2 years ago I took photos that would change my life. I got nude in front of a camera I lacked any kind of confidence in myself, But I was desperate to change how I viewed my body. 2 years later, One of those photos has become a piece of art. My fat body has been immortalized as the very thing that drives my soul. This moment is such a full circle moment for me. There is a huge difference between Body Positivity and Self Love. And it's time people start to understand it. The Body Positive movement started in the 1960s as a Grassroots protest for humans who's bodies were marginalized and not accepted in work places. This included Fat humans, BIPOC humans, Queer humans, and disabled humans. The movement was rooted in social justice to make room for bodies that were deemed "abnormal" by society at that time. Self love on the other hand, It's about loving your skin. It's about accepting yourself as is, and loving it. When you body is already seen as "normal", you are practicing self love, NOT body positivity. If you are slim, fully abled, and/or athletic, society is already jealous because you are the "Golde Rule" meaning beauty is already held to your standard. I'm not saying one is better than the other. Never. Everyone needs self love. Everyone needs to accept their bodies as is. We just need to learn to call it what it is. We, as a society, need to realize when you take over a movement, like the Body Positive Movement, it takes the attention away for the real causes, the real people who need that change. Self love is for everyone. Body Positivity is for the marginalized bodies. Just sometime to remember next time you use a hashtag 😊💜 . . . . . . . . @PackAnimalCompany is changing how I personally feel about underwear, for the better. Not only is it a small local shop, (Toronto-based) but it's also a Black Queer owned company💕 The company started with underwear (let's also add that they all have packing options too🎉) and have just started selling sports bras. The bras have a slight compression feeling to them, which I love. Lots of support too. They are also extremely breathable and the bands are surprisingly comfy. The briefs are awesome. I haven't worn anything so low cut in underwear in a longgg time since they never support my tummy too. These do not fall down. I repeat THESE DO NOT FALL DOWN They make my bum look fantastic. Fat and sexy are not words society likes to place side by side. I felt like I wasn't allowed to be sexy or sexual... I was only ever allowed to be the cute fat human... Contort my body to look thinner in bed... I needed to cover my body... Lingerie doesn't come in your size because no one wants to see it... The lights must be off... I can't be on top because I see my stomach.... Loving a fat person is a fetish... This list could honestly keep going and going. Sad thing was, no one actually told me any of these things. I told myself them. Because this is what society and media taught me. And I'm over thinking this way. This past week I drove head first into this trauma.
