"Hi!", Ariel said, taking in the quiet of the antique shop. This place felt like a secondary home for the mermaid; she knew she could always come here to indulge in her interests, or just to have a chat. Today she was actually searching for something, though she wasn't entirely sure if she was looking for it in the right place. But this was one of her favourite places, so why not try?

"I don't know, I guess I'm just tired ? I've just started my second semester of university and now all the all-nighters are starting to take their toll on me," she replied with a small chuckle. "I was wondering if I could find something here to help me fall asleep better? Like, a set of noise cancelling headphones, or lavender bags - I'm not picky. And I guess I could just check on you while I'm at it."

Bruce smiled. That was the other thing he liked about the regulars. They were like friends, even if they were friends you only saw at work.

"Oh, I'm alright! Much better now that the weather is starting to warm up. I even went and sat out in the sun on my lunch today," Bruce said brightly. "But yes, I can certainly help with that. We do have some headphones in the electronics section, but I'm not sure what the quality is like on them, they're antiques at this point. Or we have some lovely sleep masks that just came in, I'm sure you could put some lavender in them and that would really help. Give them a try!"

Ariel clapped excitedly and moved toward the sleep masks aisle, without losing her focus on Bruce.

There were simple ones, in single colors, but she couldn't resist the elegant ones, adorned with small beads and embroideries. "This one seems fitting," she smiled, picking a dark blue one with small sunbursts embroidered on the sides. Another smile as her attention is caught by a velvet lavender mask, then a red one with green beads...before she knew it, her arms were full.

"Oops," she chuckled. "I think I'll have to make up my mind before I go broke...or accidentally drop them and ruin the vibe of the place. And I should also try them on but a mirror would be of no use...I guess you're my stylist for the day," she joked.

"I don't know, Aqua. From where I stand, you're an accomplished, independent mermaid, working her ass off for the things she believes in. On the contrast, I still live with Daddy and I have no idea where I'm going next," she shrugged, voice turning a bit sour. "My point is, you're probably doing a lot better than you think...when you're not getting into a fight, that is, " she smirked, adding the last part as a sisterly joke.

Aquata smiled and rolled her eyes, though she knew it was true. She would say she had been pretty good lately, but the whole Valentine's Day debacle kind of said otherwise.

Ariel, though, Aquata thought she was doing fine in comparison. Honestly, she was more worried about the potential for Ariel to get into trouble considering she seemed so worried about her life being stagnant.

"Give yourself a little time, Ariel, you're nineteen years old," Aquata replied. "You're gonna figure it out. You're too impatient with this stuff." Aquata knew she never would have taken that advice when she was Ariel's age, but that was her older sister prerogative.

Ariel blew a raspberry. "I just...I want to meet new people, and see new places. I'm not looking for trouble...it just kind of follows me around." Well, that wasn't completely true - there have definitely been times in her past when she got bored and sneaked out or broke a rule to get her way- but the way she saw things, it was just her curiosity getting the best of her.

"I mean, you probably get it right. I remember how pissed you were when you had to stay here instead of joining the national team. Don't you ever just want to run away ?

Ariel cleared her throat, jumping headfirst into the cold water.

"Okay, so I think I'm ready to start writing my own stuff., but since I'm a newbie, I kind of need someone with more experience to mentor me through the whole thing, y'know? I'm tempted to use the phrase older sister, but I already have like six of those, and a cousin, " she chuckled.

"Anyways. I know you're also passionate about mundus and magick stuff, which is kind of my current focus, so I figured you might be interested? "

Anna's face lit up at the question. Granted, it was a lot of responsibility, being a mentor. But she felt really honored to be asked! And wasn't the point of being an activist educating other people and bringing them along with you?

She had been preparing for this! She was ready— she had to be!

"Oh, wow!" Anna said, her eyes going wide with surprise (and excitement). "Yeah, I totally am. And I'd love to read anything you're working on! Especially if it's on the Magick-Mundus beat. Did you wanna get coffee or something after this and we can talk about it?"

"Okay, so," Ariel started, taking a sip of her Coke. "As I mentioned before, I want to do something to help bridge the gap between our communities. I was thinking of regular interviews with Magick and Mundus guests alike, if that makes sense? I figured it might help people understand that at the end of the day, we've all got something wonderful to bring to the table. But I don't even know where to start, or whether there would even be other people interested in it. "

Ariel looked around Tiana's Palace, taking in the sights and the delicious smells wafting through the kitchens. She had been here a million times before, of course - it was a well known restaurant for a reason. But this time around was different - this was her first day working here, as a hostess.

