Imagine Aro turning up to Renesmee and Jacob’s wedding
Like that’s totally a thing I picture him doing. He loves weddings and it’d give him a chance to “catch up” with everyone and try to repair his relationship with Carlisle & co and potentially scout for new recruits (seeing as the Cullens seem to be a magnet for gifted people)
Though I also imagine he would need a fair amount of fake tan and coloured contacts to fit in with the other guests
After a battle, Aro reads the memories of his guards to check who they’ve killed so he knows who to go after or have followed.
The Romanians, for example, must have left some of Aro’s envoys alive so they can convey messages back to him, such as their response to his threat of war. They must have seen the faces of hundreds of humans and vampires in the Romanians’ castles’ walls and the surrounding areas. Therefore Aro knows the face of perhaps most of those who were at least present with the Romanians at the time the war began.
Thus only Vladimir and Stefan remaining alive really does mean, truly, thoroughly, that they are the very last remaining people from their coven and its allies. Aro saw everyone who was loyal to them and killing them was ticking off a to-do list.
Now Aro knows everyone Edward knows, and the thoughts of those around him, which undoubtedly reveal other allies of the Cullens who didn’t turn up to the confrontation.
This is absolutely terrifying. Just like with the Romanian war, Aro could stalk or kill all of these people, having his eye on more people than Edward probably realises. He may have already started, to prevent a repeat of the Cullens being able to amass a force at short notice.
This must be why Vladimir and Stefan do not create another force of their own and opt to join another’s - the risk of all their loved ones’ lives passes on to the leaders of the force they joined, not to them.
It doesn’t seem like Bella understands this. Her quick willingness (and Garrett’s) to decide she may again stand against the Volturi in the future puts everyone’s lives in jeopardy. Not only were those who stood with Vladimir and Stefan slaughtered, but their families and friends too, and those who just happened to be temporarily in their castles when war came.
Bella has sentenced everyone she loves to death with some words
(I also have a post on how tbh Aro has been nothing but kind to her after he’s let her live every time she might have broken the law, notably in NM, so she should like him a lot more than she does. Her inability to understand just how merciful he’s been so far and to just talk badly of him and stand up in arms against him will be a grave mistake (and insult))
Santiago Volturi
We know Aro is a collector of art and history, but what does he think about humanity's biggest technical achievements - the invention of flight, the moon landing, idk cell phones, etc. Does he respect and admire us for them at all, or is it more of a "Oh how cute, our food makes such delightful toys"?
Put another way- would he have sought out a conversation with, say, Einstein, just to have the joy of meeting the man?
I mean, if that was his opinion, he wouldn't have been interested in the arts period.
Remember that Aro and the gang are much much much older than the Renaissance. Yet, thousands of years later, they're active patrons of specific artists speaking not only to general support for the arts but keeping a close eye on the scene. You can't really do that if you're contemptuous of everything they do/not interested.
Added to that that we see a very modern Volterra that Bella visits in which they employ human secretaries. That requires Aro knowing what the fuck a secretary is and thinking it's a great idea to use one.
The Volturi are surprisingly hip with the humans.

