Introduction

Hi welcome to my blog, I go by Ashera and I'm obsessed with Seraph of the End (especially Shinoa and GureMahi).

I like to make edits, fanart, animations, and analyses of my favorite shows. I'm usually active on TikTok and Instagram

I genuinely cannot figure out how to draw fem Ren Shiranami from Tokyo Debunker. I feel like she would have fluffy, wavy hair, but this bitch doesn't even look like Ren :'3

I had an incredibly normal reaction to fem Jo Kongoza from Tokyo Debunker, I swear.

I know I didn't have to design this one, myself, but since I was drawing all the other ghouls genderbent before this episode even released, I couldn't not include the queen, herself!

And with that, I'm (mostly) done drawing fem versions of all the ghouls. I might still redesign a couple of them.

I've been wanting to get into digital art, so I wanted to start off by learning how to color some of my favorite panels.

ONS Chapter 153

So I'm going to redact my crashout from last chapter, seeing that Shinoa and Mahiru had a proper farewell. I have never cried so much reading a seraph chapter. Here are some of my favorite panels and thoughts of their interaction. I'll make a part 2 that's more focused on Shinoa's realization of what she wants and the shift in the dynamic with the squad after this.

Mahiru is looking extra pretty this chapter? Or is it just me?

This is what I had been asking for the past few years, I just wanted to see them spend time together. I'm happy that we got it now, but at what cost 💔

What I really love about this panel other than the fact that it's beautifully drawn, is that you can see the genuine love Mahiru has for her sister. After dedicating her life to protecting Shinoa, and after she has died all she wants is for Shinoa to live a fulfilling life. Haters can call Mahiru selfish all they want but never when it comes to her little sister 😤

This is exactly what Mahiru wanted for herself too. I'm so happy that she was able to tell Shinoa this. Also wanted to add in for the people who shit on Mahiru for physically abusing Shinoa when they were younger, it was the only way to protect her from being turned into a puppet for the First given their circumstance. Shinoa herself doesn't seem to take an issue with this, as in this panel she is acknowledging how she was under Mahiru's protection.

This is the part when I started bawling my eyes out. Shinoa saying that she wants to spend more time with Mahiru 💔 This is exactly what I wanted too 😭😭😭 THE HUG they're so preciousssss to meeeeeee

Shinoa crying is making me cry even more😭😭 I love how they drew this you can feel that she wants to spend more time with her. I also appreciate all the love, support and faith that Mahiru's giving to Shinoa. Shinoa really needed this from Mahiru and I'm so happy and sad for her at the same time.

Poor Shinoa 😭💔 gonna wear my shinoa bracelet to feel better.

I cannot belive Mahiru didnt mentioned Shinoa while she was dying and Shinoa didnt have a reaction. Family is the core theme of Owari no seraph, yet author forgets the sisterhood between two major female character of the serie. Mahiru is the one who hurts Shinoa the most but she is also the one who loved her the most. Thats what makes their sisterhood so beatifully tragic.

This moment shouldve been about them, about their sisterhood. With its bad with its worse, it shouldve focused on Shinoa she litteraly lost Shinya, Guren and Mahiru (people who were somehow important in her childhood, specially Mahiru) the same day this was supposed to be her moment. About her feelings. I am not against other characters having their own moments ofc but i am so sick of this stupid mangas male gaze.

Rip Hiiragi sisters, you deserved to be in a better manga.

(Also i wished Mahiru was more angry, everything she had done, sacrificed was for nothing. Cas16 Mahiru would have a breakdown. Let woman be angry)

Mahiru needs justice Kagami did her dirty with this chap. Talking about some "I found you and the others" she dgaf abt them 😭🙏 she only cared about Guren and Shinoa and should have mentioned solely Guren and Shinoa in her last moments but of course we need our lazy author to go and butcher her character for NO REASON. And Shinoa's (mostly) unbothered reaction 💔. All this cuz Kagami didn't wanna develop the Hiragi sisters bond. GOSH I HATE THIS. So much wasted potential. So much inconsistency i wanna kms im dropping this crap. I've seen people trying to logically explain what she said but no matter how much I try to believe it, it's still absurd that THAT'S what she said in her last moments. Easily could have said something along the lines of "I got something precious, I found you and I got to watch over and protect shinoa" EASY. You know what? I'm just gonna pretend she said this. She would have said this if Kagami gave a shit. Whatever.

