The Losers Club sat in utter silence, the only sound being Ben’s pencil scraping against his journal and Eddie’s heavy breathing. I stared at Bill who sat in front of me with his eyes glued to the paper and the pencils, he looked ahead of him, his lips parting slightly. Richie pulled his glasses back onto his face, Mike stared quietly at the paper, not sure if he was believing anything that was happening. I think Beverly was just happy to know that someone was with her when her father hurt her. Ben had his tongue sticking out of his mouth while he scribbled everything that was happening, and Stanley was running his hands through his curls.
“H-How?”. Bill asked me, it was funny, someone asking me something, it’s been years since anyone has even known about my existence let alone talk to me. I brushed a piece of my (H/C) hair out of my face and looked at my feet and closed my eyes. This is what I did last time I showed someone. I remember I was sitting on Sandra’s bed and it felt like she was looking right at me, I could tell that she didn’t really believe that I was talking to her but when I showed myself to her she went crazy.
“She’s taking an awfully long time, think she’s nervous to meet this hunk ‘o’ spunk?”. Richie asked, flexing his arms with a confident smirk. Eddie and Stanley rolled their eyes at the same time and a chorus of ‘shut up, Richie’s were murmured in the all-too-confident boy’s direction.
“If anything, I think she’d be nervous to even show herself”. Mike suggested with a shrug, I laughed slightly and shut my eyes tighter, all I had to do in order to show myself was to think back to the day I died and try to reconnect with my body, it was a strange way to do it but it has worked for me. I wouldn’t be shown as a chewed up, mutilated body I would be shown as who I was before, just more transparent and glow-y.

“HOLY SHIT!”
“WHAT THE FUCK?!”
“Oh shit…”
“OH MY GOD”
“In the name of the father and of the son–”
“WOAHHH!”
“Y-YOU’RE RE-RE-REAL?!”
The sight before me when I opened my eyes was one like no other, Eddie was clinging to Richie’s side like a leach, Mike had his hands pressed together against his lips, eyes wider than planets, Beverly had the biggest smile on her face and was holding her hands up to her mouth, Stanley held a stick out towards me and had a rock in the other hand, Ben looked so excited and pulled out a Polaroid camera and tried taking photos. Bill… Bill sat there staring at me in utter shock, his eyes were wide, his lips were parted and his chest completely still.
“Hi…”. I said suddenly. Eddie let out a small scream which earned a slap to the side of the head from Richie, I wasn’t sure what else to say, I mean what do you say? Hello, I’ve been dead for 27 years… Wanna be friends? Oh hi, all I’m a ghost and wish to befriend you! No. That’s dumb. There was a heavy silence and a lot of wide eyes.
“Can… Can we touch you?”. Beverly asked, edging closer to me. Her boots scraped across the stone, pushing gravel out in front of her. She bent down a few centimeters away from me, she reached out her small hand towards my knee, her hand dropped and made contact with my knee, sending chills from my knee through my body. “Woah, that felt so weird”.
“Wow, you’re a lot hotter than I thought”. Richie added.
“Ca-ca-can you shut the f-f-fuck up?”. Bill asked, raising an eyebrow and turning his head towards him.
“Thanks, Richie”. I laughed, Bill’s head snapped towards me like he had never heard the voice of a girl before. I smiled and bit my lip slightly. It’s felt like years since I’ve laughed and had anything to laugh at, Richie was the main source of laughter when I first met them, and I couldn’t get enough. I couldn’t get enough of Mike’s stories, Eddie’s rambling, Richie’s jokes, Beverly’s kind heart, Ben’s nerd-talk, Stanley’s silent humour, and I could not get enough of Bill.
I don’t remember how or when I started liking him, all I remember doing is admiring him from a safe distance, the way he was so kind to others, so gentle with his friends but won’t take anyone’s shit, he was a true leader and a true friend. And I knew I couldn’t have him.
And it hurt.
“Y-Y-Your laugh is s-so cute”. Bill mumbled with a small smile. I blushed a bright red which was actually the worst thing if you were a ghost because my whole aura would turn red or a light shade of rosy pink.
“Awww she’s all red!”. Beverly commented as I slammed my head into my hands.
“Let’s throw aside the ‘cuteness’ and ask the real questions…”, Richie started, pushing Eddie off of him and wrapping his arm around his instead. “Smash or pass?”.
“Beep Beep Richie!”.
