My little sibling did the 'guess nhl team names based on blank logos' and this was by far her best creation:
My current plan to recover from my mental and emotional existence is to just go so deep into being insane that I'll come out sane on the other side. Being a chronic people pleaser plagued with impostor syndrome stretched me too thin, and that leash simply snapped and I am now a completely untethered, unapologetic vermin.
Fuck having impostor syndrome, if I'm not entitled to be here they should've barred the doors better. If I'm doing everything wrong because of imaginary rules that nobody told me about, that's their problem, you should have made your confusing system more idiot-proof.
I'm not here to please everyone and do everything right. I'm here to make bad art, chew on furniture, make people laugh, cook awful food and look at pretty landscapes, and piss off the people who don't want me to exist. If I have an unseen infinite debt somewhere that I can never pay back, I'm going to keep running that tab until I die. I'm alive purely because the universe is shit at pest control.
i never thought "i'm alive purely bc the universe is shit at pest control" would be my motivation of the day but damn this dude went hard

I feel like with the new ~fandom drama~ or whatever going around, I should re-introduce my favorite theory of fandom, which I call the 1% Theory.
Basically, the 1% Theory dictates that in every fandom, on average, 1% of the fans will be a pure, unsalvageable tire fire. We’re talking the people who do physical harm over their fandom, who start riots, cannot be talked down. The sort of things public news stories are made of. We’re not talking necessarily bad fans here- we’re talking people who take this thing so seriously they are willing to start a goddamn fist fight over nothing. The worst of the worst.
The reason I bring this up is because the 1% Theory ties into an important visual of fandom knowledge- that bigger fandoms are always perceived as “worse”, and at a certain point, a fandom always gets big enough to “go bad”. Let me explain.
Say you have a small fandom, like 500 people- the 1% Theory says that out of those 500, only 5 of them will be absolute nutjobs. This is incredibly manageable- it’s five people. The fandom and world at large can easily shut them out, block them, ignore their ramblings. The fandom is a “nice place”.
Now say you have a medium sized fandom- say 100,000 people. Suddenly, the 1% Theory ups your level of calamity to a whopping 1000 people. That’s a lot. That’s a lot for anyone to manage. It is, by nature of fandom, impossible to “manage” because no one owns fan spaces. People start to get nervous. There’s still so much good, but oof, 1000 people.
Now say you have a truly massive fandom- I use Homestuck here because I know the figures. At it’s peak, Homestuck had approximately FIVE MILLION active fans around the globe.
By the 1% Theory, that’s 50,000 people. Fifty THOUSAND starting riots, blackmailing creators, contributing to the worst of the worst of things.
There’s a couple of important points to take away here, in my opinion.
1) The 1% will always be the loudest, because people are always looking for new drama to follow.
2) Ultimately, it is 1%. It is only 1%. I can’t promise the other 99% are perfect, loving angels, but the “terrible fandom” is still only 1% complete utter garbage.
3) No fandom should ever be judged by their 1%. Big fandoms always look worse, small fandoms always look better. It’s not a good metric.
So remember, if you’re ever feeling disheartened by your fandom’s activity- it’s just 1%, people. Do your part not to be a part of it.
girl help I'm getting they/them'd by well-meaning people who don't know what a tomboy is
This feeling is strange and complicated. On the one hand it's legit quite cool that nonbinary pronouns are becoming more widespread! On the other, I've spent my whole life pursuing interests and hobbies and ideals that weren't seen as particularly feminine, and when I was younger this was a major source of bullying and stress alongside some generalized misogyny taking the form of "you can't do or be anything you think is cool because you are innately inferior and to do otherwise means violating your nature," and it took me a while to conclude that this was just straight horseshit top to bottom and I could do whatever I wanted and present myself however I wanted without in any way being Not A Girl, and now it's like the exact same concept has flipped sides and is coming from a point of theoretical validation but still calculates out to "that's not very ladylike of you, you must be something else". anyway she/her thanks gang
I think it's like. the understanding that the gender binary is a small part of a much wider space of identities is separate from the understanding that a lot of that gender binary is a false dichotomy that artificially walls off universal human experiences behind specific pronouns and while the first concept is gaining wider understanding the second is lagging a little, which means "I am a girl and I like doing boy things" reads as "oh I've heard about this, you must be one of the Others who don't do the binary" rather than "the concept of 'boy things' is stupid from the jump"
sir that is my beloved mutual with whom i have not shared a fandom since 2013
“We’re born alone and we die alone” you were born alone? Your mom wasn’t there?