In fact, it was her first day working..anywhere. But she was beyond excited to start earning her own money...though it was also daunting in its own way. Knowing that she'd have to adapt to somebody else's rules, to manage school and work at the same time...she had seen her sisters handle these things before, she knew how exhausting they could be.

It still wouldn't stop her, though.

She spotted Candace, the chief hostess, and waved at her excitedly.

"Hiii!! I'm Ariel! You're Candace, right ? I think you're supposed to help me settle in. "

Ariel had been in the club for an hour, and she already felt sick -after one shot of vodka, no less. Her friends from university, who had tagged along, were doing just fine, but the mermaid side of her did not do well with alcohol. Hence why she was in the bathroom, trying to hype herself up for the next round.

She was just about to pour another round of cold water over her face, when she heard a loud noise coming one of the stalls.

"Hello ?", she said, getting closer, taking off one of her high heels as some sort of makeshift weapon in case things got wild. "Is everything alright in there ?"

Ariel sighed, leaning against the door. She had heard a loud crack and what sounded like angry swearing - how fine could the other girl be ?

"Are you sure ? I don't mean to pry, but that didn't sound very fine to me - and I would know because I'm on my way to getting wasted myself, " she said with a chuckle. "Hold on, I'm coming in," she decided, opening the door.

At the sight of the cracked phone and the other girl, who Ariel supposed wasn't feeling all too well, she couldn't help but mutter a curse of her own. "Holy moon goddess."

Bruce found that the regulars were much easier to help than tourists. Nothing against tourists, of course. They were the backbone of the business at Whosits and Whatsits. But the regulars knew what they were looking for and what they could expect; their questions were much more specific and useful. Bruce felt a lot more at ease when they were in the shop.

Ariel Triton was one of them. And, even better, she was a mermaid, and that was even better.

"Good afternoon, Ariel!" Bruce said as the door swung open. "Can I help you find anything today?"

"You think so highly of me," Aquata chuckled. All evidence pointed to her having lost her temper— many, many times over the years. Sometimes in private, but often in public. And the worst, of course, was when she thought something private was actually public. The point was that Aquata had a bit of a reputation for being a loose cannon. "Don't be like me, Ariel, trust me. You don't need that kind of drama. Just focus on school and stuff."

Aquata definitely wouldn't have taken that advice if it had been given to her, but maybe Ariel would be smarter.

Isn't It Neat? || Tariel

One thing Swynlake had that Taran felt much more at home in was the antique and trinket shop. He had left Hen Wen outside the shop per the rules but he'd gotten her a harness at Ruff to Fluff that he was able to keep tied to the bench out front so she wouldn't wander too far off.

As he perused the shelves, he found an antique figurine that reminded him of Dohmnall and reached forward to examine it further only to find someone else reaching for the same shelf (and perhaps the same item) themselves.

"Oh!" He breathed, retracting his hand. "Am I in your way? I didn't see you there."

Ariel had been too caught up in her own fangirling to notice the other person reaching for the same shelf. When she heard him, she shook her head, trying to focus on the present moment.

"What? Oh, no, you're fine! Honestly, I didn't even see you there," she quickly replied. "Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen you here before - and I come here on a weekly basis. Are you new in town ?" she asked, after taking a better look at him.

Ariel sighed, staring up at the ceiling as if it could sould her problems. She wasn't sure how much she wanted to divulge; if her sisters knew that she was struggling even a bit, it might make them think that she was still a lost little girl.

"Oh, it's going great. I have a lot of new friends, the teachers are all super well-prepared, I have other classrooms besides, like, my own room. I guess it can get on my nerves sometimes, but it's nothing I can't handle. "

"Anyways, that's that. What about you? Busy being the H.B.I.C in town, Miss Board Member?" she asked, giving Aquata a wink.

Ariel was pretty quick to move on from the topic, and Aquata wasn't going to push it. It sounded like things were going fine. Not everyone loved talking about school. Aquata knew she certainly hadn't. School was just a means to an end for her, a necessary evil that let her do the things she actually liked.

Plus, Ariel had opened the door for Aquata's favorite activity: complaining. She snorted. "I don't know about the in-charge part," Aquata chuckled, flicking her tail lazily. "But I've definitely been busy. I cannot wait until I don't have three jobs anymore. I feel like all I do is run around from one place to another. Enjoy free time while you have it."

Ariel made a grimace. "Oh. Yeah, I guess I haven't thought of that. I just see you run around being an absolute badass and think about how cool it'd be if I could also do all those things. But that sounds exhausting as fuck, and if I were you, I might have just lost my patience already. How have you not lost yours yet?
