Everyone has their own idea of how they should look, what looks right, what doesn't. You should present yourself the way you want. Just make sure when you present yourself it's because you love it, not because you think others will. Remember, your reflection will only exist in your mirror, not the mirror of someone else.

I think it has to be said:

Most "followers of Christ" are not followers of Christ. They are followers of an altered concept of Christ.

If someone is a true follower of Christ and his teachings, they wouldn't quote scripture to weaponize it against people. A true follower would not just memorize the scripture, but learn it and know its meaning and its historical context. And in doing so they would know better than to use words from the bible to hate, mistreat, and judge others.

I hate seeing and hearing people hate the misrepresented version of my faith.

I'm so excited for the Illium musical!! Literally vibrating into another dimension with excitement!! Since Mr. Jalapeno has yet to give us anything beyond the name I can only make speculations such as: Where will it begin?

Will it start with the birth of Paris and the warning his mother received that he would be the fall of Troy? How he was snuck out of the castle to be raised by a shepherd?

Would it start with Cassandra's pleading to the people of Troy's dark future?

Would it start with the Discord throwing the golden apple? With Zeus making young Paris choose which goddess was the most beautiful? With Aphrodite's promise?

Will it start with Helen? With the competition of the suitors? With Odysseus' cunning and the pact that follows? How she chooses Menaleus to be her husband? (A Penelope/Odysseus first meeting cameo? 😏👀)

Would it start with how she was born? How she came to be conceived?

Would it start with Paris' and Helens first meeting? Her kidnapping/eloping?

Or would it start with the gathering of the suitors who had sworn the pact?

Or would it start just before the war itself??

SO MANY OPTIONS!! SO MANY STORIES!!!

Some people gotta understand the difference between, "I like this character as a person" and "I like this character as a character. "

For example: Snape from Harry Potter? HATE him as a person. He was blinded by past events and ghosts of dead bullies and pushed them onto a child who literally knew nothing. But as a character?? LOVE Snape! He's well written as a character that can't let go of the past and is drowned in grief years after the death of someone he loved. His character has so many layers and complexities that he's intriguing!!

Yet, it's a concept that I still struggle to understand. Or rather, I understand the idea behind it, but I just can't relate to the idea that we for some reason have to separate character and person.

Severus Snape is a character. He's written to be a character, he's written to serve a plot. He's not a person in the sense that he's not a living and breathing human being, he's words on a page and lines in the mouth of an actor wearing a wig.

The idea that we have to separate character from person, that we have to even add a disclaimer such as "oh I only like Snape as a character, not a person", is ridiculous. Not only that, but I almost exclusively see it said about "controversial" characters. Has anyone genuinely ever said "I don't like Umbridge as a person" ? Or said the same thing about Neville?

Of course not, for the horrible villains like Voldemort, Umbridge or Greyback, no one says it because it seems obvious. For the completely good characters like Neville or McGonagall, no one says it because it seems obvious. But for the ones that are in between, suddenly people fall over themselves to explain that "nonono, I only like Snape as a character, not as a person, ew yikes, I can see he's well written but ugh he sucks". So, you don't like him then, it's that simple.

Ron is a well written character, but I don't like him. So, I don't like him, as a character. I don't care about whether or not he's brave or loyal, or whether or not he's a "good person" in-world, what only matters in my enjoyment, as a reader, of his character. I don't particularly enjoy the scenes he's in, so I don't like him, there's no need to make it more complicated than that.

I see your perspective and I understand a few of your points, however, things are not so simply black and white. But I also see that I may have been misunderstood and caused you confusion.

You write your argument from a perspective as a reader, I made a statement from the perspective of not just a reader, but also a writer. I should have been more clear.

I enjoy taking the pieces of a character apart to examine; more pieces, more character depth, more enjoyment. (To be fair, the psychologist in me may also play a part in this.)

Human emotions are complex things. I dislike Snape as a "person" because if I were to meet him in person, I'd down right hate him. But he was made that way on purpose to elicit these exact emotions. Snape is a wonderful "character" because be has a purpose and he does it well!! Snape's role as a "character" and plot device crafted to push the main character (Harry) here and there for the plot is enjoyable. I cannot say I hate Snape in his entirety because it is more complex than that.

You may not understand this viewpoint I have, and you may not like it, but that does not invalidate my separation of "person" and "character."