How did you and Hope meet? Well, let us start with the fact that you just arrived in New Orleans and you already got yourself in some trouble that involves the vampires. Hope was passing by an empty lot and saw you surrounded by thirsty and annoyed vampires. She felt the urge to help you, but before she could even walk into the scene, you have already broken the necks of the vampires around you using magic. Hope was impressed.
She walked to you and asked if you were alright and if you are new in New Orleans because you clearly didn't know the do's and don'ts.
She invited you to come with her to her house. There, she educated you about the supernatural rules that the city has.
Hope finds you so cool and knew you two are going to be friends.
She just wonders if you know about the Mikaelsons. Either you don't or you do and you just don't care.
When you met Hope's family, you weren't intimidated at all. That surprised them, especially Klaus. A young witch who didn't tremble when came face to face with the Mikaelsons? Impressive.
When you met Freya and Davina, you were like a child who met her favorite superheroes.
You and Hope are so close. You can tell each other anything, you support each other, and you protect each other. You are the sister she never had.
Klaus sees you as his daughter. No one knows about it but he threatened every vampires, werewolves, and witches in New Orleans; he told them that if any one of them lays a finger on you, they won't be able to do that for the second time because he will detach their fingers off their hands and feed it to them. And he will do worse after doing that.
Freya loves teaching you and Hope about magic. She has already shared with you a lot of secret spells just because she likes you.
Elijah loves to gift you books.
Kol is so nice to you, but he loves to jokingly tell you to do stupid things sometimes. He's like the devil on your shoulder. You remind him of Davina; his wife who is a powerful witch that is kind, brave, smart, and loving.
Rebekah loves to take you and Hope shopping. That is her love language. Sometimes, when you go to the Mikaelson mansion, her face lights up and she tells you to stay where you are. And then she will be back in a few seconds with some shopping bag in her hands. Surprise! Rebekah Mikaelson loves to give you clothes.
Hayley is both like a mom and an older sister to you. She gives you advices and always reminds you to do not be so hard on yourself.
You learned how to make beignets for Hope. When you feel like she is sad, you make some for her.
Hope doesn't want to live a life without you. You are her humanity. As much as possible, she tries to forget about the fact that she is immortal and you are not.
Anyone who wishes to hurt you must consider that they will have the Tribrid to come at them. Not just her, but as wells as an alpha hybrid, the Originals and their first-born Mikaelson witch sister.
You are now a Mikaelson. And with that name comes some trouble, so they promised to always protect you.
This is a Breaking Dawn Part 2 inspired chess set I made from polymer clay and two clear Perspex acrylic sheets for the board.
The process took several months both in terms of concepting and actual making 😭 Chess pieces are a pain to make and it’s hard to get them all the right proportions when you’re doing everything free hand.

some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

A young woman stood in front of the three wooden throne-like chairs that sat in the middle of the floor. She had heard the stories of vampires and how they turned. She couldn't bear the thought of enduring that agony for three days, and of becoming something so different from what she was now.
But she couldn't refuse the Volturi. They were the most powerful coven in the world, feared and respected by all, and to deny them would be a death sentence— although since she was the mate of the three kings, they would refuse to execute her.
So she stood there—in the middle of the large room, frozen and afraid, as they approached her. She felt their eyes boring into her, their cold, calculating gaze assessing her.
Finally, one of them spoke. "Have you come to a decision yet, my love?”
The young woman hesitated, her mind racing. She knew what the consequences of refusing them would be, she knew that they would be angry, but she couldn't bring herself to say yes.
"I...I'm sorry," she stammered. "Being a vampire isn’t what I want.”
The Volturi Kings exchanged a glance, their faces unreadable. Then one of them stepped forward, his hand reaching out to stroke her cheek.
"You don't have to be afraid," he said softly. "We will be gentle with you. We will make sure the transformation is as painless as possible."
The young woman shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. "I can't. I'm sorry. I just can't."
And with that, she turned and ran, her feet pounding on the stone floor as she fled from the Volturi's castle and the life she could never have.

Girl With Piercing Eyes, painted by Johannes Vermeer, 1663
In early 1663, the Volturi family commissioned the renowned Dutch artist, Johannes Vermeer to paint this portrait of the young Jane de Volturi, beloved daughter of the family.
It is said that Jane was adopted with her twin brother from an orphanage while the mysterious nobleman of the house, Aro de Volturi (yet another Aro’s in a long line), was in England.
Though, some think they may have been extended cousins of the family because they, like many in the gallery, are depicted with the iconic red eyes many of the family members are depicted with, Aro had no known children of his own.
It is said that the children had strong, distinct English accents in their Italian for the first few years of their tenure with the family.
Nonetheless , Jane was clearly a beloved daughter of the Volturi family, who, though intensely private, were said to be as charitable as the Medici’s.
You may have noticed that this painting was commissioned just a few years before Vermeer completed his pièce de résistance, Girl With A Pearl Earring. It is said that this portrait of Jane may have been the inspiration behind Vermeer’s masterwork.
“Aro made me sit there for hours but I did it because Sulpicia let me use by abilities on him once” Jane added cooly.
“Yeah it was pretty funny, Demetri and Afton pretended to be so concerned and helpful when he keeled over,” Alec concurred. “We were all like ‘oh no are you okay!’ and he was all like ‘oh my! My apologies! I have no idea what came over me.”
