Scoliosis/ Identity

I’m currently researching for my school art project and was wondering if the tumblr worldwould be able to help me. The project is ‘Identity’ and I’ve chosen to explore my own personalexperience with having scoliosis by Decorating and altering the three backbraces I’ve previously had to wear due to my curved spine.

On brace 1 I plan todemonstrate the structural breakdown of the spine and the physical aspects/damages it has on the body. Brace 2 I’d like to show the emotional effects of scoliosis onthe sufferer and others around them and the last brace would be about the overwhelming feeling of relief, freedom and apprehension at not having to wear a brace anymore due to surgery.

I hope that the pieces will display the feelings and emotions endured by a scoliosis sufferer in an interesting and educational way that confronts and highlight the plight of those that are different. So I’ve made this post to hopefully get some others point of view and I would love to hear from anyone who has been affected/ had anything to do with scoliosis. Whether it’s from people who suffer from it or you know someone who does I would really love to hear your experiences or suggestions, opinions, really anything! Thankyou so much to anyone who feels comfortable enough sharing with me.
