Home Transition 1: How was that dream supposed to be a happy ending? All day every day I had to listen to that noisy little chamberlain yap on… Glad I woke up from that mess.

Darkstalker doesn't respect the autonomy of anyone

The worst and most flagrant example of this is surprisingly one that's often forgotten or overlooked for other things he did and it's the enchantment he places on Fierceteeth to become Clearsight. He luckily gets caught and defeated but what would happen if he wasn't caught or defeated? What would happen if after he won and took over Pyrrhia continued to work on his fake Clearsight, which is literally just an enchanted Fierceteeth, to the point where he thinks a fake replication of Clearsight is good/close enough to the original? He would do what he always wanted to do with the real Clearsight like rule the Kingdom together, get married and have dragonets while Fierceteeth is still there under a spell.

There is actually no way to defend this, even if you give him the benefit of the doubt by saying "he was just sad and after failing to get the fake Clearsight right he would abandon the plan entirely and not go through with it," that still doesn't change the fact that he still did actually try to do it with the intention of it actually working. There is no defending him for this, no reasonings Darkstalker himself or irl darkstalker defenders can give to defend or lessen the severity of this action. This moment doesn't get much attention do to how little time the book spends on it but it's horrifying when you stop to think about the implications of Darkstalker did and was trying to do.

That's not even the only instance of ignoring one's autonomy. The pattern continues with him it constantly puts spells on other dragons wyith out their permission. Examples being Clearsight and the enchanted earrings so she won't see bad futures, a goblet that would make Fathom forget about and not like Indigo anymore (luckily Indigo knew something was wrong), turned Indigo to into a statue, enchanted Arctic to obey, enchanted Vulture to obey every command, enchanted everyone to trust and like him, and the whole telling Clearsight that he will drag her kicking and screaming to a future he likes. This is only counting magical subversions of one's autonomy he also just does it with plain manipulation and he does it a lot.

So I don't know how to end this but crap like this is why I actually want Darkstalker to experience genuine mental anguish for everything he's done. Him becoming Peacemaker was too easy on him I need this dragon to experience non magically induced ego death and all the mental anguish that comes from it.

Sorry for the late reply!! But it inspired something to draw, that was the occasion!

No worries! His design is quite simple, I didn't put a lot into it but I'm happy how he turned out. Just Leona's haircut from his king outfit and some hair in his face. The braids aren't mandatory. But it's a traditional style so I guess he must have it from time to time. Like Leona, wears a lot of jewelry.

I really pray and hope he's kinda like an older Kalim (lol, Leona is surrounded by Kalim cause Cheka is the same XD). We only saw him in Leona's memories as angry and disappointed at him. But the way Leona describes him, he gives a "no brain" vibe x). I like to think his family is what matters the most for him.

An I insane or were the interscholastic games always described to be spelldrive only until book 8 changed it to be 4 different games

Oh good, I thought I was the only one confused by this reveal 😂

The first time we hear about the interscholastic tournament is in 3-15. Back then, it was described as a spelldrive/magift event for “different schools”. RSA always plays against NRC.

Based on that description alone, I was under the impression that this tournament involved MULTIPLE magic schools (not just RSA and NRC) and that it focused on + only had the single sporting event.

But then later, in 7.5-13, we are told the interscholastic tournament is actually 4 games total, in which 1 game is always spelldrive/magift. I guess there’s technically not a contradiction here since book 3’s initial description was non-specific enough to be reinvented or slightly tweaked if needed, but the initial impression upon a quick read definitely painted a different picture to me.

What’s also kind of confusing is that, in book 8, we get to see the arena where the competitors are welcomed. And?? The background is clearly focusing on RSA and NRC. A lot of the surrounding dialogue also gives me the impression that other arcane academies aren’t really involved??? Which is very strange…

I know that there will naturally be a lot of attention given to the NRC vs RSA historic rivalry, but there isn’t enough circumstantial evidence to suggest students from other schools are present and will play after RSA and NRC do. It also does not appear to be bracket-style; it sounds more like two schools are pitted against one another??? Which doesn’t make sense because if RSA beats NRC and there are also winning schools from the other match-ups, then wouldn’t there be multiple winners unless you had the winners fight until there is only one left??

Hot take here. I think that some people are making too much fuss over the Shroud brothers not being in the Big Hero 6 event. It’s about moving on. Yes the movie has loss and acceptance with Hiro and Tadashi but the movie is also a superhero movie with a superhero team made up of friends. Honing in on one aspect of the movie limits things. Minor thing also, the BH6 movie is based off of some Marvel comics. (Idk how relevant this last sentence is but I felt like it needed to be said)

I’ve already discussed the Shroud brothers and the fans that are upset that they aren’t getting cards for the BH6 LitB event. You can find that discussion here, as my feelings largely have not changed after the reveal that neither Idia or Ortho with be Rs this time.