When it comes to disscourse about Mahiru i usally understand both sides even thought i clearly prefer one. But this time yall are either just misogynistic or have reading skills of a 4th grader. Cause wdym Mahiru gets hate for this panel:

The Hiiragi family is nothing more than puppets for The First. Its shown multiple times, yes they have power over other families but in the end they are just puppets at The First's mercy. Also Mahiru clearly means "they are not free" when she says "powerless families". Are we forgetting Mahiru was a 16 year old girl that was born with a demon inside her and destined to die at the age of 16 ? Do you guys forget its was not only Shinya who is being forced to somene they dont even know 😊??? Mahiru lack the basic right of having her own body and making her own choice about her body because she had a demon inside of her. Thats being powerless.

Also if you insist Mahiru had power because she is a Hiiragi , so did Shinya (i dont think thats true btw). Yes he is adopted but its shown multiple times in ca16 he had power over other people cause he is Mahiru's fiancee and a Hiiragi.

I also saw people who hate on her because she told Guren to stop bitching and "made it about herself" ...

Because its about her! If Guren chickens out last minute its over for Mahiru. She needs Guren for her plan, she needs him for her freedom. Also she is litteraly his demon rn, she is litteraly attached to him 😭

Its crazy to me Mahiru gets more hate then the guy who actually killed Shinya but what i expected from fandom of hating women and fetishising gay men 💔

looking at the commotion in the tags, it seems the remaining ons stans are also guilty of shipper bias. hating on mahiru for being a yapper is one thing but to say she's making shinya's death about herself is plain hypocritical. cuz isn't guren doing the exact same thing lmao?

yeah this is.. not it. the jarring self-hate aside, i find it weird how a death scene is lacking any memorial for the demised one. Shinya's death is a plot device, leading to what comes next.

This post is about fandoms' casual sexism but I want to address something deeper about the writing too. I enjoy this series but choosing honesty in reading the text and my own self awareness keeps me grounded.

Cue how Mika got the same treatment. Why is Yuu expressing his low self worth at a time like this? This debased level of co-dependency is annoying and needs to be worked on but the author is a strange man we all know. Yuu getting over his meltdown in one hour (ch99) to slobber over Guren's feet is further insult to Mika btw. What a horribly written mc and shit bestie, but because of allegiance to sexism, fans have to hate on Shinoa instead 🏃

For all that sympathy highlighted in the manga, Yuu severely lacks in the empathy department. Sticking to his obsequious devotion to Guren, he betrays Mika by not feeling jilted or feigning offense on his dead family's behalf. There's an entitlement he exerts in his dynamic with Mika which is very toxic too I should say. Even then he (and guren) resorts to self flagellation because of *pulls out plot convenient excuse* low self esteem developed due to traumatic childhood. You'd find this in any and every manga so shit's generic as hell.

Main point, the characterization of these two is laced with narcissism (kagami has some really flawed philosophy). There's one thing about being likeable but then there's this elevation which renders your closest companions to be your glazers and cheerleaders instead of equals. Kureto and Kimizuki are punished to the background because they dare to address their MCs with disrespect, so the deep male friendship kagami promised to show us is with the subservient guard dogs. It's why Shinya is not allowed to properly confront or rightfully defect from his bestie as the writing team has to depict him as a worrying housewife instead? Why is Mika narratively stitched onto Yuu as some helicopter parent doting on their infant? Why are these two supposed to show unconditional loyalty but stuck with plot dependence as a mark of epic bromance but Yuu/Guren get the privilege of being active participants of the bigger picture and receive more meaningful dynamics with others?

See, there truly is hypocrisy to address (among fans) in how the bishie besties' weak writing is shown leniency while the hiragi sisters are crucified for hmm being just like the former. Why is Shinoa's love (shed light on since chapter 14) invalidated and dismissed under faux alarm of misogyny while Mika's whole character getting revolved around "Yuu-chan" (reducing him into a slobbering pet dog, not some canon lover designation btw) is fawned over? "bUt eeT geh" your ship is bottom of the barrel queerslop which is thankfully been getting the no-homo clause for months now so have some shame and grow some standards in the meantime. Every complain on Shinoa I've found on the internet is actually quadruple applied to Mika but ofc misogyny is allowed when you all make an mlm ship the primary focal point of your reading comprehension.

Guide me on how to address a fandom-turned-cult that their engagement with the manga is in poor taste. Look, battle shonen is male centric and apt to this category, will rarely give you satisfying female characters, it all depends on your personal preferences though. You knew what you signed up for when you picked up OnS but there comes a limit to carelessly repeating how "kagami is a misogynist" when the actual problem is you might be miserable by choice and too fussy. Take a deep breath and relax, truth is this classic shonenslop is Not For You. Cuz bad news kiddos but the bois are ALSO poorly written, which naturally seeps on their female counterparts. This is one of those mangas where complains of gender discrimination don't fully apply btw; women being in love isn't a bad thing but men being emotionally stunted in response to them is however.

