bounds of time and rebirth? Or maybe he was just glad to see the colour of their soul one last time
Japan’s complete lack of understanding of declining birth rates in relation to its work culture reminds me a lot of how America has an assumption that millennials are killing industries when the truth is they are more frugal because of a lack of funds.
Both come from a conservative mindset that neglects the impact that a toxic work culture can have on society.
A 80+ hour work week in order to maintain financial stability isn’t exactly a solid ground to date people and eventually build a family from a healthy relationship.
A workforce comprised of 20 somethings that make between 20-40k a year in entry positions isn’t a good ground to build a reliable consumer base when a huge chunk of that is going to rent, utilities, car payments, and student loans.
“Masking privilege” for autistic people reminds me of “straight passing privilege” for queer couples or “cis passing privilege” for trans people. As soon as other people find out that you’re autistic, or queer, or trans, you no longer have that privilege, so why say you have it at all?
It’s not a privilege to work myself to death in a poor attempt to fit in with allistic cis straight people as a medium-high needs autistic. I can’t really mask at all, though I can kind of “tone down” some of my more obviously autistic behaviors.
“Masking privilege” is bullshit.
Your best is what you can do without harming your mental and physical health, not what you can accomplish when you disregard it.

thank you for your support! sharing these for people who wanted graha discord emotes, if using it as icons anywhere else just make sure to credit me :3
So, there's apparently research coming out now about microplastics being found in people's bloodstreams and the possible negative effects of that and I feel the need to get out ahead of the wave of corporate sponsored "be sure to recycle your bottles!" or "ban glitter!" campaigns and remind everyone: It's fishing nets. It's fishing nets. It is overwhelming fishing nets It always has been fishing nets. Unless regulations are changed, it will continue to be fishing nets. The plastic in the ocean in largely discarded nets from industrial fishing. The microplastics are the result of these nets breaking down. The "trash islands" are also, you guessed it. Mostly fishing nets and other discarded fishing industry equipment. Do not allow them to continue to twist the story. Do not come after disabled people who require single use plastics. Do not come after people using glitter in art projects and makeup. These things make up a negligible amount of the issue compared to corporate waste, specifically in the fishing industry. Do not let them shift the blame to the individual so they can continue to destroy the planet and our bodies without regulation.
Industries are incredibly resistant to taking responsibility for their own waste, to the point where “consumers are responsible for industrial waste” is somehow considered a sensible, ethical, worthy sentence.
It is actually perfectly reasonable to say that “industries are responsible for industrial waste” and “the effects of industry can, should and must be fixed by industry” and “Industry can, should and must be held responsible for its impacts on the commons, such as air, water, oceans and land.”
You people realize the body positivity movement is literally a political movement right. Like it's a movement that was started to improve the rights of fat people and stop discrimination against fat people. You realize that. It's not a tea party where everyone just compliments everyone else on their looks.
One time I was teaching undergrads and we were talking about how you can even define what is "fair" in employment. And I was explaining how there have been court cases about employers forcing their employees to wear makeup or do their hair/nails, etc, so of course we end up talking about flight attendants. And my students, predictably, are like, "Well ok but in the case of flight attendants, being good looking is literally just part of the job description." So I point out how applying this principle universally would basically make it so that any employer could refuse to hire someone who was fat or ugly. And That One Kid was like, "Well if it affects the business's ability to make money, I mean, that's just smart." And so I say, "Yes, that is certainly what a capitalist would say. But don't you think that allowing that capitalist interest to take precedence would lead to a world in which it's legally permissible to refuse to hire someone just because they're fat or ugly? Basically legalizing discrimination and blocking access to work and livelihood?" And this motherfucker is like, "Well, yeah. 💁🏻"
When I tell you I almost had to leave...I was full-body shaking and afterward, my queer students came up and were like, "omg are you okay?"
So yeah, it's fucking political. What you think is about personal aesthetic preference is actually oppressing huge groups of people, so.
This is a fascinating example because I actually am a flight attendant, and no the fuck it isn't a part of my job description to "be good looking." It hasn't been since the 60s. We're literally first responders. Should your ER nurse have to wear makeup in order to save your life?
rejoice, for we will free you from the cruel yoke of existence
Of course autistic people are "self-centered". It's hard enough to survive. Oftentimes, we don't have the luxury of spending our energy on other people's problems. You wouldn't expect your neighbor, that survives in 20 dollars a week, to pay for your meals either.
