Easing Into Metal Music
Here's something I made for a friend: "an informal showcase of some noteworthy tunes from the safer shallows of metal music, designed for those still learning to swim." And here's the listening guide:
@zoloteh-volossya Good question!
Artists with women vocalists on this playlist include:
Barracuda - Heart (1977)
Bleeding in the Blur - Code Orange (2017)*
the cost of giving up - Poppy (2024)
Bring Me To Life - Evanescence (2003)*
Pisces - Jinjer (2016)
I Fear Only That My Rage Will Fade Over Time - Harm (2023)*
Aurora - VEXED (2021)
GIMME CHOCOLATE!! - BABYMETAL (2015)
* = both women and men doing vocals
If you like Nightwish (especially Tarja era) check out Starbridge and Within Temptation. Older school is Power Symphony, Chastain, Warlock, Holy Moses and Morgana.
If you want to see more musicians of color on the list, consider:
- Living Colour (heavy metal, origins in the mid-80s, quite famous and often the first names that come up in the convo about BIPOC in metal)
- Fever 333 (rap metal with similarities in sound to RATM, currently active, very grounded in the Black experience and Black Panther-esque politics)
- Bloodywood (folk metal that incorporates traditional Indian music, a real treat in terms of rhythmic complexity, currently active)
- The Hu (folk rock/metal that incorporates traditional Mongolian music, very interesting incorporation of traditional instruments and folk singing, currently active)
As for more international stuff in general, East Germany has historically been such a hotbed of the industrial scene that I’m surprised OP didn’t mention big names like Rammstein and KMFDM. Scandinavia is a hotbed for black metal as well, though I can more understand that not making a list intended for beginners LMAO

you are soooooo sexy but you’d be even sexier if you renounced mind-body dualism
it's so funny that I started taking large doses of iron and got my period a week early. you liked that huh? can't wait to flush it all down the toilet?
i can't stop thinking abt this image
the abstract is like "x is well known" and there's nothing in the introduction to support that
I'm ashamed to admit it but I tried to stay off tumblr and my other usual distractions for most of the day and I felt so much better. sometimes it really is that damn phone