Yes, we have the token complex characters in the names of Guren and Ferid but that's it. Ok, Mahiru and Krul are multifaceted, there I said it. However, we seriously can't say the same for Yuu, Shinya, Mika, Crowley, Asheramaru etc. who're mere blank canvases. It's insane how the two main boys aren't ever given any room to be fleshed out under consistent development; blank canvas is meant to be projected on afterall. This is how Kagami takes advantage in switching up their personas every 20+ chapters or so, making their actions look forced and nonsensical in hindsight.

What's truly funny to me is that for all the desperate effort in comparing Mahiru with Mika (for ship validation again as always) it's insane how one is casually demonized as a bitch while the other, more blander variant yet a boy now, is adored as some uwu baby/malchik gay. Face it, a lot of yall conjure up delusional headcanons to make this 1 dimensional egg white more likeable anyways, but inability to do the same for the girls.. there's only so much you can blame on kagami when it's a more subjective bias at work here.

The overwhelming love for Mika compared to the hatred toward the Hiragi sisters in this fandom will always piss me off. They get dragged for "revolving around a male character" when Mika does exactly that TENFOLD. But it's fine, apparently, because yayy mikayuu mlm, right? What’s worse is that these same fans will disguise their misogyny as feminism. They'll constantly whine about the author being a misogynist, say that the sisters' writing is terrible, and will act as if they're the worst representation of women ever. Meanwhile they completely ignore the fact that MIKA, does everything they hate Shinoa and Mahiru for, AND THEY PRAISE HIM FOR IT 😭

The main argument against Shinoa and Mahiru’s writing is that they “revolve around the men”, and have “no substance.” What if I said that it’s actually the contrary (🤓). Let's be real, Mahiru and Shinoa have both accomplished more outside of their love lives than Mika ever has. Mahiru has her own goals and ambitions which we've seen her work so diligently towards with Guren. Not for Guren. We’ve also seen how smart, strong and capable she is, especially in the light novels. And gonna state the obvious, most of her motivation came from wanting to protect Shinoa. 

Shinoa on the other hand has developed as a leader, has many admirable qualities, and defeated her number 1 opp. She cares about her squad, which we saw in her convo with Mitsuba and how she sees her as true family. The point is, she cares about people outside of Yuichiro. 

The fandom singles out Shinoa and Mahiru for being in love and then proceeds to ignore every other aspect about their character. It’s not that they lack depth, it's just that you guys choose not to see it because you have internalized misogyny.

What exactly has Mika done outside of revolving around Yuichiro that can compare to their feats? Yea let's power scale their writing. Sorry if I come off mean, I love Mika but the hypocrisy is annoying. Other than being a homunculi eyeball being, he tried to save the orphans. Got turned into Krul’s pet, saved a few humans. And ever since reuniting with Yuichiro he hasn’t done anything outside of him. Every action Mika takes is for Yuichiro. His only goal is Yuichiro.  All Mika wants is to be happy with Yuichiro, and to see Yuichiro happy. His character is literally permanently within the bounds of Yuichiro. And his fans will proudly say all of this to validate Mikayuu btw. So WTF is Shinoa and Mahiru getting hated for? It’s not even a double standard at this point because they will outright praise him for doing stuff they claim to despise (whenever it comes to fem chars). 

They act as if their hatred for these women is righteous and feminist, and then they'll go eating up all of the male centered content while saying “give us better written fem characters!!” Then proceed to hate on every single girl that arguably has better writing than their fave. See how ridiculous it is, putting men on a pedestal for the same things you beat down women for? The irony is insane, the misogyny is insane, and hiding behind a feminist pretense while doing this is insane. The haters will 99% of the time be oddly fixated on male romance, male characters, they’re just male centered. They completely ignore the women, and will actively nit pick on anything to hate. And this doesn't just apply to seraph of the end, I've seen it in other shows as well. It seems to be a recuring theme. Take Ochako vs bakudeku as an example.

Mika: “Yu, forget everything and run away with me!”

Fandom: “omg slayy mikayuu BFs <3” Now imagine if Shinoa said that…misogynistic, weak, selfish, no personality outside of yuu, embarrassment to women,  bla bla bla.
