The Hobbit movies would have been vastly improved by going the same route as the The Princess Bride movie

Just constant cuts to the future with Frodo chiming in as Bilbo tells the story to be like “that’s not how you told it when I was little!” and “wait, you never mentioned these orcs chasing you!”

And Bilbo hems and haws like “well, I didn’t want to scare the children” etc and we see the same scene get replayed multiple times with slight variations as Frodo and Bilbo bicker about the details of what actually happened

(And then we can do an extra gut-punch at the end where Bilbo tells the little kids “yeah, the dwarves were all fine, nobody died, they recovered from their wounds and went on to rule the kingdom” and maybe we get a glimpse of a universe where that happened… but Bilbo turns away as soon as the children are gone and stared out the window while he relives the truth all over again 😭)

The funniest thing in Doctor Who is when the Doctor romanticises human nature and how beautiful and resilient we are and then gets whiplash when humans actually do the stuff required to survive (rip each others throats out Lord of the Flies style)

Like he's literally Noble Savaging us and reality always ruins it for him it's too funny get wrecked you patronising first world alien

Sir, these desperate refugees are literally living in the final hours before heat death they almost certainly committed and/or witnessed unspeakable acts of violence and treachery to get here, can you please stop being so chirpy?

Another angle is that he thinks of it like a nature documentary. When a narrator describes an animal's nature, they always have some awe in their voice, as if they're celebrating life's intricacies, rather than the event itself. I think the Doctor is just Time Lord David Attenborough. Still weird to present it that way to his companion though.

It’s Still Just Me

A Spider-Man One-shot

He wakes up in a crummy apartment with the sun bleeding through a cracked blind, landing across a stack of laundry he swore he’d do yesterday.

Peter breathes in the silence. It’s heavy.

No MJ’s texts. No Ned memes. No Happy calling with half-gruff concern. Just the dull hum of a city that doesn’t know who he is anymore.

He slips into the suit. It's muscle memory by now—slide, zip, web. It still fits. It still hugs his ribs like it remembers him even if nobody else does.

And then he’s out. Swinging between skyscrapers like nothing’s changed, even though everything has.

He stops a runaway car before it hits a crossing.

He rescues a cat (again).

He helps a lost kid find her parents at the park and then swings off before they can say thank you.

He watches Flash’s new podcast talking about Spider-Man like he’s a myth— “We don’t even know who he is anymore, but he’s out there, I guess?”

He sighs and keeps moving.

It’s late when Peter lands on a rooftop overlooking the Hudson. The city sparkles beneath him, distant and untouchable. He pulls off the mask, runs a hand through his wind-tangled hair, and tries to ignore how tired he is.

His stomach growls. He reaches for his phone out of habit—no notifications. But the date glows at the top of the screen, too bright to ignore.

August 10th.

Peter stares. Blinks. Laughs, just once. It’s sharp and it hurts.

“Oh,” he says to no one. “Right. That’s today.”

He tries to shake it off. Fails. His breath catches and doesn’t come back down.

The universe really hates him, huh?

“Hey, man,” a voice says suddenly. “You good?”

Peter startles, turns fast—mask half-up, hands ready—but the guy’s not a threat. Just some delivery guy sitting near the roof access door with a pizza box balanced on his knees. Mid-bite, eyes wide.

“Oh, crap—sorry,” the guy adds quickly. “Didn’t mean to sneak up. Thought I was alone up here.”

Spider-Man doesn’t say anything. Just drags his sleeve across his face, hoping the guy didn’t see too much.

“You sure you’re okay?” the guy asks again, gentler this time. “You, uh... you looked kinda rough. No offense.”

Spider-Man hesitates. Then shrugs. “Bad day.”

The guy nods. “Yeah. Got a few of those myself.”

There’s a pause. The guy holds up the pizza box.

“You want a slice? I’ve got extra.”

Peter looks at him. Really looks. The guy’s not trying to fanboy, not filming, not even acting like this is weird. Just a tired dude offering food to a more tired one.

“…Yeah,” He says, voice soft and cracking. “Yeah, okay.”

He takes the slice. They sit there, not saying much.

The guy glances sideways after a bit. “Didn’t realize Spider-Man was, like... a kid.”

Peter huffs a laugh, soft and sad. “Me neither, some days.”

I know that Vessel wasn't originally written with the lore in mind, but knowing that the whole story of Dema and the Banditos is allegory for Tyler's struggles with mental health, a lot of the songs can easily be thought of in ways that correlate to the lore, pre-blurryface.

