@ fellow mentally ill folks
the fact that you’re stressing over whether or not you’re “really” mentally ill or constantly stressing out about whether you’re just “faking it” is more of a sign that you are mentally ill than a sign that you aren’t because generally speaking? neurotypical people don’t do that. at most neurotypical people will have a minute thought about possibly being mentally ill and they’ll spend five minutes googling about it but then they move on and go about their day and do something else.
people who are not mentally ill do not tend to agonize over whether they might be.
people who are not actually mentally ill do not tend to constantly worry that they are ‘faking’ their illness.
people who are not mentally ill do not tend to put a lot of thought into mental illness—much less the possibility that they themselves are mentally ill—at all.
meanwhile, though, being in constant doubt about your own mental illness and worrying over whether what you’re experiencing is real to the point of it detrimentally affecting you is a common symptom of a whole slew of different mental illnesses.
simply put: worrying about whether you’re “really mentally ill” to the point of being distressed is probably one of the surest signs that you are.
