My pregnancy story. Prt2
Fast forward to 38 weeks I was 100% effaced dilated to a 1 and baby girl was sitting very low all good things. I lived 45 minutes away from my chosen hospital and therefore was terrified to go into labor at home and requested to be induced. We scheduled my induction for 39 weeks and 2 days. I started Pitocin at 5:30 am and my water was broken at 7:00 am my epidural was also placed at this time. My epidural never took the first time I was still able to move my legs but couldn't feel much after a few hours it wore off and we pushed it again, two hours later it wore off and the third push never took. I was dilated to an 8 and felt everything two hours later I was finally able to push. The doctor expressed concerns about my pelvis being too small but I was determined. I pushed for an hour and a half with no pain medicine and no progression, I started to convulse and fall in and out of consciousness due to pain and exhaustion. We ended up having to do an emergency c-section, sitting still through contractions while getting spinal is not an easy feat let me tell you. The spinal was placed and I was told I may feel like I'm struggling to breathe but it's okay. I focused really hard on my breathing and was waiting for my husband and the doctor to come in. I started to notice that it went from being able to take small breaths to total guppy breathing (trying to suck air into your mouth like a fish). I didn't just feel like it was difficult to breathe, I just couldn't breathe it took all my willpower to stay calm and alert the anesthesiologist through a fun game of āhelp I might be dyingā charades. They put a mask on me that forces air into your lungs and I was trying unsuccessfully to gulp it down like someone who hadn't had water in years. I felt the dark sheet of oxygen deprivation start to take over me when I heard him say something about intubating me. I wasn't fixing to be passed out with a tube down my throat and while they cut my baby out of me. I already was mad at my body for causing me to have a c section missing her first cry was not an option. So I mustered up everything I could in me and forced myself to take any air in that I could. My O2 started to raise and they finally decided to let my husband back and began the surgery. I was in and out of consciousness the entire time I barely remember her cry and don't remember getting to see her for the first time at all. I was wheeled back into recovery and was able to hold her and all the struggles fell away and nothing else mattered. I ended up developing an infection and had to stay a little longer than expected thanks to it. It's been difficult but worth it right now I'm sitting next to her and I'm just thankful she's here and healthy.
