i tried to add more but my graphic design skills are limited
was about to make a post like “pierre bezukhov was only 27? he should have been at the club” until i remembered that he very much was at the club
Second favourite book Pierre fact which makes me laugh in light of the musical.
First favourite obviously being when Pierre trys to kill Napoleon XD
i live my life being haunted by “did i squander my divinity? was happiness within me the whole time?” and the implication that every human person is divine and that that divinity resides within the ability to be happy. DAVE MALLOY WHAT THE FUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Declan Bennett singing this line while staring straight into my eyes has altered my brain chemistry in ways I cannot explain
guys does anyone else feel like the zest of life has vanished and only the skeleton remains? that it’s unexpectedly vile? like “i used to be better, i used to be better, i used to be better! i used to be better, i used to be better, i used to be better!”
Or even feel like, I drink too much but like, right now my friend fights and bleeds and I sit at home and read, hours at a time...
Managed to see Great Comet for the second time yesterday and my gods, it was just as stunning even from back of the circle!
Saved posting anything after the first watch (which was the last weekend of previews from the stalls) as didn't know if my reaction was purely "oh my God I'm actually watching my favourite show live for the first time" but nope, 100% this show is the most beautiful thing ever
Just a few thoughts under a read more in case, you know, spoilers
Sketches of the London cast of Greay Comet using the preview teasers
All sketched before seeing it the first time, when there is tome I have so many more pieces I want to create for this beautiful cast 😍
Study of May from &Juliet . Fantastic character and they have such a great storyline. Plus they look stunning!
Sketch of Cosette from Les Miserables from the poster. Got lazy and didn't do a background but the ink bit looks cool so figured worth a post
In honour of Ace week (slightly belated) here's a painting of Emma from The Prom singing Unruly heart using the colours of the Ace flag. Even though Emma isn't ace, the song meant so much to me when I first heard it, the whole idea of the heart doing what it desires no matter what the world thinks is a wonderful saying.
"And nobody out ever gets to define
the life I'm meant to lead
with this unruly heart of mine."
Okay I know I only ever come on here to talk about my random resurgent love of specific musicals but just. Come From Away is so fucking good yall.
The parts that always get me are the songs using multiple languages, specifically "Darkness and Trees (reprise)" and "Prayer" which both have that underlying theme of religion being international.
Now I am not a religious man, I have my own beliefs but they are easily swayed one way or another. However, the way the musical emphasizes and highlights that despite language barriers, a common viewpoint can bridge that gap easily. It doesn't just go for religion either, but that kindness. It took one act of kindness after another to show that words cannot beat actions, and your actions have impact.
I could rant for hours about Come From Away and how masterful it is
This. Come from away was the first musical I went to see live after covid and I tell you what something not different. After a time of people being scared and living in fear after losing loved ones, it just struck a new chord.
Prayer almost brought me to tears and as an atheist that shows just how powerful this show is.
Happy Asexual awareness week everyone!
Seeing Ghost on tour soon. May do a review.
Saw it a few years ago and fell in love with the powerful melody and use of screens in the set deisgn. Very modern yet worked really well.
Think need to start fully writing out reviews having seen so many shows now, even if it's just thoughts!
WHERE ARE Y'ALL??
Best album. Cannot stop listening!
Why I love the big grey cube
This is set design at its finest. Minimalistic but oh so powerful.
I'm a suckered for a circular narrative and when the set reflects that, it makes the show so much more haunting.
Gift for a friend. Great song, great quote. Great musical!
Leitmotifs drive me insane, like I hear *repeated melody that has an association with a person, idea, or situation* and I go *tears up the fucking rug like a dog*
That's the term of what I've been trying to put into words!
*Grabs leitmotifs by the teeth and shakes them like a dog*
