the thing about fandom is it tends to thrive on unanswered questions and doors left open. space to make up your own bullshit and theorize and headcanon. so to an extent i understand why shipping Two Guys Who Stand Next To Eachother is always so overwhelmingly popular because like. well if you know the writers are never gonna go there then it basically becomes your city now. you're the giant rat who makes all the yaoi. i can't really deny the appeal.
In case anyone needs to hear it: Food is not a reward you have to work for, nor is it something you deserve/don't deserve. Food provides your body with the nutrients that it needs to function properly. It's not a luxury. It's a necessity. Eating is maintenance. There is no virtue in denying yourself food. Neglecting yourself is not an act of selflessness. YOU NEED FOOD AND YOU CAN HAVE FOOD, no matter if you think you deserve it or not. Eating is neutral.
Also if eating a particular food is the only way you can realistically get yourself to eat, then eating that is stil maintenance even if the food in question is ordinarily a "treat" or a "special occasion" kind of food. Struggling to eat is special circumstances.

as we all know, everyone falls in love once and only once with their one true love the first time, and if they had relationships before that they weren’t real and didn’t love each other, and you can’t love more than one person at once, and your friends and family need to be pushed out of the picture to focus more on your romance, and no one has sex with people they don’t love, and if they did, they’re dirty and they have to have hated it and the sex they have with their one true love after they’re officially together has to be better sex than they ever had before, and no one ever breaks up for any reason other than death, and everyone wants to get married and have kids. aren’t you fucking tired.

"I just find it hard to get invested in female characters" ok well try? You have internalized misogyny, as do we all. That doesn't mean you should just... do nothing about it. Try to fight the internalized misogyny in your head. Make an effort to analyze her even if it doesn't come naturally. Seek out fanfics focused on her. Find someone who's got girlblorbo brainworms and let them infect you. If she's genuinely underwritten, if the writers didn't care, you start caring about her- take the scraps you have and go wild with them.
I'll let you in on something awesome: The more girlblorbos you become obsessed with, the more the barrier between you and being invested in female characters breaks down. That's why conservatives hate representation in the first place. And obviously fandom isn't activism, but I think you should examine how you interact with art, and fight the biases you bring to it. I think it's good for you to do that.
No one's saying you are mandated to get invested in female characters, but it's a little weird when you don't even try.
I highly recommend developing a tolerance for polite low level conflict, not just because it will serve you well when employers or whoever try to impose bullshit on you with the expectation you'll fold rather than expend energy arguing, but because it will make you a genuine asset to your friends and allies whenever they're in positions where they're less able to fight for themselves.
the first and most important step is learning to stay calm when someone with authority tries to pressure you. take a breath, think about what you actually believe, and respond in your own time. if they try to brush past or talk over you, you can say "excuse me, can I think about that for a moment. I'd like to give you a proper answer." self esteem. you're both just upright monkeys.
Another great line is: "I'm not sure I agree with that."
You reserve the right to later say: "Yeah, I've thought it over, listened to your explanations. I agree now."
You haven't yet said you disagree.
But you've effectively communicated to the other person: "This point is not 100% self-evident. It needs more discussion or explanation if you are to convince everyone of it."
It also doesn't share much about your own viewpoint. It throws the ball back to the other person. Do they want to backpedal and say: "Well, okay, yeah, I was exaggerating. I really mean this other slightly less overgeneralized thing." or do they want to try to explain why they believe it is correct? Or ask you what you don't understand about it? Or ask you what other perspective might seem more compelling?
There are a lot of options and in my experience they all lead to a better place than just letting someone bowl you over with a point you weren't 100% on board with.
writers, instead of asking ai for help, you can always use your childhood trauma and repressed issues to help you with that fic

nastiest trick in the book is getting you genuinely deeply attached to a character whose name sounds fucking stupid in any other context. this WILL happen to you at some point in your life.

i love discworld partially because (and bear with me because ive only just finished soul music and im reading in order) death isn't tragic. sometimes its funny, and sometimes off screen it is tragic, but tragedy is always really the realm of the living. Death is...bidding farewell to an old friend and knowing with bittersweet, warm certainty that your paths won't cross again. it's loving and having loved in whatever way was yours. it's something that just happens. everything must pass and that's fine. we're all just along for the ride.
