hey so i enjoy making emojis. here's half of the ones i've made so far. please use them, if you like! (i've put what i call them in the alt text, and i think it's silly and fun, but feel free to call them whatever works for you.)
here's the rest. use with absolutely zero caution. (my names in the alt!)
we went from “just google it” to “just ask chatgpt” too fast.
people in my life, my friends, family, colleagues, they don’t say “google it” anymore. they just say “ask chat”, “just ask chat”, “let me ask chatgpt real quick”. like only a few years ago we were googling shit man
This really bothers me. I've been a big proponent of teaching younger people bigger things as tech improves (calculators make multiplication too easy? Just start teaching algebra sooner. The only thing stopping you is tradition). But here I think we do need to take a pause and step back to square one.
People need to learn how to search. If we do not, we are submitting ourselves to constant misinformation and influence of corporations. Different search engines provide different results. There are archives for certain specific fields. Every website and news station puts its own spin on things for better or worse. These are not quirks of the system. They are each designed to provide certain viewpoints, and this must be accounted for.
Something we don't really learn until college is that Google isn't the only one. And it goes beyond DuckDuckGo and Opera and all that too. For scientific research we use EBSCO host and SciFinder and Reaxys and so many others. And yes, they're usually specific to a field somewhat, but that's kind of the point. Everyone should be taught that there are general searches you can use to learn key words, and then you can plug those key words into somewhere a little more trustworthy to get the most specific answers.
Also opposite searches. So you want to check if Theory A is proven? Go for it. But if you see mention of a Theory B, give that a quick check just in case Theory A supporters are ignoring some important arguments.
Since we learn all this in college, I feel it's too easy to assume it's only for our major or career. But it's true for everything. And when you get good at it it's still pretty fast. Give me 30 minutes and I can fact check most claims outside my area of expertise.
the worst thing you can do is let this world steal your whimsy. protect your whimsy at all cost. don’t let these joyless doofuses steal your magic

i think censoring subtitles is actually ableism
It feels like a convoluted form of infantilization of disabled people. Oh, I can watch a horror movie but can't read the word fuck? I can watch R-rated films, but I can't read the word shit?
It's one of two things:
1. It's deliberate infantilization of disabled people.
or 2. The puritanical impulses of American society are SO Fucking Off the Goddamn Walls at this point that most able bodied people can't recognize the cognitive dissonance of a film saying fuck but not letting the same exact adult audience read the word fuck.
it's probably both. But fuck, dude.

One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.

Important rules for the "age verification" era of the internet that we're living in:
1. Do not do age verification.
2. If you have to do age verification, cheat. Do not under any circumstances give them your real ID.
The tool presents users with a 3D model they can then manipulate to, the creator says, bypass Discord's age verification system.
Oh no I dropped my link, what a horrible thing! Sure hope this doesn't get reblogged until it reaches users from the UK and Brazil!
And remember to not make a second account just to test out what works best when verifying your identity
