Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes
The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog's author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.
If a reblog doesn't add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn't lose notes just because people spread it quietly.
Past notes will stay on the original post — we're only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!
@staff @changes I'm sure y'all have gotten absolutely inundated with feedback today, but I'd like to add mine as well.
Others have made the point already about the impacts to creativity and engagement within the site far better than I could, and those are far and away the most impactful parts of this change. But to address something that I haven't seen said yet, that concerns users from other sites that you're trying to court -- this update visually clutters the posts. They are harder to read and follow, especially if you're scrolling quickly. The new demographic you are trying to target will not parse these the way that they are parsed on Twitter.
This is not a change that will incentivize new users to come to your site. This is a change that will alienate the users you already have, and, respectfully, will not leave you anything to show for it. I have been here for nearly 15 years and have never felt compelled to give feedback like this, but: please listen to your user base. Reverse the changes.
I wanted to meme before the big day.
Not yet, Brutus.. not yet..
Proud to consistently make tumblr less useable and anti-user-friendly!
ITS MARCH YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS
i forgot to post this last year so im scheduling it to post march 15th 2024 (it's march 17th 2023 rn)
Having moots is great bc you get exposed to the shenanigans of fandoms you're not even a part of. I am currently watching the opera fandom try to kill Timothee Chalamat.

wikipedia is a gem
If I’m correct, this is from the article “list of common misconceptions” which happens to be one of my favorite Wikipedia articles
https://xkcd.com/843/
The whole article is a wild ride.
W...was this up for debate?
It's the first Tuesday in February, time to have a click around the Wikipedia list of common misconceptions!