So, I've pieced together a chronology of songs in Vessel, and how they show Clancy within Dema before his first escape in HeavyDirtySoul

Ode to Sleep

Self explanatory, with fear tactics and constant anxiety playing a role in vialism, but playing them off as good things, reflected in the upbeat parts of the song.

"I swear I heard demons yelling / those crazy words they were spelling / they told me I was gone"

The bishops + subliminal messaging of the glorious gone.

Holding on to You

This song highlights Clancy's heavy mental reliance on vialism and how convinced he was by the bishops. Themes of suicide are heavily present in this song, and they're glorified by the upbeat tone of the song. "Entertain my Faith" is repeated throughout, showing that Clancy wants some real reason to follow this religion of vialism (This song is originally about Tyler's Christianity in real life, asking for some earthly benefit of his faith)

Migraine

Clancy describing his experiences in Dema, he feels alone in his mental issues, primarily because the bishops' methods separate people, and create propaganda for how happy of a place Dema is. (whereas in most views of Dema we get, it's quite an empty, quiet, and bleak city)

Screen

About how DEMA exploits the most vulnerable people with 'screens on their chests.' this shows that the bishops aren't strong enough to exploit people that aren't already experiencing mental illness.

Specifically Clancy realizing himself being exploited this way.

The Run and Go

A representation of Clancy's first thoughts of leaving the city of Dema. The upbeat happy music sounds disingenuous to me, so I think it could be interpreted as the bishops trying to lure him back in with happy thoughts, but it could also represent the relief he feels from even considering leaving Dema.

Guns for Hands

Represents, again, with "I'm trying to sleep / but I can't / when you all have guns for hands" how the bishops use constant anxiety and fear to their advantage in exploiting the civilians. Also the fear that Clancy feels as he starts to seriously realise how dangerous of a system he lives within.

Fake You Out

This is Clancy starting to seriously doubt the teachings of Dema and vialism, this song is the beginning of his journey to his first escape. He starts to realise how fragile the bishops' system really is. Also planning his escape, and how he'll "fake you out."

Car Radio

When Clancy is finally disillusioned to Dema and the bishops, he's forced to face his own thoughts and the consequences of believing in this cult "now I just sit in silence" in my mind, this song leads directly into heavydirtysoul, with the themes of his regret instantly leading to his first actual escape attempt (also car go vroom)

The remaining songs are Truce, Semi-Automatic, Trees, and House of Gold. I didn't try to attribute these to lore elements because they seem heavily rooted in real-world experiences, and don't really fit in the established lore, similar to some other non-lore songs in other albums.

So, if we do assume that The Line is lore, I have a more positive take on it.

I agree this song is Clancy to Torchbearer. But I don't think it's that he's "lost" (at least not truly) or died or became a bishop. I think this is in Clancy's mind at the very end of Paladin Strait right before he opens his eyes and/or right after.

I think Torchbearer senses that something is wrong/that Clancy needs help. This could be when the bodies fall after Clancy defeats the other bishops. So he uses his power to guide and projects himself to Clancy. In The Line, he says, "I can feel the light shine on my face". If he's talking to Torchbearer, this makes sense. He can feel his warmth and light. And so he sings/calls out to him. That gives us context for the rest of the song.

Clancy feels like he's failed because he faltered right at the end. After everything, he came up short here. So he's apologizing to Torchbearer. He feels like because he couldn't follow through at the end and he faltered. His anxiety spirals and he catastrophizes, so his faltering seems even worse. To the point that he thinks The Banditos would reject him. I have absolutely had that thought before when I struggled with anxiety. Sure that the ones closest to me would suddenly reject me for something I did wrong or not good enough and it spiraled out of control in my head. I think it fits. In spite of that, he's still asking Torchbearer to stay with him. He asks him to stay.

So, my idea is that Torchbearer does stay. He helps Clancy back up. Realize that it's not over. That he can try again so long as he takes a breath and his heart beats. He will always have the support of The Yellow. And he will always be with Clancy, just like his letter said. He will never leave him.

So Clancy is able to overcome that anxiety. And that's when he opens his eyes at the end of Paladin Strait. That's why his eyes or so determined and defiant. Because Torchbearer gave him the strength to push on through.

And when he opens his eyes, he sees Torchbearer right there. Nico might not be able to see him, but that doesn't mean he's not there with Clancy.