I get that there’s a lot of commonality between the Shrouds and the Hamadas, but I do not think we’d gain anything significant from including the Shrouds when the previous non-Halloween LitB did nothing meaningful with its characters and the themes of family or anything else related to Stitch. To me, LitBs have always been an excuse for cute, silly fanservice, not an opportunity for the characters to get major development. And again, there could be other reasons why they aren’t included—for example, having tech whizzes around would probably eliminate or minimize conflict.

I do not understand the argument that it would be limiting to hone in on one aspect of a movie when Twst is guilty of having done this before for various events. For example, Wish Upon a Star focuses on the wish aspect of Pinocchio, whereas Playful Land focused on the Pleasure Island setting from the same movie. This is something Twst seems perfectly okay with, so it’s totally possible to have event A that focuses on characters learning to move on and event B that’s a fun superhero romp. Or maybe the two ideas can fuse and include both, similar to how GloMasq had an antagonist grieving and masquerade ball shenanigans.

Lastly, while BH6 the movie is based on Marvel comics, my understanding is that they are very different. The original Marvel comics most likely will not affect the LitB with Baymax event.

rsa batons + brooches, magestones, and customization

Yana dropped additional lore over on her Twitter!

To summarize:

RSA students hold a baton (think like a conductor's baton), not a sword, during battles.

These batons exist separately from magestone brooches they wear on their school uniforms.

This is to reinforce RSA’s “image”; the batons also have more visual customization potential than NRC’s magical pens. (We can see examples of this customization by comparing Rielle, dream!Neige, and dream!Vil’s pommels:)

Yana confirms that Trein wears his magestone as a brooch, similar to how RSA students do it. This style is considered to be a traditional way to wear it.

Crewel’s magestone is carried on “a stick”, with the stone dangling from its strap. It leaves a flashy impression. Yana admits that this is a nontraditional way to display one’s magestone. However, it does match Crewel’s personal tastes.

Vargas’s bracelet is also a matter of his personal taste.

Yup… YANA JUST CONFIRMED THAT THOSE ARE THE STAFF MAGESTONES 🎉 (Nothing confirmed for Crowley or Sam yet, since I guess those two don’t have visible magestones in their designs.)

When the student characters grow up, Yana thinks they will be able to design their magestone’s form more freely. It’s fun to imagine what kinds of customizations the students will have in the future.

Idia has a stone set into his skull-shaped magical device. (We see this in 6-54, when blot overtakes him.)

Idia probably also still received a magical pen when he enrolled at NRC (since the pen functions like a student ID).

… But Idia disassembled his magical pen and then pushed magical modifications to “the absolute limit” (which I guess means he custom-made that skull device using the skeleton + parts of his magical pen and put his magestone into that???).

Wait, did I get it right? Can Minajael analyse and dispel any curse with his UM? Could he potentially be involved in identifying Grim’s curse and possibly lifting it?

No, that’s not exactly how it works 😅

Minajael isn’t all-powerful. He can’t just dispel any and all spells, curses, etc. just by using Crystallize Clear. His UM only helps him identify what spells are in place. Once he understands the composition, he can try to dispel the magic using his own bag of tricks. Like every mage, there are limits and restrictions on what is possible for Mina. He just happens to know how to dispel a lot due to constantly trying to jailbreak from home, but is limited in his knowledge of the world beyond what he reads and is able to envision.

Idia hints in book 6 that there’s like zero information on Grim’s origins or the extremely old and complex curse placed on him. Mina would likely not have the knowledge, skill, or power in order to release the magic on Grim. (And that aside, I think it would not make narrative sense for Mina and Mina alone out of the RSA students to have huge importance in unlocking Grim’s secrets.)

*Note: A more direct translation would be “Over the waves, riding the wind, to the very ends of this world!” but I wanted to change it up a little. Either or works, they’re about the same.

Rielle’s UM allows him to repurpose objects (he can handle multiple at once) into alternate modes of communication. It requires the use of his voice; without it, the spell doesn’t work.

“*Don’t you dare close your eyes. Don’t be afraid. Now, release/break the chains. Crystallize Clear.”

*Note: This more directly translates to “Do not close your eyes”, but I took creative liberties so I could slot in a more obvious reference to this same line from A Whole New World.

Mina’s UM allows him to see all spells, curses, etc. cast on a target (I think it’s both objects and people?) and their composition. I’m confused as to whether or not he has the ability to “lift” the spells too, but Mina has a line where he says he cannot just eliminate spells??? So I guess the cancellation is just limited to his own capabilities, separate of the UM.

He learned a lot from the palace’s library and has to have a strong imagination to envision methods of escape and breaking spells meant to contain him.
