<<STRESS>> There is a brain+skin connection that exists that makes your skin worse when you experience high levels of stress. Typically this is due to the release of Cortisol (stress hormone) and Proinflammatory cytokines (molecules that signal your body to promote inflammation). This stress response can be experienced as a worsening of acne, eczema, psoriasis and hairloss. One of the easiest ways to help your skin is to decrease stress in your life. Here are the ways I choose to relieve my stress (instead of eating an entire batch of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies! 😂) • • 🙌🏾 7 ways that I relieve stress 🙌🏾 1️⃣Start and end my day with mindfulness, like meditation, prayer, or deep breathing 2️⃣Go to the gym or for a walk to recharge 3️⃣Journal to process my thoughts 4️⃣Write a gratitude list to remind me of my blessings 5️⃣Listen to motivating videos, and audio Books. 6️⃣Make time for self-care 7️⃣Set goals and boundaries to avoid burnout #acnepositivity #healthyskin #stressrelief #gratitide #mindfulnesspractice #selfcare #naturalbeauty #holisticbeauty #naturalskincare #clearskin #beautyfromwithin **Bonus tip: I also love talk therapy and Improv** 🫶🏾🙏🏾#askDrDJ https://www.instagram.com/p/CqW9ZtSNmAc/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

《Thankful》 swipe to see the supplements that I'm thankful for this "flu season" What are some nutrients that are proven to strengthen immune function? Vitamin C Vitamin C is one of the most well-known and researched vitamins that exists. Researchers at the University of California had participants of a research study take approximately 500 mg of Vitamin C supplements per day and identified that there was a decrease in C-reactive protein (CRP) levels after two months. CRP is a lab marker used to identify the presence of inflammation in the body. Increasing levels of Vitamin C in your diet may be helpful in reducing inflammation your body. Natural sources of Vitamin C: oranges, lemon, limes, mangos and, papaya, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and strawberries Vitamin D Vitamin D is essential to Researchers from Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York found after giving Vitamin D to a group of volunteers that they experienced reduced episodes of infection with colds and flu. It was evident that Vitamin D stimulates the innate immune response, which is how our body is able to fight off viruses and bacteria. Natural sources of Vitamin D: sunlight, fish oils, mackerel, halibut, salmon, sardines, tuna, dairy products, eggs, butter, oatmeal, shitake mushrooms, dandelion greens and sweet potatoes Zinc Zinc is used for more than 100 different enzyme reactions in the body. It has been show in studies that Zinc deficiencies play a significant role in decreased immune function especially in the function of macrophages. Macrophages are immune cells that help to engulf and destroy viruses in our body. Making sure you have adequate levels of this vitamin is essential to having an optimal immune response Natural sources of Zinc: soybeans, peas, spinach, avocados, blackberries, beans, mushrooms, cashews, pumpkin seeds, wheat germ cooked oysters and beef (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9qR62Nnpyu/?igshid=2e7cscqbzc2x

《BIG MAD》Don't be mad when a health care professional doesn't go out of their way to acknowledge you in public. In order to protect your privacy, I can't acknowledge you in public unless you come up and speak to me first. Even then, I still won't disclose to anyone how I know you. That is your right to privacy. So, the next time you see your doctor in public and they do not make eye contact or speak you know why! • • • Could you imagine? Me seeing patient in popular new restaurant: Hey ! What's up _____? How's that syphilis healing up? Now, is this your wife ? Oh! This is the "friend" you told me about. Have you called that counselor I recommended? (Side eye) Oh! and how's the cleanse kit going? Are you pooping 3 times a day like I said you would ? Hahaha! Yeah man, I told you, no sharting on this cleanse! So, what are you two eating tonight for dinner? I think I'm gonna have the Salmon. You know it is packed with omega 3s, which are anti inflammatory. You should probably get that too, it will help with that acne on your friends face and your prostatitis. Well, good seeing you guy. I'll see you in 2 weeks, right? You two take care! • • Yeah, just smile and wave if you see me outside the clinic lol. It's better for both of us that way. 😂🤣😂 #AskDrDJ just not in the #grocerystore #restaurant or #gym https://www.instagram.com/p/BuHfmziAUzb/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=vfvw542l9h3a

