@arrowbrekker
Tis my birthday 🤷♀️
Hey my lovely followers, so I have a podcast, the next episode is up tomorrow and i’d really appreciate it if you could check it out. It means the world to me.
Listen to Positively Confused on Spotify. Welcome to Positively Confused, a comedy podcast where we talk anything and everything current in
I keep wanting to add onto tumblr posts, but my brain is just like:
Mmm maybe next time REBLOG.
and then I never get to add my little comments to my reblogs and honestly I think it’s highly offensive.
out blazing
… a trail for the other pioneers. tomorrow we head west, in search of fame and fortune. the oregon trail beckons us forth. on ye oxen and ye settlers, let us claim our destiny
drained of blood, the heart is white
No, that is NOT what this is. You’ve taken an amazing medical invention, a total game changer, and made up some stupid, faux-deep sentence fragment for it that is a complete falsehood. You should be embarrassed and ashamed, honestly.
This is a ghost heart. What they’ve done is taken a pig heart and stripped it down to, basically, a cell framework that they can use to BUILD A NEW HEART UPON. You could inject stem cells into this framework so that a newly formed personalized heart can be transplanted into a donor with a significantly reduced chance of rejection. FUCKING AMAZING. It’s not been done with human tissue yet, but the promise this given to people who need hearts - or kidneys or livers or whatever - is beautiful. Science is beautiful.
And it’s IMPERATIVE to mention that a woman, Doris Taylor, at the Texas Heart Institute developed this. And she started with a rat heart and worked up to he bigger, more complex (and more human) pig heart. What a total bad ass.
So look, quit making shit up, learn to do a reverse image search on stuff you find on the internet, and STOP ERASING WOMEN IN SCIENCE.
Reblogging for:
The corrected information
WOMEN IN SCIENCE
The fact that rejection rate would be LESS which is VITAL

To be honest ghost heart sounds way more badass then a drained heart
Very cool and thank you for the correct information. I’m going to go write fiction about a ghost heart.
Always reblog
As a former zookeeper we would hear this a lot. “If you don’t study hard you’ll end up cleaning poop for a living.” It’s the one time we’re allowed to go off on the visitors. I once heard my boss rant for five minutes at a lady, in front of her kids, about how he had a Master’s degree, how people literally worked there for free, and how dare she judge people without bothering to know anything about them. Later that day his boss came by and said, roughly, “She told us what happened. Thanks for not throwing anything this time.”
I can count on one hand the amount of times I have gone off on people, but employment snobbery gives me the rage. I was showing the new kid how to use the fry scoop at McDonald’s “.. like this, and then just sort of hold it perpendicular and give it one tap..”
And the new kid sniggered “isn’t perpendicular a bit of a big word for McDonald’s?”
Something in me was just so annoyed by this 16yr old who was learning to work right next to me and somehow felt above us? Fuck that shit. I pointed at the people just on the floor and went off, “she’s a 4th year law student, she’s the primary career for her terminally ill daughter, he raises 100,000 for charity every year, she manages 3 stores and more than £16mil in turnover a year. What the fuck do you do?”
He just sort of mumbled “I didn’t know”
“you shouldn’t have to know, you’re not better than us. So. You tap it once and then move it here to release…”
“I didn’t know.”
“You shouldn’t have to know,”
This.
freshman year of college I (a simple lesbian) met a gay dude and we instantly clicked and started talking about our childhoods and stuff and discovered we were born in the same hospital on the same day so we became each other's beards and watched hentai together every weekend
That sentence started and ended in very different places
me then (young, naive): i dont swear because there are better choices to make with my vocabulary
me now (older, wiser): I am master of all the words, and fuck is the best one
Well my week has been exciting so far.
I had some other work to do this morning (Figuring out some algae stuff involving 1000 L mesocosm up a mountain) so mystery species has been sitting alone in the lab all morning…..
Made it up to the lab today to find this. It’s probably from the fridge defrosting and not the creepy “algae”.
June 13th Update.
According to a few colleagues it’s either a plant, an algae, or a fungi. So that’s been helpful.
After a day with some sunlight I think I might be seeing some chloroplasts.
It seems to like the nutrient solution I added yesterday though!
I for one welcome our new plant, algae, or fungi overlords.
I was about to say “in a sensible lab people wouldn’t waste time with this, they’d autoclave the bottles and move on” but on reflection I can’t think of a single bio lab I’ve been in that wouldn’t immediately go “ooh, mystery algae, that sounds like a fun challenge; let’s devote multiple hours to identifying it for no reason”.
I need updates tell me about the algae
The mystery algae/plant/fungi/alien is stuck in the university growth chamber. With everything going on I probably won’t get to check in on it until September, possibly not until 2021.
So by that time it will have developed what, writing?
God I hope so, then I can train it to write my thesis!
This entire post is the most on-brand biologist thing I have seen in my entire godforsaken life. The moment this pandemic is over these guys have another crisis ready for us.
Can we get an update cause this is crazy
Update: Due to the global pandemic, the algae has been left alone in a weird hidden growth chamber for a year and will likely stay there for another year. Enjoy that information!
Friday, August 13th, 2021: Yesterday I visited the algae. Today I am going to bring a preserved sample home.
I’m going to be in the field for the next 2 or 3 weeks but soon after that I hope to once again try to ID it.
Any botanists/mycologists who want to help out? I’m afraid if it’s not algae my ID skills are very rusty.
Here it is, in all it’s glory, after 2 years in isolation.
*bows before it*
I love tumblr, all of us just accepting that this plant, algae, fungi is now our god
You’re a superhero who is happily married to a villain. Both of you know each other’s secret identity but decide to not bring your jobs in your relation, things start to get chaotic when your teams find out.
tumblr is best app u just talk to urself and ppl go yep so true bestie
you fucked up
idk what you’re referring to but probably
You are every Super Hero’s worst enemy, not because you are particularly powerful, but because nothing you do is technically illegal… you’re just a huge asshole.