"objectively physically attractive but in possession of negative rizz" is one of my favorite character concepts. i think it's so great when there's an absurdly hot person who's just a complete fucking loser. the mood is unsalvageable the moment they open their mouth kind of deal. you get no bitches because you're so sucks.
If you’re mutuals, and you like/rb each other’s stuff, is it weird to dm a casual hello?
Yes, leave me alone.
No, come say hi!
Secret third thing
Everybody loves Belgium <3 <3 <3 what hair color does she have???
I still thinking she’s blond….
i just think Anakin is the sort of person to get really really into conspiracies— I’m talking 5am forty-eight hours deep into a ‘the moon landing was faked’ binge but because they’re in space it’s more like ‘Corellia is actually hollow and filled with a little-known species of Force-sensitive moles’ binge.
Which means what I really want is Anakin, age twenty two and on leave for the week, accidentally taking a deep dive into a political conspiracy forum and finding someone’s ‘Palpatine is actually a Sith Lord and going to take over the government’ theory and because it’s Anakin, you know his first reaction is going to be to write a hate comment, but the problem with writing a hate comment deconstructing someone’s argument is that you actually have to read the argument in-depth and, uh oh, the person actually makes some pretty good points.
‘It’s fine,’ Anakin thinks, ‘I’ll just go ask Obi-Wan to help me write this reply.” So you get Obi-Wan bent over a space laptop at three in the morning, reading a fringe theory and wishing fervently that Anakin would stop using him as a solution to all his problems. He reads the post— grudgingly, of course, because it’s three in the bloody morning and we are on leave, Anakin— gets to the end of it, and realizes that kneelover69420 made some very salient points.
Obi-Wan calls the council at three in the morning and has to defend a fringe theory from someone on an Internet in front of the most revered and venerable Jedi in the galaxy. It is quite possibly one of the worst moments of his life.
no, you’re totally right. Because Anakin’s life is ridiculous, okay. He was a slave on an outer rim planet for the first nine years of his life, and then within the span of a few days he: wins a podrace, gets freed, gets adopted, flies a starship and wins a battle, gets orphaned by his new adopted dad, and gets adopted again by his dead adopted dad’s other son. So of course his baseline for what counts as weird is totally off-base.
Obi-Wan, who was raised in the temple and knows what the Force can and can’t do and at least somewhat how the world works for normal people, can look at a conspiracy theory and go ‘this is clearly fake,’ but Anakin? Virgin birth Anakin? Will look at a theory proposing that all water on Coruscant is actually distilled apple juice and go ‘you know what? sure. midichlorians exist, and all water on Coruscant being distilled apple juice is actually less crazy than that, so it must be real.’
Damn now i really want a conspiracy theorist fic/au. In addition to no baseline for normalcy, he is canonically 0-60 ride-or-die in all of his decisions. Not to mention the whole antichrist thing where his beliefs literally can alter the fabric of reality. And half of a Jedi’s job is breaking up real conspiracies !
I think its canon that palps was suppressing info about the trade blockade so if little ani was trying to space google what happened, the earliest articles literally would have only been from fringe news outlets. Oh dear. the Jedi suppressed the fact that Qui-Gon was killed by a Sith not a random darksider. His first exposure to republic mainstream news is that they don’t know shit.
You know that on half their missions growing up Anakin would wander off and come back convinced by ramblings he overheard about the Duke secretly conspiring with their sworn enemies to steal everyones pets. And he would be at least 50% right 30% of the time, so Obi-Wan has to hear him out. I just-
The ReTuRn of the SiTh probably made the rounds every so often for the last 500 years anytime a Jedi starts dressing suspiciously. Atlantis-classy conspiracy, you know. The sort of thing people with crazy hair talk about on the History Holo-Channel. So 15 year old Anakin bursts into Obi-Wan’s room and makes him spill hot tea allover himself and he can’t even get mad because Anakin’s hysterical-
“A garbageman saw the Sith from Naboo in the outer rim! He’s building robot legs and shouting about revenge!” *holds up blurry holo of a pile of trash*
Can you imagine??? Can you imagine? 5 years later. Not only does Obi-Wan have to deal with Maul coming back from the dead specifically to make him suffer personally, but Anakin would be insufferable.