《LOVE YOUR HEART》♡♡♡♡♡ Do you want to know the #1 way to love your heart? Know your numbers!♡ ♡ Q.What are some symptoms of hypertension (high blood pressure) ♡ ♡ A. Nearly 1/3 of the people with hypertension do not know they have it. That is why it is often referred to as the silent killer. However, if your blood pressure is extremely high you can have symptoms such as • Severe headache • Fatigue or confusion • Vision problems • Chest pain • Difficulty breathing • Irregular heartbeat • Blood in the urine • Pounding in your chest, neck, or ears If you have any of these symptoms see a doctor immediately. ♡ ♡ Q. What is considered a high reading? ♡ ♡ A. When you have high blood pressure also known as hypertension, this means that either the systolic (top number) or diastolic (bottom number) pressure, or both are above what is considered the normal range. Here are the current guidelines for high blood pressure as defined by the American Heart Association: Stage 1 hypertension: A high blood pressure reading, is 130-139/80-89 mm Hg. Stage 2 hypertension: consistent reading of 140+/90+ mm Hg. A health care provider will likely recommend lifestyle changes and/or prescribe blood pressure medication. Crisis Stage: 180+/120+ mm Hg. This stage requires immediate medical attention. #AskDrDJ (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt43EtoAfte/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1grjtc6dbnykx
《MOOD 2019》Part 2... since I'm on this Eartha Kitt... When it all comes down to the most important things in life, sometimes we forget that WE are that thing we should cherish so dearly. I always ask myself, why don't humans love ourselves more ? I've come to the conclusion that we fear that it is unchristian, selfish or self centered, but I submit to you this. Mark 12:31 states that we should ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’... AS👏🏾YOUR👏🏾 SELF👏🏾 • • So therefore, it seems to me that loving your neighbor is predicated upon YOU LOVING YOURSELF! Ha! We've had it all wrong this whole time ! Everyone quoting the bible shouting " love your neighbor, love your neighbor " tuh... but you don't even love yourself...Do you comfort yourself and speak kind words to yourself when you make mistakes? When you feel like giving up, do you encourage yourself? When you are sad and feel alone, do you take yourself out to a nice dinner and a movie to cheer yourself up? When your feel afraid do you take the time to remind yourself of all the storms that you made it through and let yourself know that you can do all things? Let's get some health in here... do you take care of your physical body by giving it the proper nutrients aka Vegetables it needs to run? Do you get regular massages, spinal adjustments, health checkups and take good dietary supplements ? Do you go to counseling to help you deal with your past traumas so you aren't living in the past and missing out on BEing present? • • Look, I don't know of this makes sense to anyone and I dont know your story, but as for me, from now on I'm sticking to loving me! You are more than welcome to join me for the ride the only criteria is that you must first love yourself cuz you ain't coming up in my world half loving me, cuz you half loving you! #facts😂🤣 ❤❤ ○ ○ MARK 12:30-31• #1 Love God #2 Love Yourself #3 Love Your Neighbor As Yourself https://www.instagram.com/p/BtuZWuIF--D/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=80pbrqq52fnr
《LIVE》This is definitely THE MOOD for 2019. Living life, not creating problems for myself, loving, forgiving, moving forward. • • Will this be easy? No. Will it be worth it, YES! I love listening to the wisdom of the elders, especially when they remind you to listen to ourself! #motivation #love #liveyourbestlife # https://www.instagram.com/p/Bttv0bXlzZc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=oy0d95xb9l57

《PUSH THROUGH》IThis is what it feels like having gone to an HBCU. I not only recieved a great education, I was also blessed to have professors that taught us how to PUSH through! PUSH through against the racism and bigotry they knew we would face even in this modern society. I was taught that I wasn't a descendant of slaves but of teachers, scientist, kings, queens and engineers who were placed into slavery, I was taught that 40 years is not long enough to uproot the deep seeded roots of hate that was the very foundation of this nation for more than 200 years. I was taught that when everyone else could get by on giving 70% effort, I would have to give 110% just to be considered equal to the ones giving 70%. I was also taught that even if I gave 110% and be the best candidate for any job, I still would have doors closed in my face just because of the color of my skin ... and in that moment, I would have to just push through... no time to be angry, no time to cry. I needed all that energy to dig in my heels, regain my focus and find the next door. • • One day, I may cry about the pain of microaggressions and the harsh truths about discovering the bigotry of friends, mentors and colleagues but for now, I have too much work to do, too many hearts to comfort and too many lives to save. I just have to keep going and just push through! • • Happy Black History Month #ilovemyhbcu #blackhistorymonth #motivation #strength #resilience #honesty #truth #Repost @addictedtoblack___ (@get_repost) ・・・ 🖤 https://www.instagram.com/p/BtkpZscAazu/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ljv83ncdtheo
