Okay, it's been long enough - that Legend of Aang movie sucked.
I need to echo this sentiment that I saw someone say: exploring and expanding the narrative parallels between the Painted Lady and Blue Spirit is actually a Good Narrative choice. The way it is executed and stilted by the overarching narrative deconstruction, however, is Not Good. Like I see the vision, but I don't think anyone at Netflix has any idea what they're doing.
My hot take is that ATLA fundamentally just does not work in an 8-episode condensed format and so watching the live action with the same expectations instead of just going in and having fun is detrimental to your experience as a viewer.
I really like the cast and I like that they're getting to do something fun with a show they enjoyed as kids. It will never touch the source material, and that's okay. The source material still exists.
They're baiting us again, fellas.
