Vanity Fair wrote an article about the backlash that is still being felt about throughout the industry regarding people who had came forward about their sexual harassment experience. I highly recommend taking the time to read.

Will #metoo Change Hollywood?

my answer is: I hope so with all my heart.

To hear these young women come forward and explain how they’ve felt in the past on Hollywood sets or how the movement has changed them is inspiring! I going, to be honest, I teared up.

This week in MCO 435 we’ve been talking about Pollical and Social Movements in Social Media. One of the topics highlighted was sexual harassment both in person and online. This took me down the rabbit hole and made me think about the #metoo movement and how social media played a huge part. I’m pretty sure you are aware but if not the #metoo movement was about sexual assault victims say that enough is enough when multiple women came forward against Harvey Weinstein with multiple instances spanning decades. These accusations open the conversation in regards to sexual assault in the workplace with an emphasis placed on the entertainment industry.

I personally want to commend all sexual assault survivors who have come forward and will come forward with their stories. It takes an extreme amount of courage to speak about an assault that has happened to you let alone come forward and go through the legal process. I found a video on Vice’s youtube channel, posted some time ago but I personally believe it holds great insight, about four young Hollywood actresses addressing the movement and their thoughts about its effect on Hollywood. I highly suggest watching it to see more of an insider perspective. I would be very interested in seeing a follow-up interview with more people from the industry engaging in conversation on what has conspired from the movement.
