I remember when 2D faded out, the reason studios kept giving was "it's because 2D is a lot more expensive to produce". I was a child back then so I didn't think too much about it, assuming it was about the process itself, but as I grew up and learned more about art as an artist, and gained friends who were professional 3D artists themselves, I started to question it. Because 3D is very different from 2D, but it's definitely not easier or faster to make. Also, both European and Asian studios kept producing 2D animated movies

The answer was unions. The answer wasn't "this kind of art is cheaper because it's easier to make", it was "this kind of art is cheaper because these artists can't force us to pay them correctly"

No it doesn't.

See, conservatives will paint this picture of failing rural towns compared to wealthy cities in blue states as some kind of "LOOK WHO THE REAL OPPRESSOR IS!" grift.

But... THE REASON RED STATES ARE POOR IS BECAUSE THEY VOTE RED!

Outside of convincing a hundred million people to move to red states and shift the vote, or start doing landback so they have no choice but to move somewhere the actual people live, there isn't really anything anybody can do about that.

We can talk all day but state governments still get to dictate 90% of the laws in a state. So a Republican state legislature will continue robbing the people blind and blaming the liberals for it.

We currently have a healthcare crisis in Nova Scotia caused by Toronto sucking up all the specialized talent, and everyone wonders what the solution was. Well unfortunately a solution is not going to come for the next two years because Nova Scotians made the critical mistake of electing the Conservative party, who have NO INTENTION on fixing the problem.

I live in a poor rural community in a deeply red state. And let me tell you, there are actually a ton of us who vote blue. The problem is that for every one of us that votes blue there's an old couple that votes red. That and extreme voter suppression. Like, most of us know for a fact that our mail in votes are thrown out and the physical voting only happens while we're at work.

But most of us really can't afford to move, or have our reasons to stay. For me, it's family obligations and refusal to sell my grandmother's land to a rich white family's gentrification out of sheer native stubbornness despite their shady bullying tactics.

So we're kind of stuck waiting for the previous generation to move, die, or finally retire before we can do anything. It's a shit situation.

He's from a gym that's very toxically masculine (@an-aura-about-you told me he's probably from a fighting type gym so I'm rolling with it) and he has a separate team of AWWW YEEEAHHH TESTOSTERONE mons but he just doesn't feel it at all and often loses, and in secret he has his Cute Baby Pokémon team with whom he connects (his favourite mons are all super adorable which is frowned upon in his gym i guess)

And so when he comes against Sophie eventually she kicks his manly mons' asses and they kinda agree for an unofficial rematch, where Tony finally uses the team of his babs and kicks Sophie's ass in turn

And she talks him into running away with her to kick asses together with the team he actually connects with

I LOVE the fact that the actual tumblr sexyman poll is going the way it is. I mean, I adore Reigen with my whole heart. And Sans is cool, funky little skeleton. But Cecil is a legend on ancient tumblr for a reason. WtNV was a phenomenon in 2012, and Cecil was insanely important to LGBT+ folks back then. His canonical love for Carlos that was treated like a normal thing. His...unique fashion sense. His appearance that could be anything. He's THE sexyman here, even more than the Onceler.

I hope he wins.

Plus, it's giving folks an excuse to listen to or catch up with WtNV, and that's always good.

Like, it's more rare to find a cop show that doesn't do that. I remember being floored when Columbo actually told a woman that she shouldn't talk to him without a lawyer.

Maybe I am just petty but bassically any fanwork that preludes with something like "Fuck canon" just really makes me don't want to interact with it. If I seek fan content of something is generally because I like it, and doesn't really invite me to check something if I know the author think is shit.

Honestly yeah. It's different if canon is a massive stretch of a universe with dozens of writers so the message is more "fuck this canon in particular" (I'm a Star Wars fan it's what we do), but shoving your way into a room just to announce you hate everyone there is just a dick move.

Well, it honestly depends on the canon, the fan work, and how you label it. Civility is key.

If the characters are spectacular, but the story around it is absolute garbo...yeah...fuck canon, it's in the way at this point. But, just label it a rewrite and declare your intent to do those characters justice.

If your favorite characters die and you want to ignore that or explore how character interactions change if a character that died...didn't. Well, that's not 'fuck canon' that's a fix fic or an au. Tag it as canon divergence and go wild.

If a sequel is awful to you, don't badmouth it. Just state that you're ignoring it in your fan works and move along.

Civility and proper tagging means everyone wins.

I swear to god when I was a kid the phrase “chocolate cake” was understood to mean yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Which by the way is actually the most delicious of all cakes.

Somehow “chocolate cake” came to be the term for an entirely chocolatey cake, which back in the day we called a “double chocolate” cake. When referring to just the cake and not the frosting, the chocolate kind was always “devil’s food.” Even all the modern search engines think a Double Chocolate cake is JUST a “chocolate cake.” WRONG AND TERRIBLE. “Chocolate donut” is still understood to mean the yellow donut with the chocolate frosting. The same should still be true for cake!!!! Also the double chocolate is good, but it’s not AS good. It’s just kind of too much chocolate at once. Yellow cake + chocolate frosting is good for the same reason classic chocolate chip cookies are good. More chocolate doesn’t automatically mean better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they’re called “Chocolate Juniors” because they are small CHOCOLATE CAKES.

Whatever you call them though, yellow with chocolate icing is also the default regular “cake.” The word “cake” refers to this kind first. If the first thing you picture is birthday cake, that’s weird!!! Silly!!!!

I think it's regional AND generational. In my rural Alabama town if you ask for a 'chocolate cake' you'll get yellow cake with chocolate frosting from the nice old ladies at the bakery.

But, if drive for half an hour and get a cake from the small city bakery, you'll get all chocolate from the younger ladies that moved from Vermont.

It's odd. So I just specify what I want.
