glo up tips (on a budget!)
SKIN
-aztec healing clay mask: good for drawing out impurities and getting rid of break outs. it’s super powerful and you can literally feel your face tighten and pulsate whenever you use this mask. when i use this on a regular basis my skin looks super clear and my pores are smaller. you can use it once week, but if you’re really oily or get acne often you can use it twice a week. be wary if you have sensitive skin though. can be found on amazon, health food stores and in some drugstores.
-moroccan red clay: similar to the aztec healing clay but more gentle. better suited for sensitive skin. very cleansing and leaves your skin smooth. can be found on amazon or in health food stores.
-witch hazel: an astringent meant to tighten skin control oil production. it can also help with acne & it’s a great toner. can be found in most drugstores.
-tea tree oil: it’s anti-bacterial which makes it a good spot treatment, you should dilute it with water or oil first though. can be found at most beauty supply’s or drugstores.
-sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil & olive oil are low on the comodogenic scale (so they won’t clog your pores) and are cheap oils that can be used to moisturize the face.
-the ordinary offers cheap serums, exfoliants and oils.
MAKEUP
-all the makeup on miss a is one dollar.
-some good drugstore/beauty supply makeup brands are: ELF, maybelline, IMAN (especially good for darker skin) ruby kisses, wet’ n wild, l.a girl, milani, NYX, NYC, hard candy and beauty treats.
-if you splurge on anything at all, make sure it’s your base makeup! you can get away with cheap mascara, blush, eye shadow, etc. but if your foundation/concealer is shitty quality your whole beat will look terrible. it doesn’t matter how good the rest of your makeup is. so invest in a good base.
-you can find cheap brush sets/ beauty blenders on amazon or ebay. you can also find real techniques brushes for cheap in most drugstores.
-you can pull off cheap makeup if your application is good, and wayne goss can really help you step up your makeup skills!
-if you’re using a super cheap lipgloss and it looks too sticky, mix it with vaseline to make it look more glossy and sheer it out.
-glycerin + water in a spray bottle can be spritzed on top of your makeup to get rid of that powdery/cakey look. it can also be sprayed on your brush to make a cheap highlighter or shimmery eyeshadow look more pigmented.
CLOTHES
-a list of some of my favorite affordable stores are here
-don’t be afraid to thrift! there are lots of hidden gems in thrift stores, you just gotta look.
-getting clothes tailored not only is inexpensive but can make something that’s $10 look like $50 if altered right.
-you can get panties for a dollar on miss a!
-you can get cheap bras & lingerie on smart & sexy.
HAIR
-never use dollar store shampoo because it can be really drying to your strands, but dollar store conditioner is the same as any other conditioner. you can also add a little bit of oil to make it even more moisturizing & give it more slip.
-tressemme is a good brand because it’s super cheap & you get a lot of shampoo & conditioner for the price.
-some cheap diy hair masks are: olive oil & honey, coconut milk, avocado and coconut oil, bananas and olive oil, egg yolk and vegetable oil, and plain mayonnaise.
-rice water can help with hair growth and can give your hair shine. recipe here.
MISC.
-shea butter, olive oil & coconut oil can be used to moisturize your body & can be added to cheap lotions to make them more moisturizing.
-amber scholl has great cheap beauty diy ideas and teaches you how to shop at different stores to find the best stuff.
-how to do cheap press on nails that look like fresh acrylics 💅
-how to thread your own eyebrows
so it’s like the first really hot day of the season today and I was walking down the street to the bus station. I’m wearing a crop top and honestly look fine as ever.
I pass these two guys and they whistle and one made cat noises and one asked “hey missy, where are you going dressed like that?”
and I was trying to walk past but it looked like they were about to follow me so I tried to say “back off” or “go to hell” but I was flustered because I’ve never been catcalled before and I said loudly “BACK TO HELL”
and they were just like “shit alright” and let me be.
