Yo this one is actually kinda fun.

There are a lot of really cool and interesting websites out there, LHOHQ, Thecuttingroomfloor, etc. One of these websites is notpron. Its basically a series of logic puzzles that get increasingly difficult as it goes on. I believe there are 140 levels? Anyway, its known to be very difficult and in my own attempts ive managed to get to level six. It requires the player to have knowledge of basic coding, audio analysis, all kinds of bullshit. Only about 100 people have ever completed/"won" notpron. (Source needed but only 34 in 2015.)

Anyway the joke is that im too stupid to even get to level ten, let alone get anywhere close to finishing it. Kinda like "Youre not even smart enough to get anywhere in notpron." If that makes sense. Whatever i missed out on stylizing the name as notpr0n. But i dont think even the game does that anymore.

So this actually isn’t my OG username.

My original username used to be robocranberry, which origin was pretty stupid, I won’t lie. I was sitting in History class, making a tumblr account because I was bored. I couldn’t think of an original username, so listened to the most recent lyrics of Symphony of Destruction (the song I was currently listening to) “acting like a robot” and was also drinking cranberry juice. Robocranberry.

When I arrived on Tumblr, no one wanted to call me Cranberry for more than like a month, which is completely reasonable. They started calling me Cran. It kinda just stuck. I got used to the Cran nickname and then a few months later decided to make it just my normal identity and remove the extra bloated parts of the name. I’ve also been a big fan of pirates and sea monsters ever since I was a kid, so I decided to add the Kraken in front of the Cran. krakencran. I went from a technologically advanced fruit to a big killer octopus fruit in less than a year.

Looking at it now, my thought process kinda make no sense.

The meaning of my username is... kinda FFX spoiler territory and will probably devolve into a long-ass lore dump, so I'll just pop it under the cut.

It's a reference to one of my all-time favourite ships, plenty of posts about them on this blog. The summoner is Yuna, the dream is Tidus... Basically, he's revealed to be a dream of the Fayth late in the game. For those unfamiliar, the Fayth are people who sealed their souls into statues, in a state of perpetual dreaming, which is what allows summoners to summon Aeons. And also what allows the continued existence of Sin, a creature that has been "defeated" a number of times by past Grand Summoners, but always resurfaces and causes mass destruction. After a thousand years, however, the Fayth have grown tired, thus dreaming Tidus into existence to break the cycle for good and be put to rest.

I’ve never played a Final Fantasy game and decided to give the franchise a try. I’m starting with FFX.

Tidus is fucking hilarious. I can’t tell if he just had ten thousand concussions playing underwater soccer or if he’s autistic or if he’s just nuts but this kid is in the top 10 characters of all time.

In the first hour or so of the game his home city, Zanarkand, is destroyed and he is rescued by some scuba divers and learns he was thrown 1,000 years into the future. One of the first things he learns is to not tell people he is from Zanarkand. Five minutes later he meets some beach bros and tells them he is from Zanarkand. He lost everyone he ever knew but people still play Blitzball in the future so he immediately joins a team. His has nightmares about his dad bullying him in front of girls. He immediately makes best friends with so far as I can tell, an elite bodyguard who kills monsters with his soccer ball. Sometimes he jogs in place because I guess he just needs to stim it out? He dresses like someone who graduated with honors from clown college. No one else in the past or in the present wears anything with as many zippers, charms, or different fabrics as this kid. His mood swings wildly, which isn’t great for him because he seems to have fallen for the most sacrificial lamb coded character I have ever seen.

This kid is fucking great. And I am so glad I am discovering him as an adult and not a teen, otherwise I would have found him insufferable.

All the little things in Expedition 33 that are clearly inspired by Final Fantasy X are so good and juicy, and after spending too much time thinking about it, between the two suicide missions our society glorifies to try to stop this cyclical apocalypse thing we’ve got going on, but are actually just a big lie that helps the very people who are trying to destroy us…the Pilgrimages are still worse than the Expeditions. The Expeditions are only probably a suicide mission! And if we succeed, we save the world (in theory)! Yay! The Pilgrimage, if successful, is 100% a suicide mission. And what’s the reward for giving your life? The world get a couple years pause on being terrorized by the giant eldritch horror thats constantly killing people and leveling towns. Maybe a few more, if we’re lucky! And then it starts again. That’s not even getting into what happens to the people who succeed in the Pilgrimage, because they don’t just die! It’s so much worse!!

I beat FFX for the first time last night. I didn't really like Yuna much at first but she ended up being my fave (after the wedding scene lol) and now I'm amped to play FFX-2 lol

The thing I liked most about this game was that the character dialogue often had like a second layer to it haha like ummm the characters were often trying to express themselves without saying something out loud, but you still kind of understood what they meant

Also I can't believe I had to fight Seymour like 4 times, insane lol actual roach
